The Divide part of the problem seems to be gone, or I can’t reproduce it anymore.
The other part, with a skewed gradient is still kcicking.
See how the fill get reset when you apply Minus Front — it should stay the same, as the same part has when Divide is applied in this GIF.

You can go Object > Image Trace > Release.
But sure we need faster ways to do the same. Not sure that Esc key is a fitting option — this would be an easy way to lost settings I spent some time to set in the panel.
But what about a Release button in the panel, next to Trace one?

No, Craig, these settings are global and can’t be saved into a template, unfortunately.
And sadly they indeed revert to defaults every update.

I personally solve with a script by Oleg Krasnov I launch whenever I need to toggle units.
Once it is put into an action, you can launch it with a hit of the F-key.

Download it, rename to .jsx (UserVoice does not allow to attach JSX files directly, but allows text file), and comment back if it works for you. Edit the contents if you want to set different settings for grid and keyboard increments.

As for the shortcut — each major version gets put in its own signed folder (and some use several versions at once), and that’s why you have to update these. Neither OS or Illustrator itself can’t control shortcuts.

Yes, handles are second-class passengers in Illustrator :(
So far there are two methods I know to tweak a handle’s length without messing the angle of the other handle for a smooth point.
    1. Use the PathScribe tool from Astute Graphics plugin. Holding Opt/Alt will do exactly what you want. The plugin is paid, but their toolset is bombastic.
    2. Cut the path in this point, grab the one of two you need (this can be tricky), and then scale it — with the Scale tool and Smart Guides on, or with the Scale dialog. No plugins required.

Illustrator has two commands to fit artboards.

One of them, 'Fit to Selected Art', requires a selection — obviously.

The other one, 'Fit to Artwork Bounds' — does not, but works for the entire artwork.

You can insert the one that you need in an action, using the 'Insert menu item...' command from the Actions panel’s flyout menu, and assign a hotkey to the action.

However, I believe the request is not about a hotkey, but a way to let Illustrator to 'Fit to the contents of artboard' command? Please comment back to make it clear.

An indented solution to this would be to record three commands in an action.
    1. Select > All on Active Artboard (this one can be recorded directly)
    2. Object > Artboards > Fit to Selected Art (this one you have to insert using the 'Insert menu item...' command from the Actions panel’s flyout menu)
    3. Select > Deselect — optional, if you want to have nothing selected in the end
Assign this action to a hotkey and hit it every time you want you current artboard to shrink fit the art in it.

    Thomas, I don’t get it I think.
You mean that you want to run the Fit Artboard to Selection command when nothing is selected, so that the current artboard would fit to the artwork that is placed on it?

The intended way to ensure your pixel-sized document stays the same size after export is to use the default screen resolution — 72 PPI.

If you set anything else, Illustrator will scale the image  accordingly (as if the 'Resample' option in Photoshop is ticked when you resize an image).

There is no way to write a custom resolution AND maintain the desired size at the same time.

The reasoning behind this behaviour is that the resolution value is supposed irrelevant when an image’s intent is Screen or Web. An image can have no resolution value stored in it at all, it’s just an optional coefficient, and then different viewers and editors suppose a value on their own — usually 72 PPI (Mac-style) or 96 PPI (Windows-style).

Unlike other editors, Illustrator has a continuous range for all measurements units. One pixel is considered to be equal one point, and a point…

If you have problems with extra pixels being added to your images on export, you should refer to this bug report: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/37694659

Eric, Jared, you probably used 300ppi while exporting, instead of 72ppi. It gives you larger image size: 300/72=4.16(6), and 350×4.16(6)=1458.3(3) — rounded up it gives you your 1459.
So when exporting images for screens, use 72ppi.
    Does it solve your issue?

    Thanks, James!
    I can now confirm that.
Using the default settings (identical), the released version and the Beta/Prerelease produce drastically different results with the attached image.
    Compare two results files.

The same way we can hold Shift to be move an object only horizontally /vertically / diagonally, or rotate it to angles based on 45°, same should apply to moving characters with the Touch Type tool.
This can allow us to quickly fix kerning without using a field, interactively.
For now it Shift does not affect it :(

I think Illustrator is not smart yet to artistically place these in positions needed.
But using the isolation mode and two buttons in Pathfinder, it’s not that hard to do it manually. I suppose this is how you made it, didn’t you? ^_^
