1. The transparent areas of (point) text boxes should not be selectable.

   It is difficult / impossible to select any object below any portion of a (point type) text box, even when the area under the cursor is completely empty / transparent. In the attached screenshot examples, the pink line is not selectable because it is covered by a text box, even when there are no active pixels or vector data under the cursor within the text area. No other objects in Illustrator behave this way. Transparency is supposed to be non selectable. Illustrator treats the entire text box as an object with a fill, even though text boxes completely lack a fill attribute. This is especially frustrating since a text box is necessarily bigger than the physical bounds of the actual visible characters.

   I would like to suggest a change to the type settings to introduce a check box for 'type selectable by character only.' The current setting of 'type selectable by path only' is practically unusable since it refers not to the character paths, but to the baseline, which is effectably an imaginary and invisible line which isn't actually a path anyways. While it's true that live type doesn't have paths until its expanded, it seems apparent that the software knows where the paths theoretically are since all live type is visible in outline mode.

   This simple update to the type setting would give users two clear options to choose from: type is either selectable by the entire text frame ~or~ is selectable only by the outlines of the text.

2. Add an option to preserve the color of the Clipping Mask when creating a Clipping Mask

   I would like the "Object > Clipping Mask" menu to have two options:

   1 - "Make transparent Clipping Mask" (keeps current behavior)
   2 - "Make Mask (preserve color)" : Makes a clipping mask but doesn't strip the color of the object used as a mask.

   I create a lot of illustrations where I use dark shapes for colouring inside and shading, and then clip the shadow's bleed outside the shapes with a clipping mask - it doesn't mean I need the object's color removed.

3. Managing Plug-ins

   Isn't it about time Adobe offered a better solution to enabling and disabling plug-ins? A simple list with enable and disable option would suffice. It would really make debugging a lot quicker. Especially in Illustrator.

4. Give the choice to change the export resolution with or without changing the number of pixels.

   When exporting as an image llustrator will always change the pixel amount when you set a resolution higher or lower than 72 ppi. Photoshop has an option that is missing in Illustrator, the option to check/uncheck “Resample” when changing the resolution. When Unchecked only the ppi metatadata is changed and the pixel amount stays the same. When checked Photoshop behaves like Illustrator does and changes the amount of pixels when the resolution is changed. It would be a welcome addition to have this choice in Illustrator.

5. Random image being added while editing a text box

   I'm using Illustrator and a random image is added while I'm editing text. It deselects the item I'm editing and creates an image out of nowhere.

6. When using direct select tool to adjust anchor points and handles, keep all anchor points and handles visible

   When using direct select tool to adjust anchor points and handles, please keep ALL anchor points and handles visible, as opposed to everything disappearing but the point/handle you are working with. It is impossible and frustrating to try to join/snap to anchor points, or adjust points or handles relative to other points or handles when you can’t see them!. Thank you!

7. macOS makes relinking missing links harder

   On Windows, when opening a file with missing linked images, the user can simply select the target folder in the file dialog and click the active Replace button. The system automatically locates the first missing image by name within that folder. (See: windows-missing-links.mp4)

   On macOS, however, the behavior differs significantly: after selecting the folder, the Replace button remains inactive. The user is then forced to manually locate and select the exact file by name from within the folder in order to activate the button — an unnecessary extra click.

   This becomes a major productivity bottleneck in projects with dozens of missing links, especially when folder contents include numerous image files with alphanumeric names. macOS users must spend considerable time visually scanning and matching filenames from the dialog header.    For comparison, even basic third-party scripts handle this far more efficiently: you select a folder, and the script automatically updates all links by matching filenames — without requiring explicit file selection on macOS. (See: script-missing-links.jpg)

8. Line Cut Tool for Adobe Illustrator

   I would like to suggest a new tool for Adobe Illustrator called “Line Cut”.

   The concept is very simple: the user draws a straight line across any selected object, and Illustrator cuts the object along that line from one edge to the other.

   The tool should work with:

   • Vector shapes;
   • Compound paths;
   • Groups;
   • Text converted to outlines;
   • Multiple selected objects;
   • Placed or embedded raster images.

   For example, if I have a rectangle and draw a line through its middle, the tool would immediately divide the rectangle into two independent objects.

   The same concept should work with irregular vector shapes: the line would intersect the object and Illustrator would automatically calculate the intersections and create the resulting separate pieces.

   For raster images, the tool could divide the image into separate cropped sections while preserving the original resolution.

   Ideally, the workflow would be:

   1. Select one or more objects.
   2. Activate the Line Cut Tool.
   3. Draw a straight line across the objects.
   4. Illustrator automatically calculates the intersections.
   5. The objects are divided into separate pieces.

   Additional options could include:

   • Horizontal, vertical, or free-angle cuts;
   • Cutting multiple objects at once;
   • Holding Shift to constrain the cutting angle;
   • Keeping both resulting pieces;
   • Option to delete one side immediately;
   • Support for repeated cuts.

