An error occurred while saving the comment Also Disable / Make / Release, please.
Last two can be wrapped in an action, but one-command actions are just bandages.

Hi Everyone,
We have fixed this bug in our latest release – v 24.2.1 which is available worldwide now. Thanks for your patience on this.
Please note that after upgrading you might still see that Align To sets itself to Align to Key Object. If you see this, please manually set the Align To to the required setting, and this reported bug will not happen again. You’ll need to this one time only.
The reason Align To might get set to Key Object after update is because Ai remembers your last Align To on subsequent launches as well. So, if your last Align To was Key Object before quitting/upgrading, after first multi-selection, it will set itself to Key Object. After you manually change it one-time, it will work fine.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
An error occurred while saving the comment If anyone is experiencing this problem with the latest release — please attach a video of it and describe the exact steps you perform to reproduce it.
An error occurred while saving the comment Great to hear it, Ted. I know how frustrating it was :) Did it work for you without manual switching once, or with?
An error occurred while saving the comment OK, Cory, thanks for the confirmation.
Please also try this — select objects, open Align panel, and manually change the 'Align To' mode to 'Artboard' and comment if it helps (it sounds stupid, I know, but it started working fine for me henceforth, when I changed it once). An error occurred while saving the comment Ted, it’s a known bug in 24.2, and it’s 99% fixed in the hotfix 24.2.1.
Please update and try if it is fixed for you.
If not — please open the Align panel, change the 'Align to' mode there manually to 'Artboard' and try again.
Please comment here if it helped, and if it worked immediately after you updated or required the manual mode switch. An error occurred while saving the comment Everybody who still has the bug in 24.2.1 — please share here videos or GIFs (you can use lightweight LICEcap to record these) of your particular case! This would help to track it and finally fix in full.
An error occurred while saving the comment Cory, it’s a known bug in 24.2, please update to 24.2.1
An error occurred while saving the comment Known bug with auto setting of key object.
99% fixed in 24.2.1
Please update and then manually once change the align mode with bottom-right drop-down menu in the Align panel to 'Align to Artboard'. This should most probably fix.An error occurred while saving the comment This is a fresh known bug that is hopefully going to be fixed to. This is related to 'Align To' mode autosets to 'Key object' now and a key object is chosen when not needed.
An error occurred while saving the comment Matt, this is a known fresh bug. It happens because key object mode now sticks after you used it once. Even there's is no such a thing as 'key artboard', this setting for an object interferes with aligning artboard. Thanks for pointing this out!
The workaround for now is this — exit Artboard tool, select two or more objects, open Align palette, change 'Align To' to Artboard manually, then try to align artboards. I understand it is tedious, but I hope it will be fixed very soon. -

An error occurred while saving the comment https://labs.adobe.com/projects/fantastic-fold/
As an external solution.
The problem is it does not work for me...

Does it for you?An error occurred while saving the comment I know what the Esko’s Studio can do :) And I know the price. This stuff is more expensive than anything I can remember of.
I wonder how many people use 3d in Photoshop... And I know replicating even a part of Esko’s toolkit is a huge endeavor. And I know there’s so much the team can do instead, stuff that not one third party would make instead.
So I would like to have it in Ai from the box, sure, but I would vote for other things instead.
Thank you for sharing your dream and desires though. An error occurred while saving the comment Ooph, this a is a major thing to ask. Have you tried Adobe’s Dimension?

An error occurred while saving the comment Very much yes.
There is a chance there might be a external plugin for that, but so far FontLab stays unchallenged here.
I wish for more demand in this field.

An error occurred while saving the comment Sorry again, but please specify the exact setting you use when you export the file — the resolution and the anti-aliasing (it seems like you don’t use it, correct?)
So far I can’t reproduce that line you are having.
An error occurred while saving the comment Can you share the file itself?

An error occurred while saving the comment Does not happen for me on Windows 10.
I set bleed at 3mm, rearrange all artboards with the spacing set to -6mm, to get artboards side to side, and then try to add a new artboard, using a + button in the Artboards panel — nothing critical happens, a new artboard is added. Can you replicate that problem.
Does it happen always for you?
Can you replicate it in a new document? -

Do you have Smart Guides turned on?
Just turn it off and Ai won’t snap handles to paths. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Stephen, there is a way to modify both handles at once, actually. Select a point and use Scale tool (S key) to scale both handles at once.
There is another method, to hold Alt with Pen tool and then dragging a new handles from any point, but you probably know of it.
Can you demonstrate some cases that need more that this?
(Yeah, I know a lot of time passed since your request)As for the second thing, keeping a length constant — interesting idea. Not sure if it suites the Direct selection tool well enough, but the Reshape can benefit from it for sure.

If yes — can you share one such a file to dissect? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Jessica, in the example you are describing, no new handles are generated when closing a path because the first point does not have a handle and is sharp originally.
However, when you close a path that starts with a smooth point (has a handle) — Ai tries to keep it smooth, that is to keep both handles at 180°.Why Ai considers a first point with a handle as a smooth?
It does it for all point with handles, unless they are changed intentionally to a sharp one, with Anchor Point tool / Convert to corner buttons / etc. It’s just a universal convention. Some applications like Affinity Designer follow it.
Some, like Corel Draw and Inkscape, ignore that, but don’t allow to close a path smoothly (!) — you have to fix it manually later.I prefer Ai’s way :) Holding Alt to break handles (it works not only when closing a path) is a simple workflow, and I can’t imagine not having it now.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks for the GIF!
To not change the original handle, hold Alt while closing the path — this should not convert the final point to a smooth one.
Please comment back if it works for you. -

An error occurred while saving the comment This is a GPU rendering issue.
A workaround is to disable it temporarily. -

An error occurred while saving the comment It feels like you had View > Show Edges accidentally turned off (Ctrl+H).
It can be useful sometimes, but yes, can lead to these exact problems you describe, if not intentional. -

Mesh points are not anchor points, but should operate fine.
Is this still an issue for you? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Ambrose, why don’t you change the Number Format in your spreadsheet before copying it? Both Excel and Google Sheets allow to reformat your values so that commas are not created.
I agree that Illustrator will benefit from having its own filter, but the workaround exists.

An error occurred while saving the comment I agree, happens all the time, the cursor must be placed inside of em-box to be able to select. And when you have 120% leading by default, you get this tiny strip of 'false trigger' area, you really wouldn’t need to create new area type object. If you increase leading, you would get even more of this space. I wonder if anyone creates new text overlapping the old?
An error occurred while saving the comment Nice report!
I also noticed this, but quickly got used to it.
It's sad some people suffer from new approach, but it was highly probable, as always is with dropping old behavior.
I would try both solutions simultaneously.
Seems to be fixed completely in new versions.
Does anybody have it still?
