1. Invert blending mode

   You have Normal, Multiply and Screen, but there is no simple Invert blending transparency mode for layers or objects.
   I've seen it in other vector based programs and would love to see it in Ai (and Ps).

   eg
   When a black ring (set to INVERT) overlap a solid black circle, the portion of the ring that overlaps would turn white.

   eg
   When a Blue Circle overlapped a Yellow Circle, the boolean area would turn green.

   This was VERY popular years ago in design, both in the 1930s and again in the 1980s in early graphics software, but it seems to have vanished. I would LOVE this basic design technique returned!

   Note: "Difference" seems to make a brown instead of a exact 100% inversion — black would turn white, and white to black. An EXACT opposite color result.

3. Support SVG property 'paint-order'

   Add support for the paint-order property. By default the fill is painted and then the stroke is placed on top. The paint-order property allows this order to be defined so the stroke can be placed under the fill. Without support for this a svg can look very different than the imported version in illustrator.

4. Hello!

   When right-click > Rotate, It would be very handly to have the angle field already selected to just insert the value, or to have it selected when you press Tab first time (now you need to press Tab 4 times in order to have the value field selected).

   That would be great. Thank you!

5. Auto number layers

   As a graphic designer I often work with Illustrator files that have thousands of layers, these layers are very well organized in folders.
   I would like to suggest that Illustrator add a function allowing users like me to auto number every layer. The layer number would be visible on each layer. This would let me quickly identify a layer with a specific number and then return to that layer later if I want to read manipulate the artwork there.
   It would also be great if I could, i.e. right click layer XXX and asked to move it above or below layer XXX without having to drag it or copy/paste it. Functions like these would speed up the design process for designers like me that work with in big files =)

6. 'Load Paragraph styles' does not work as expected

   In InDesign, if you 'Load Paragraph styles', any Paragraph styles with the same names get updated, and any text that has those paragraph styles applied change appearance.

   In Illustrator, this doesn't happen. It ignores the imported styles as it already has styles of that name. There is no 'import options' to able to change this behaviour.

7. Editable path smoothing for pencil and brush paths

   I'm proposing smoothing that may be applied or removed after a path has been created with the pencil or brush tool by the user. When a path is being created, the program would capture necessary coordinate information and the path would be represented on screen as drawn, or with a certain amount of smoothing (set prior to drawing in tool panel). If the user wanted more or less smoothing applied after creating the path, the amount could be adjusted by selecting the path and changing the amount applied. If the path would no longer need adjusting, it could be expanded to save potential file size.

8. Feature Tours and Tips pop up windows keep showing up even after selecting "Skip Tours"

9. Make the eyedropper appear with the Brush / Blob Brush tool selected by holding the Alt / Option key

   With the Brush or Blob Brush tool selected, make the Eyedropper appear by holding down the Opt / Alt key. This would allow colors within the document to be sampled just like in Photoshop, without having to keep selecting from the swatches.

10. file>export>export as... still lists Flash as an option

    How long ago was Flash rebranded to Animate? Five years now?

    The "Flash (SWF)" option in the Export As... dialogue should be "Animate (SWF)".

11. Measurements are not working correctly

    If you want to make a new path with 100mm x 100 mm in dimensions and and do that via the transform palette then the path shows an incorrect size (100,013 mm x 100,009 mm) but only if the path has an outline. If there is just a colour filling then the measurement is correct.
    That should be corrected quickly.

    There's an option 'Used Preview Bounds' for that in Preferences, which toggles the behavior. When it’s on, Illustrator includes stroke weight into dimensions, and does not when it’s off.

12. Hue bar in Recolor artwork needs to come back

    The older feature of 'Hue Bar' in the Recolor artwork was a really helpful tool
    this makes the color fixing and decision of color combinations so easier, please bring back this Hue bar.

