An error occurred while saving the comment Ella, can you please select the object, open the Layers panels, click the Locate Object button at the bottom of it (the 'mag' one) and check what’s happening? Can you record this on video, with the panel visible, please?
Can you reproduce it in another file, or in a new file altogether? -

A new request has been made based on the discussion, A simpler way to populate Color Guide panel with tints and shades of currently selected artwork’s colors
An error occurred while saving the comment Yeah, I agree, a better way of removing a chosen rule (perhaps an item in the list, or an option in the panel’s menu) would be nice to have. Recolor is a very convoluted dialog, and the things it allows to do are convoluted enough to keep digging after years of using Ai. Poorly hinted, rather alien...
The sad thing is that the helpx says nothing about it, really.
Would you like to convert this report into a request about this maybe? (I know this sounds like an LLM would say!)As for the bug with the gray colors (I know you upvoted it, but here’s the link for the reference: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/51575720) — I’ll notify the team about this. thank you.
An error occurred while saving the comment I’d say this is an intended behavior, as is explained in this tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKpuHjb53ZI
The Color Guide when Recolor is used would reset the chosen harmony rule in the dropdown list and assume your selected colors as a base for the generated shades and tints, assigning it to be the active color group (even if it was not saved as a swatch group within the Recolor dialog). Actually, it’s the only way I know of resetting the chosen rule to the 'my artwork is a base'.Why do you think it’s wrong?

An error occurred while saving the comment A related request about the limited support for Gradients in scripting:
Control the angle, length of gradients and other
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/908050/suggestions/47572073An error occurred while saving the comment Yes, this command is missing in Ai.
I know that the Gradiator plugin panel allows it: https://docs.astutegraphics.com/subscribe/gradiator/gradiator-panel#length,-angle,-fit-and-aspect-ratio-specifications
Plus I’m sure a script existed for the same purpose... could not find one, so I prompted one carefully, working around some known limitations. The solution is not perfect but can suite you: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ypavekwzvyk7hgnup1cx8/Set-Gradient-Angle.jsx?rlkey=pa2h97wl8z0mrshn07dwaw65q&dl=1
Feel free to modify and perfect it and share changes.

An error occurred while saving the comment Kory, so it’s less like the Magnetic Lasso in Ps, but more like Shape Builder — drag over the objects to select them?

An error occurred while saving the comment You say 'draw' with the lasso?
What do you mean exactly? Something like this?
https://twitter.com/ebanchiki/status/1280425510804295681Lasso is generally a selection tool, and having it in Illustrator would be a nice addition for some complex selection cases, but I suppose you meant something else. Please explain it more.

An error occurred while saving the comment Ah, got it. Fixed the mentions in the original report.
Please email the files, so the team can review it.An error occurred while saving the comment Angelo, does anyone confirmed this in anything more recent than v26, like 30.7? It could have been fixed since then.
Anyway, thanks — the team would require the files (including the font files) that you can verify on your side are having the bug. Ideally, clear steps would be needed the team could follow to make it happen and start the investigation. It’s hard to test anything without the files on hands.
Please package it and email to sharewithai@adobe.com (and please also mention the link to this report so they can track it back here, https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/51576482) -

