Changing default units reverts back on relaunch / restart
I can't change the default units. When I change the unit in General from inches to Point. Illustrator reverts it back to the inches again when I restart the illustrator. This is super annoying. Please don't need to upgrade the feature of illustrator just fix the existing ones and give us a bug-free application.

No, Craig, these settings are global and can’t be saved into a template, unfortunately.
And sadly they indeed revert to defaults every update.I personally solve with a script by Oleg Krasnov I launch whenever I need to toggle units.
Once it is put into an action, you can launch it with a hit of the F-key.Download it, rename to .jsx (UserVoice does not allow to attach JSX files directly, but allows text file), and comment back if it works for you. Edit the contents if you want to set different settings for grid and keyboard increments.
As for the shortcut — each major version gets put in its own signed folder (and some use several versions at once), and that’s why you have to update these. Neither OS or Illustrator itself can’t control shortcuts.

Hi - we use Illustrator at school for students mainly for LASER cutting. Despite using a template we provide to students, it appears that the UNITS keep changing and are somewhat random! I am referring to "Edit, Preferences, Units". In Australia, we use "general = millimetres"; Stroke=millimeters"; and "Type=Points".
Theis does not appear to be saved in the TEMPLATE - where is this saved and why is it so random (literally random across 100 students with he same app build.
I have also noticed if often defaults back to USA based preferences every update! Can this be locked?
Another issue on the same line is that we cannot save a shortcut on the task bar, as every time you release an update the link is broken. This also applies to the location templates are stored. This si such an issue we are seriously thinking about not doing auto updates as it breaks everything we set up.

Units are reset after changing units in the latest version and exiting Illustrator. For example, after changing 'mm', when you quit and restart Illustrator, the initial value is changed to 'point'.

When changing UNITS in preferences from Pixels to Inches, the changes do not appear in the document set up. You have to launch the document, then go back in and reselect UNITS and change it to inches again (a second time). Note: The same PROBLEM exists in InDesign.
Also, I DO wish you would create a way to select WHICH style a user wants as a default so that it doesn't have to be reselected with each and every new document created. My personal default is inches. But every time I start something new, it is always in pixels until I change it. Unnecessary extra step.

When setting the Illustrator Preferences to Inches it will default back to Points after quitting Illustrator.

Preferences > Units : change from millimetres to pixels is not updated when re-launching Illustrator
This occurs more precisely with the 'General' item.
I'm using AI 2021 Beta Version. -

The workaround for this bug is to change the units in the "New Document" dialogue, then go back and change the Preferences > Units > General to Inches, then it will "stick". I wish they would fix this already.

Opening prefs...units... and changing from points to inches has no affect. Always reverts back to points. Quit app, relaunch change default to inches, quit app, relaunch...back to points. Change from points to inches, create new document, default is points.

Units refuse to display correctly.
Every time I open my document it defaults to millimetres and I work in pixels.
To remedy this I have to go into preferences, change to another unit type, quit prefs, relaunch prefs, choose pixels (my preference), close prefs. This is the only way I can get my preferred units to display as chosen and it's painful.
I notice below that this issue has persisted through versions with apparent fixes posted by Adobe staff.
It isn't fixed.

Changing units doesn't change anything.
Working in pixels but values show millimetres.
This BUG (not an idea) comes and goes with each iteration.
This is meant to be professional software—why are basic things like measurement and colour consistency so useless?!

Everytime I start Illustrator, the gerneral units reset from millimeter to points. Is there a way to stop this from happening? Thank you
