Units Menu added to the Artboard Menu
Why can't the Units menu be added to the Artboard menu? This would be such a time saver not to have to go into 2 different menu's just to change a document's Artboard from points to inches! Can you add this to the next update please!?

let me interact with the artboard while having appearance-effect dialogues open
As soon as a dialogue from the effects panel is open (e.g. 3D extrude & bevel or drop shadow, etc. ...) I cannot interact with my artwork anymore as the dialogue box hogs the focus. This is really annoying as you often want to adjust the size or position of your object when editing the effects to better see if everything meshes well together

Scrollable Panels and Tools
I want to be able to scroll panel and tool windows.
Panels:
I want to keep my most-used panels open in a scrollable sidebar rather than having to expand and collapse them. Generally speaking, expanding a tool collapses another. This leads to unnecessary clicks and movement. Unless I choose to collapse a panel, it should remain open — respect my intention! I expect panels to remain in the same place I left them, not shift up or down according to which panel was opened last.Tools:
On a small screen, the single-column toolbar gets cut off by the application frame,…5 votes -
Workspace remembers settings in floating windows
Having the ability to set parameters in floating windows would speed things up enormously. Setting a workspace for Arabic text, another for Western text – and being able to freely switch between them. Setting a workspace for a particular client, with their typefaces and brand colours already set in the palettes. Instead, every job requires a minute or so setting up the workspace before work can commence. CRM:02211000001504

Full Window Crosshairs (always on option)
I would like to see an option for full window crosshairs/X&Y guides always intersecting at the cursor point. It is difficult to explain but I have attached a mock up image. This would act similar to the guides when dragging and aligning objects.

Customize Transparency Grid Size and Color...
It would be nice to customize the transparency grid's color and relative size.
11 votesIt is possible to do in Illustrator as well — not in Preferences, but in File > Document Setup dialog (Cmd/Ctrl + Alt +P) — because these settings are local for a document and not global. Same exact controls.

Refine (not revert to previous) zoom to selection
Now, 'Zoom to selection' zoom AND centers.
I think that zoom to selection should not center at all by default (and, of course, there should be an option to add centering to zoom). The selected art should stay where it is located in view, until zoom level is big enough so object will go outside current view — only then AI should move view to fit the art.
And there should be a tick 'Only for zooming in'.

Right-click Contextual menu with Layers panel (same as in Photoshop)
Wouldn’t it be nice if Illustrator had a similar contextual menu as in Photoshop?
It would be much easier to e.g. duplicate a layer, using right-click, than via tiny-hard-to-point-at hamburger menu at the layer palette.

Touch bar customisation with actions
It would be awesome if illustrator CC could have touch bar customization with actions. I already use some of the build in touch bar buttons, and I though it would be awesome to have the option to add actions to the touch bar. For example, having like a little actions folder on the left or the right side of the touch bar that when open, will show all of the actions and other folders inside. Then you could just tap on the touch bar to trigger an action. I know that you can already set actions to trigger on function…

Touch Workspace Eraser
Drawing in the touch workspace is not usable without an eraser. A Simple undo is not enough. Try to undo something you drew 5 minutes ago without undoing the stuff you like and you'll see what I mean.

Option to permanently expand areas of the Properties panel
I have a lot of empty space in the new Properties panel.
Having to click the '...' every time I want to access extra options seems clunky when I have so much unused space.
In the old interface you could double-click on the top bar of a panel and it would expand to your preference and remember that expansion.
A similar option here would be welcome.25 votes -
Make rulers bigger in with larger UI scales
I know Illustrator has the 'For High PPI Displays . . .' option for higher scale factors but, that is reliant on the OS custom graphic scaling.
1 - Either allow for custom/pre-set ruler size or
2 - Make it like Photoshop.27 votes -
Have a search bar at the top that searches all menu items.
Ok, the Adobe menus have a LOT of menu items and features. You guys should create a search bar that searches all the menu items and features to make it easier to find things.
Microsoft has this feature in it's Office Suite and it is SUPER useful.
For example have a bar that asks the user "What are you looking for" They can type anything, for example "Alignment" and it would bring up the alignment menu. Or "pathfinder" will bring up a button for the pathfinder menu.
Think about it guys, would save EVERYONE who isn't a pro SO much…
47 votesThe latest 2022 release has the Discover window that you can quickly call using F1 by default, which searches most if the commands available.
Have you tried it? Please tell us how it differs from what you expect from the global search you have in mind? What is missing or can be improved? -
Can't access the document directly after double clicking on the file and it gets stucked on the "recent cc files" page.
even tried to double click on the document after the ai screen pops up with the recent cc files page, but still can't access them. same goes to the create new and open buttons.

Ability to search functions
For example, in rhino I can type all the functions without having to search through the menus with my mouse
2 votesIn latest version of Illustrator you can access Discover panel by hitting F1 or via Help menu.
This new window allows you to search within tools, commands, tutorials, etc. — but no commands form other panels’ menus, or scripts, or actions.
If you need this functionality, or have any other comments regarding this panel — please do it here or in a separate request.

Dedicted buttons for: Undo - Delete - Redo.
Dedicted buttons for Undo /Delete /Redo. either at the top or on a floating toolbar. I'm sick of having to go to the keyboard or:
Edit > Undo
Edit > Clear
Edit > Redo
Sure I could use keyboard shortcuts- but I don't want to.
Virtually every other program has these buttons.
it cannot be hard to add them, even if only in that new properties panel.
You have to assume its bloody mindedness on Adobes part, continuing not have this basic feature and thinking everyone gets a thrill out of Command Z30 votes -
Show reference point locator in Scale/Rotate/Shear/Reflect tool dialogue
I wonder, why 'Transform each' has one, while normal transform tools haven't. This would be so useful!

Reversing order of objects
Sometimes it's useful to change order of selected objects, making bottom-most go topmost and vice versa.
I understand possible complications — what would AI do when selected objects have other unselected objects between them (meaning order)?
For example, I have these objects in Layers:
A
1
B
C
2
3
I select 1,2,3 and do proposed 'Reverse order' command.
I expect order to become this:
A
3
B
C
2
1
I see two fitting places for this command: Layers palette menu or Object > Arrange
It's scriptable, but I would like to have it by default.22 votes -

Percentage rulers
Photoshop has Percentage as a unit for its ruler, and I find it very useful when one needs to center an element, or drag a guide in the middle or the third of the image, especially as one can stick to the ruler marks.
I always wondered why Illustrator did not have that functionality.
