An error occurred while saving the comment Indeed. Even with the FindReplace Art plugin panel and Select menu by Graffix I can’t find it possible to do without several steps. Select Same Appearance native command won’t work if weight and color differ...

An error occurred while saving the comment A copy of a path created only when you use Object > Path > Offset Path command.
If you use Effect > Path > Offset Path, the path is replaced, like your screenshot shows.
If you need to have it as an effect applied — open Appearance panel, duplicate the stroke, and apply the effect only to one of strokes.
If you need two actual paths — use Object menu instead.
Doe it work for you? -

An error occurred while saving the comment I remember a discussion about these quite long ago now: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/picture-clippings/m-p/10097180
I have no idea if it's Ai who stopped this, or MacOS... Do other apps still support picture clipping? -
Not constraining to 91 degrees & 136 degrees instead of 90 degrees & 135 degrees with shift

An error occurred while saving the comment Confirm the behavior with the file, but fail to reproduce it exactly from scratch using Word 2021.
Insert > Equation > Insert New Equation, LaTeX, pasting the code... it produces a formula, Cambria Math gets used, but R uses U+0052 instead of yours U+211d...
Still 'x' gets outline — even if I skip \forall (I suspected '\forall x' can force 'x' to get outlined...I lack experience with PDF encoding, so I can’t see the difference in streams that force this specific character outlined :(
As far as I’m aware Adobe never encourages editing PDFs in Ai. PDF in considered to be a final / exchange format... so I don’t expect Adobe PDF Maker would ever get a way to insert Ai’s native PGF section, just to let some of us to import this into Ai to edit — something Adobe clearly discourages.
When you say 'OK for me if the text parts are just not editable in Ai, but it is NOT OK that the outlined text parts become unselectable FOREVER' — well, outlined text is not live text anymore, so it is selectable (as object) but not editable (as text). That’s what 'outlining' text does...
I ran another experiment — I tried to import the PDF into Affinity Designer. The text IS editable (something you call 'selectable'), but the 'x' is doubled (with or without the 'Favor editable text over fidelity' option enabled).
Then, if I try to copy the contents of a formula from a PDF viewed in Acrobat and paste it in Illustrator, I get the same 'doubled x'.
So I assume the positioning of the 'x' Microsoft apps use somehow forces Ai to outline it to match it.I can’t make more experimentation without the original .docx provided (to try to export it into other formats with different settings), but I don’t think it’d matter much... this requires somebody more savvy than I to review.
An error occurred while saving the comment Just to notice — PDFs never get 'opened' in Ai, they are always 'imported'. The only exclusion of the rule is a PDF generated by Ai itself, with the 'Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities', which inserts the copy of the document in the native format along with the PDF copy.
For any other case — Illustrator is not a general PDF editor and never promised to keep all text in all PDFs editable when imported. The request is clear enough though, thanks for reporting this.
If possible, share the PDF generated by MS Word, please -

The latest Beta build 29.6 180 now does this as expected — newly created artboards track their number and reuse the global counter for artboards, just like Layers panel does.
There is a request to update the names for existing artboards — please upvote it.
An error occurred while saving the comment Suddenly stopped working for me in this build... Anyone confirms?

Which sequence to read for sorting: from left to right and to the next row, or from top to bottom and to the next column. Plus if two artboards are on top of each other and other non-obvious cases.

An error occurred while saving the comment Found this, tried to reproduce.
If Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow is called directly when recording an action with nothing selected — it won’t get recorded, Ai sees it as a change of the default settings for the effect (within the current session) and not the actual application of it.
If Insert Menu Item command from the Actions panel’s flyout menu is used when recording the action — it will record calling it, but won’t record the values used.So perhaps using graphic styles could be a better way. But then again, it’d require sharing the local library of styles.
There is another method — actions allow to paste a stored object on canvas... so, creating a dummy one with the proper shadow, adding it as a graphic style, restoring it with the action (to get its style added), removing it from the canvas, and then applying the style that is remaining in the Graphic Styles with the action... that’s a lot :) -

Today artboards have only a tiny 1px border, black for the active one and gray for others.
If you wish to be able to customize these — upvote this request, please: Allow to change color & width of border / edges for artboards (all and active)

An error occurred while saving the comment It is the only thing basically that tells an artboard from a shape.
Do not remove it. Make it more prominent.
Even better — add a variable in the Prefs file for users to control it.
Some will set 0px, some 5px. -

An error occurred while saving the comment A beautiful demo by Monika Gause on the topic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=romoq5s-Z3kSelect two groups, make a compound path, apply a stroke, try to expand the stroke — won’t work.
Ai is not smart to remove the groups (but is doing this with a singular group). An error occurred while saving the comment Yep, it should.
By the way, Mark. This rather small entry seems to be a copy of a larger general cry I made in 2020: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/41110042
Would you mind me merging these? An error occurred while saving the comment Here is another discussion of the problem:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/19458141/illustrator-grouped-objects-inside-of-a-compound-pathAn error occurred while saving the comment Leads to problems like this https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/44390481
An error occurred while saving the comment Dawn, indeed! Illustrator refuses to expand the stroke in the skyline object. This should be studied and fixed.
However, there are workarounds.
You still can use Object > Flatten Transparency to make it expanded.
The other option is to locate the object in Layers panel and study the object itself — you’ll see that it is a group that has several groups inside that have two duplicates of the same compound path at the bottom level. Once you ungroup all several times and release a compound path (Object > Compound Path > Release), you'll get yet another group, inside of this compound path! Ungroup it, make compound path again (Object > Compound Path > Make) — and finally you will be able to expand the stroke.
See, Illustrator allows to have groups inside of a compound path, and this leads to this and other problems. There is a bug report about it, please vote — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/41110042-groups-inside-compound-pathsAnd the third option would be using Offset Path instead of stroke to be expanded and that substracted with the Shape Builder. It still requires a cleaner objects, but saves two steps in the process.
Thanks for reporting the issue!

An error occurred while saving the comment I also offered AstuteGraphics to solve this problem with their VectorFisrtAid plugin, and they did it in A DAY.
Now it would be able to detect groups inside compound paths and fix them.
It does not mean that Illustrator team should not fix it, on the contrary.
Please vote for this, if you are agree.

Interesting... If it was Windows, I’d assumed it’s something off with file associations...