13. Improve page selection when opening PDFs in Illustrator

    Referring to the attached screenshot for opening PDFs in Illustrator:
    I find that I am constantly browsing through the preview pages using (B), and hitting 'Open' when I see the previewed page I want -- completely forgetting to actually enter the page number in the Range (C), and thereby opening Page 1, swearing, and starting again. Casual survey suggests this is a common issue for others in my studio as well.
    It would be great if changing the previewed page using B also updated the page number selected in C; or, if an additional radio button sitting with C and D could allow you to select and open 'Previewed Page'. This would make it more consistent with page selection for eg placing a PDF in InDesign using the 'Import Options' dialogue.

    The solution is pushed into Global Availability build 28.6.

    The Previewed Page is now the default option for the dialog.

14. Add dividers/separators to custom tools panel (or enable stacking/docking them vertically)

    It would be nice to be able to visually separate tool groups in custom toolbars since there is no way to stack them vertically. Think "groups" in Microsoft Office apps' "ribbon". We can currently only...

    A) Mash all of our tools into one toolbar, with no means of visual organization apart from the order in which they appear (I don't count stacking the tools as "visual organization", since I cannot see them).

    B) Snap multiple toolbars together, but not while docked to edge of UI. They will not be movable together like this, and other UI elements can overlap them. Far from ideal.

    C) Dock the toolbars together horizontally. This is a massively inefficient use of screen space.

    P.S.: This is more of a peeve than anything, why do toolbars occupy all vertical space even when there are no tools there? We're going back to smaller screens now, with touch interfaces, so being able to utilize screen real estate is crucial.

    Actually, someone submitted a request for this already titled "Unable to Resize Tool Panels (verticle axis)". It started to receive votes and the mods (groan) closed it since it was worded sort of like a bug report, and mistaken for one. Sorry, but this is why you don't outsource your online presence to non-native-English-speakers. It makes you a punchline.:

15. Please make the Preview option sticky

    Just about everything you do in Illustrator to the drawing cannot be seen until you turn on Preview. Unfortunately the Preview option cannot be set to ON or Sticky from last use. I am aware that way back in the 80s this was done because the computing power was not strong enough to deal with drop shadows but this is now not the case. I am also aware that very very complex drawings can also be affected by having the Preview on but I very seldom do complex drawings. PERHAPS there could be some kind of self-sensing regulator that when the delay of display reached a certain level, a popup window would show up suggesting to the user that they should turn off Preview. But it would still be the user's choice. However, as it is I'm always checking and re-checking and re-checking that Preview box and that hinders my creative juices and makes working with Illustrator not as fun as it should be.

    Hi Everyone,

    All the effect checkboxes have now been set to ON by default, and are sticky (meaning that if you disable preview, on next launch of Illustrator preview will remain disabled). This functionality now is available in our latest release build – 24.1.1 for Win and 24.1 for Mac which is available worldwide now.

    We are working on making all remaining preview check-boxes sticky. Will update this thread when done!

17. Smooth animated zoom not working in Overprint or Outline Preview modes

    When Overprint preview is off, magnify is from center point, and when Overprint preview is on, magnify is a area box. WTH?!

18. Export for Screens: Option to include file- and artboard-name automatically.

    Ok the "Export for Screen" option is kind of nice, however it takes far too long to set everything up....

    1. The areas to type in are far too small.
    2. Automation is week a. where can define that all images will get the file name of the original *.AI file. b. why does it keep the old folder location? Set an option to export is where the original *.AI-file is located. c. Where are some presets? Wouldn't it be awesome to have some user-defined presets? It would be.

    4. There are to many clicks, like when I want to change the transparency of an *.png-file: 1st click -> seetings 2nd-click -> choosing png 3rd-click -> Background color 4th-click -> Transparent 5th-click -> Save Settings That are 4 clicks too much.

19. レイヤの表示状態を保存するカスタム表示の機能向上

    カスタム表示を一度設定したあとに、レイヤを追加したり分けたりすることが多々あります。その都度、一度「表示の編集」から削除して「新規表示」に追加しなければならず、手間がかかります。AutoCADにも同じようにレイヤの表示状態を保存する機能がありますが、あちらは一度設定したあとでも表示状態を変更して同名で保存すれば上書きができますし、名前をつけた設定ごとに表示状態の編集もできます。大変便利です。
    ここまで出来なくとも良いので、せめて同名で保存した場合の上書き機能を付けてほしいです。
