As far as I know, the only way to do the trick there is to use symbols, a pretty much the same thing Ai can do. I am not able to locate anything about 'linking' there specifically anywhere.
As for the 'pattern maker', do you mean the Pattern Options panel and the dedicated mode? What problems do you have with it and what bugs do you encounter?

Makes a lot of sense and I’d personally would love to have something like this. 'Prefer selected object' would be especially useful for Curvature tool, because now it gladly starts editing another path when you just want to place a new point over the existing unlocked path (which should be just fixed).
I use Ctrl+> to enter the isolation mode, and a custom hack via Autohotkey (Windows only) to be able to to exit one level back with a Ctrl+Backspace hotkey as well. I know the team is going to make it actually available. I am used to these, exactly because I want to edit stuff without a risk to spoil the other stuff, to be able to marquee with the Direct Selection tool. I’d also wish the stuff outside the mode was ignored by Smart Guides (if I choose to!), but’s that’s another request.
However, it seems unlikely to me another way of isolation, effectively the same, is going to be added :( But let’s see how much votes it gets! I add mine.

Or you need both pale und this new non-pale modes at the same time?

As it turned out, the font was installed as a static weights collection on one system, and as a variable one on the other. Illustrator didn’t provide enough clarification on this.
However, please vote and comment if you have the same problem.

So you say in Illustrator’s UI there is no difference between a static fonts and a variable one, right? No a slightest hint? Then I believe it is still a UX problem, because Ai knew that but failed to provide a clear enough signal about that.
Anyway, I am glad you sorted that out. I am closing the issue with your reply as a solution. I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 27.0.0 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

An error occurred while saving the comment Enisio, yeah, as far as I know, increasing the GDI handles limit in Windows 10 just does not work, at least for Illustrator. I saw people trying to raise it, for other purposes, but fail, as if tweaking registry does not work at all. Our conclusions means little, sadly, it’s up for the devs now to tackle :(
An error occurred while saving the comment KAsia, thanks for checking. Indeed, it’s the same problem that was fixed earlier, and now it resurfaced again :(
Illustrator draws its interface with GDI OS calls. When an element is not drawn anymore, it gets freed. I was told at some point Microsoft engineers made a change that broke that mechanism for Illustrator and the leakage started to happen... when the value hits 10000, no new elements can be drawn or updated, and this leads to a complete decay of the interface :( Perhaps this time there is another reason behind it.The team is now aware of the problem and investigates it.
So far the workaround is to check the value form time to time, and when the value comes close to something like 9000 — save and restart Ai :(
The other solution would be just downgrade until the next release. I struggled like this for a while last time...Thanks for reporting this.

An error occurred while saving the comment Next time when it glitches, do not close the app and please check this:
1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc)
2. Open 'Details' tab
3. Right click any column header there (like Name or Status, doesn’t matter)
4. Choose 'Select Columns'
5. Tick 'GDI objects'
6. When this new column pops up, click on it’s header to sort it descending (arrow down)
What is the largest number you see in that column? Is it something close to 10000? Is it Illustrator?Either way, please report back, it might be a known issue that the team hunts down.
Thank you for posting this and sorry for the inconvenience it causes. I know, I struggled from it too, way many more times I ever wanted.Also — what version are you using? This is important.

As stated in the article linked below, Pantone’s licensing with Adobe got changed.
Due to this change, customers will need to purchase Pantone Connect licenses to access Pantone colors in Adobe Creative Cloud products.

An error occurred while saving the comment Yeah... I have a guess the decision was driven by Pantone rather than Adobe. We all assume they wanted more revenue, since printing becomes less relevant and they can’t sell color books that efficiently as before.
Sadly, this request probably won’t mean much for them, even if we get a thousand votes :( But I personally can hope anyway. Perhaps the world will just find another way, Pantone-less. -

Ah, OK, you refer to iPad version of Ai, not a desktop one,
I moved it to the proper branch.
Symbols are not there yet at iPad, as stated here by the team: community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-on-the-ipad-discussions/can-i-create-symbols-on-the-ipad/td-p/11880625