   This would be particularly useful for graphic designers and print-production users who frequently need to divide artwork quickly.

   The main advantage would be speed and simplicity: instead of manually using Pathfinder, Shape Builder, clipping masks, or other workarounds, the user could simply draw a line and cut the artwork.

9. Allow to choose if the Save dialog should "remember the last file format used / PDF is set as a default filetype when saving a new document

   Ever since last update, if i save off a pdf and then create a brand new doc and go to save it, it goes to PDF automatically when it used to always default to .ai so i forget and get to the PDF options and then have to cancel and go back and retype my file name which is just annoying and remembering the last format is not helpful. Almost as annoying as PS trying to export in the last export location instead of the same folder as the .PSD --- NOT HELPFUL

   In the latest BETA 30.0.21, we’ve improved the ‘Save As’ workflow.

   Now, instead of remembering the last used format, the default will always be .AI.

   We made this change to ensure that your files are consistently saved in the native Illustrator format, which is the most reliable option for preserving full editability.

10. In the Export for Screens Dialogue Box, please add a select all button as well, rather than just 'Clear Selection.'

13. Change pattern colors, possibly with an Expand or Colorize effects

    If I have a design that uses a pattern, and I need to have the colors in this pattern to change, I’d have no choice but to create several copies of it and change colors in each one.

    It means that if I change a pattern later, I’d have to either change all the copies of the pattern, or repeat the changes in each copy of the original. And surely I can’t utilize global swatches for this, because duplicating one doesn’t work as expected. We don’t have proper variables to use also.
    Symbols won’t work in patterns (they get expanded silently if you try to use one by drag-n-drop — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/51662026), so I can’t utilize them to build pattern copies faster.

    There are certain hacks...

    I can make a black-and-white variant of my pattern and put it in an opacity mask of a shape, as a giant rectangle, to allow me editing the colored shape later.

    There’s this great trick — https://x.com/toyotoyo2ro/status/1611781124635910144 — that uses flat front 3D legacy Extrude and the Pathfinder Exclude (you can see how it works in the file attached)... it crops, trims, cleans the pattern much more effectively than a manual expand and further cleaning would sometimes, but the Classic 3D is capricious and can 'hit the RAM roadblock' at any moment.

    So...
    Perhaps you can make a dedicated Expand effect, that would allow us to expand patterns live? It’d still need to know how Appearance work and how you can arrange attributes and effects...
    Or perhaps introduce a colorize effect we can assign to a pattern fill/stroke and force colors — something like this Shift Color effect by Astute graphics allows? — https://docs.astutegraphics.com/phantasm/shift-to-color

15. Allow smart guides to highlight the outline of an object or path snapped to

    Often when there are multiple objects in very close proximity to one another, determining which of those objects the active object is aligning to can be uncertain, especially when those close-proximity objects are small or their paths are very close.

    And when you are trying to align an object to another using smart guides as the reference, one might be aligning to the wrong object.
    That is why it is important to know exactly which object is being aligned to... Currently the pink line 'touches' at its endpoint, the object it's aligning to. This can be confusing when there are many objects that have paths that are very nearby.
    My suggestion to improve smart guides is to 'highlight' the outline of the object you're aligning to, rather than just a pink line that touches the object.
    I've included a short video of the current behavior as a reference, and in a screenshot, a suggested solution showing the object being aligned to as outlined in pink.

16. Adjust spacing between bullets and text

    Currently, the bullet-to-text gap is an automatic setting that cannot be controlled by the user, despite placing tab stops on the tabs ruler. There is no mechanism to control this either, in the paragraph tab. Whereas in apps like Word, the spacing can be adjusted between the bullet and text directly.

17. Warichu’s Adjustment value is limited to an integer in point

    Confirmed in Illustrator 30.3.0 and CS4.
    It's probably a problem that occurs in all past versions.

    The "Warichu" using for vertical writing text, under use in Japanese environment.
    The adjustment value is set only to integers of points and it is very troubling.
    In that state, I can only do a rough job too much.
    I would like to improve so that more detailed values can be set.

18. Allow for "New from Template" to remember the last folder used

    New from Template directs us to a dedicated folder that is buried deep inside of Ai’s bowels. It probably is handy for Ai to check it, but it’s now comfortable for us to access it to store the files within. Plus, different projects can have different templates, stored in their relative folders, and an option to make the last folder sticky can be helpful.

19. Arc from circle - Stroke or Fill

    I think it's time to implement the Circle to have sweep/ratio handles to ease with various infographics and artworks. Request is a Circle that can be "cut" to any place to create a stroke only semi circle or arc. Example below.

20. Save this Preserve Numbers option state (either checked or unchecked) for CMYK or RGB

    CMYK or RGB PRESERVE NUMBERS CHECK BOX. Save this parameter (either checked or unchecked) like it used to be in earlier versions.
