The latest Beta Build 29.3.0.2 now offers a way to calculate the area, using the existing Measure Tool.
- Select the Measure Tool from the Toolbar.
- Click on a closed path to calculate its area (for now it has to have a fill, so the area is actually ink coverage)
- The calculated area will be displayed in the Info panel, shown automatically.
- To calculate the total area of multiple paths, hold Shift and click.
- Configure measurement options by accessing the flyout menu of the panel. You can customize units, precision, and scale to suit your requirements.
The team is looking forward to hear the feedback on this new feature — please try it out and make comments.

The solution is pushed into Global Availability build 28.6.
PDF is now available as type in File > Export > Export As dialog.
However, File > Adobe PDF Presets menu, similar to one InDesign has, to allow even quicker export, is absent still.
If you want to have it, please upvote this new request here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48670088

The team has encountered several issues with this feature. It requires them to change the basic algorithms and it is going to take them more time than anticipated.
While it still works in Beta 28.8.0.7, the next Beta build will have Inside/Outside aligned strokes for open paths disabled. The Beta is scheduled to be live on 7th of August.
Once this is ready to be enabled back, the team will update the status.

If you are talking about this ridiculous, postage stamp-sized dialog with 4 poor handles at each corners of the selected objects... then there's more to request here! This VERY BASIC transformation operation should be extremely refined for all the years of development Adobe has had with AI!
Like:
- make a proper, resizeable window
- make its contents a real preview
- make the positions of each of the 4 handles numerically controlable
- put a switch allowing to choose whether the objects should be transformed after rules of conic perspective (where scale diminishes with "distance") or after affine transformation (no depth-to-scale relation)
