Bring back the feature where the text stays on the screen when moving through the a text block In the not-so-distant pass, when kerning in AI using the arrow keys, the screen would move along with the cursor as you went through the copy so you didn’t have to stop kerning to reposition the cursor, it followed along and even returned to the next sentence in the text. Which is still the case with InDesign, it works beautifully. But now that no longer happens in AI. Now when you are kerning using the arrow keys the screen no longer moves along with the cursor, when you reach the end of the text that is visible on your screen…

Typeface recognition and OCR. OCR would be great from images. Typeface recognition would be even better, but I would like to see that implemented better than what's currently implemented in Photoshop, which is not very good at identifying fonts other than fairly standard ones. Sensei might be a good fit for this. Please take a look at WhatTheFont.com and make the recognition at least as good as that.

Paste from Powerpoint I used to paste graphics/text from Powerpoint into Illustrator with no issues. Now with CC, only text in Times will paste without corruption into symbols. Is there a way around converting the font before copying?

Search for Paragraph Return, ^p Find and Replace text has a shortcut popup for a Forced Line Break, ^n, but not the more common simple Paragraph return, ^p.
A Paragraph return is the normal Return button on all keyboards. A forced line break is Shift/Enter.
Find/Replace understands ^n notation for a forced line break, but does not understand ^p notation for a paragraph return.

eyedropper keeps style of Type for multiple selections I wish the eye dropper behaved more like it does in InDesign: If you pick up a type style, you "keep" that style and can apply it to several different text boxes. so if you have a text box with 4 subheads and body copy after each and you want to change all of the subheads to match the first one that you've changed, you could click on the desired style, and then click-drag over each of the subheads carrying the same style to each

Allow to embed fonts to documents/PDFs and convert them to outlines when opened/imported As we primarily use Illustrator for creating our print files for our Printers, it would really help our workflow to be able to open, supposedly print ready PDFs from our Clients, with embedded fonts (partial family or whole set) and to be able to convert to vector outline before closing and passing on to our printers without the need for the us to have the same fonts our self. If font licensing is the issue a button option to auto convert to outline as the file is opened via Illustrator would negate that problem..
I'm requesting this as we are…

tabs and text options Tabulations should be embedded in the tex box and appear only when you press on the box and disappears when you click somewhere else. By default, it should also resize and follow the tex box on screen at all time without requiring you to click on the magnet to put it back where it belong.
Also, the text options of Illustrator are lacking some very useful options that only exist in InDesign. I understand that Indesign is THE BIG SOFTWARE FOR TEXT, but honestly for smaller text oriented documents, I often use Illustrator because it's faster to operate. So, some…

Touch Type improvements Touch Type is a nice tool that is still unfinished.
- Can’t select several glyphs at once (not by Shift+clicking, not with a marquee)
- Can’t constrain rotations to 45° by holding Shift
- Can’t constrain movements to axes by holding Shift
- Can’t select a glyph when it’s even partially obscured by another one next to it
- Can’t reset selection to original states via on-screen controls
- Snap to Glyphs obviously doesn’t work with it (imagine if it would have)
- There is no way to apply changes to one glyph without shifting all glyphs to the right…5 votes -
Allow font size, leading to be blank in paragraph & character styles (as in InDesign). In InDesign, you can leave the font size of a paragraph or character style blank, allowing you to apply a style while preserving the font size that's already set (critical for different sized documents). In Illustrator, while you can create a style with a blank size, it automatically reverts to 12pt.

Word count Please add a words count in Illustrator. In Indesign this is also a missing feature (at lest for the whole document) but I see it has been already requested...in Illustrator it would be more than welcome.

Special characters like in InDesign It would be reat to have special characters (especially hyphens and white spaces) like in InDesign... and that they work just as good. So far, for example, the "nonbreaking space" doesn't always react well when the text is justified.

Inline graphics It is important when you want to create bullets with Glyphs you can simply insert the type tool next ot the sentence and make it part of the sentence (like in Design)

Copy/pasting text from illustrator into other text editors I can't copy text from illustrator and paste into Word, gmail, Notes, Google Docs... anything! It makes it so I have to retype everything which is insane. I used to be able to copy from illustrator into other text editing tools. Why not anymore?

Need an option so that left/right justified point-text anchor aligns exactly with edge of text... I would really like to see an option that will adjust the anchor point of left/right aligned point-text so that the anchor aligns with the visual edge of the text. See screenshot example.

Allow the user to choose artboards for spell check Allow the user to choose artboards for spell check, every time I make new changes it scans the complete document. If the user knows which artboard needs spell check or which range would be easy for people like me who suck at writing correct spelling.

Overline It would be nice to have an overline feature along with the underline and strikethrough.

Make the Touch Type Tool work both sides OK, I'm having this "workflow" issue with the Touch Type Tool.
I like to be able to move 1 character at a time, rotate, move, scale.
But I'm a bit annoyed because SOMETIMES, I'd love it to NOT change the text after. So I usually have to reverse-compensate by making negative kerning on the next character.
See the image attached :
1. I justified my type between the 2 green margins.
-> Nice.
2. I change the H character (scale/rotation)
-> Getting out of the green margin.
3. I change the character after (negative kerning)
-> Back into nice green…5 votes
