This is how it looks on my display every day (5120 x 2880 px). My windows are way down at the bottom -- after scrolling to even get there! I do not like to use the tabbed interface because I move items between windows frequently and the full screen app background makes that very awkward to use windows from other apps.
Also, to be fair, this is the default location for open windows in all Mac apps, as far as I know. It's only an issue because there are so many palettes/windows now available in the app. that the open documents end up where they do.

It is quite difficult to see which Artboard is the active one... (it is #3 in this screenshot in case you can't pick it up.)
Maybe add a little color, or thicken the line?