An error occurred while saving the comment Fab, I see exactly what is happening in the GIF shared in the discussion you shared. Nobody guessed it, sadly...
Here’s a simple demo.
1. A beige object was clearly selected in the artwork.
2. Draw inside mode was enabled for this object
3. Another objects gets selected — but the focused object is still the beige one! It has the dashed brackets. Simply selecting another object won’t move the focus from the it.
4. So, with this new green object only selected, not focused, the change of color obviously get applied to the object. Everything drawn inside gets put inside of the beige object. So what should have been done instead is:
1. double-clicking the canvas to end the mode,
2. selecting the green object;
3. enabling the mode again. An error occurred while saving the comment Hey, finally someone requested this! I forbade myself to do it.
Currently we can use Draw Inside mode:
1. Select the object to be clipped
2. Cut it
3. Select the object to be the mask
4. Press Shift + D twice (or click the tiny button at the bottom of the toolbar once) — dashed brackets appear to mark the mode
5. Paste in Place
This keeps the appearance of both paths... as well as Ai now allows. There is an array of related requests and reports here at UV to make the clipping experience better. I post it here for others to crawl.
- Draw Inside method — many prefer it to original clip commands, because it doesn’t require the specific order: you cut a thing you need to clip, select the clipping-to-be path, change the Draw method and Paste (in Front / Back / in Place).
- Draw Inside doesn’t work when a clipping group is selected, requires to select its clipping mask specifically — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/49065740- Compound shape trick
- Clipping compound shape doesn't have edges drawn — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/45269581
- Draw Inside won’t work with live compound shapes — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/49064681- Respect appearances — while Draw Inside method keeps the appearance of the clipping-to-be path, original clip commands don’t. And we need the control.
- Allow clipping paths to have complex appearances — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/45088255
- Please allow us to apply proper strokes to clip groups: centered, inside, outside — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/36674830
- Add an option to preserve the color of the Clipping Mask when creating a Clipping Mask — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/51567620 — this very request this is posted in- Clip with top path / clip into bottom path methods
- Scripts — https://github.com/nimbling/Nimbling_Scripts#clip-scripts, by Herman van Boeijen
- A separate Add Clipping Mask Feature Similar to Corel Draw's Powerclip — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48659723, that most likely is about the 'pick the clip' method, used by Ai’s recent Objects on Path (BTW, Corel’s take on this is superior)- Allow selecting a clipping mask by its fill — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31558588
- Compound path trick
- Pathfinder Crop problem
- Select children in isolation problem
- Order problem: Illustrator pulls clippings masks to the top of their clip groups when a document is reopened — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/48267722- Treat groups as a result of Unite and not Intersect when using as a clipping mask — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49178642 — Affinity (Designer) started with this method from the start. I bet it’s connected to layer-level clips...
- By the way, Edit Contents button in Control panel ignores the scope and always prefers the layer-level clip to the selected object-level clip — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/49183784
- Make option to generate compound paths instead of groups when text is outlined — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49178642

- Don't remove stroke and fill for clipping paths — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/36749056
- Clip to key object — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48886391- Make clipping process easier, more like in Photoshop and Affinity Designer — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/39203035 — container VS foundation
- Paste into selected object — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/40862908 — actually means 'paste and clip'
- Non-destructive clipping mask options — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49119035 — read as 'use appearance to clip, not path'
- Drag into an object in Layers
- Masks should be applied to single objects with a simple right click — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/35670199 — read as 'clip all above into this'- Split & Bake
- Expanding Compound Clip Mask into individual paths for production — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/33839062 (scripts exist)
- Flatten / expand clipping group, crop each object in it to the clipping path — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/35456389- Bounds: clipped content VS clipping object
- Respect clip groups in pattern brushes — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/46649164

An error occurred while saving the comment Yep, more reports is another way, but in a way this makes more bloat.
We agreed bloat is bad for the app, so I don’t think bloat is good for the data that intends to make the tool better :)
But I respect your point anyway, and I can totally agree with the approach. In some cases more entry points can help to attract more people and create enough noise and pressure. And that’s the goal.
And I’m surely agree on the huge tech and UX debt.An error occurred while saving the comment Speaking of Pencil — have you tried to actually draw with it? Double-click the tool icon to open the tool options dialog?
I’m with you about the customization and less bloat.
The way I personally treat requests and reports is to have less copies, because it makes less fragmentation and thus makes vote count more concentrated. Their inception dates matter little — some of the QOL things Ai recently got (the small things most of us care about) were requested 9 years ago or earlier, before UV. What matters I think is that when the team gets bandwidth to pick one up, it’s heavy enough to persuade those who decide to pick one up, and a solid story is there for them to agree it matters. Plus it’s important to see if the flow of votes, something that is visible from the inside.
That’s why I merge (and split occasionally), correct titles, add details, comments, cross-link...Here’s 2 more:
— Centralized Notification History: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49849377 (not solved with the hub they made at all)
— Warnings Popup Manager: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/40666039An error occurred while saving the comment There are two related requests:
1. A more general Deactivate unused functions / tools / filters / plugins — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/32612413
2. A more dedicated An ability to disable all generative tools and options, like Text to Vector Graphic, Generative Pattern... — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47462738
I think yours apply to both, really. The blue dot problem (Ai requires us to use a tool or a command or a function that has it to make it go away) is a separate problem I don’t recall anyone reporting, however a single report it being stuck exists: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/50453091 — is it the same problem? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Kai, can you share an example? I discover these usually with smaller paths. It’d help to persuade the team to fix it sooner if they see what impact it has on us in other cases.
An error occurred while saving the comment Alas, no news so far. The only workaround we have right now is to add an extra point :(
An error occurred while saving the comment @Kai, please attach the original document into a comment. It seems like UV prevented it from getting attached to the report itself.

Please record this behavior on video.
Does it render as moved when you try and jumps back when you release the mouse button / finger? or does it just refuse to be dragged?
Does it behave the same when you drag by the fill, or by the contour, or by the middle?
Does it get dragged if you disable the bounding box (Cmd9+Shift+B)?
Does it happen in any doc?
