Relative Links for Co-Working - Cloud Storage - Home Office
Relative links are absolutely essential for collaborating on common projects in an agency.
It's so annoying to work together on a project. When my collaborator starts an Illustrator file and I want to work on it, all links are broken, vice versa the same and the cycle never ends. Sometimes I don't even know what folder some linked files are stored in, so it's impossible to continue his work without his help!
Everyone who works together on bigger projects has this problem, especially in times of home office.
I figured the Creative Cloud wasn't just meant to be a backup storage. But as it is, it's not useful for much else, unfortunately.
Please, at least add an option for that.

Remove (customize) tiny shadow behind artboards
I've noticed this for years... whenever I create a new document in Illustrator--no matter the size or mode and without any bleed settings, the artboard has a tiny grey "drop shadow" behind the artboard. See ATTACHED. It does not affect art and never prints, but more times than I can count I've found myself zooming in and attempting to select/delete it, thinking I left some sort of unwanted element behind while I was working. Or I see the faint "border" and think my graphic elements aren't fully aligned to the page edge, when the actually are.
5 votesToday artboards have only a tiny 1px border, black for the active one and gray for others.
If you wish to be able to customize these — upvote this request, please: Allow to change color & width of border / edges for artboards (all and active)

Guide lines colored to their corresponding layer
As someone who uses several guidelines on a project, one thing that I have found would be extremely helpful would be if the guide lines were colored to their corresponding layer. (This could be a toggleable option)
This could be particularly helpful when there are a lot of guidelines on the artboard since there is an inverse relationship between the number of guidelines and the readability of said guidelines. The more guidelines there are, the harder it can be to keep track of which guideline(s) corresponds to which element(s).
Personally, and fortunately, I am not colorblind, however, I imagine that different colored guidelines could aid, those who have some form of colorblindness, in easily distinguishing between the guidelines.
Thank you for your consideration

Keyboard shortcuts for switching Workspaces
In Premiere, I can quickly switch between Editing, Multicam and Color Correction workspaces via keyboard shortcuts. I don't understand why the same isn't possible in Illustrator? If you need to switch workspaces with the mouse via a dropdown menu, it negates a lot of the reason for using them in the first place (time savings) It seems even more essential in Illustrator than Premiere, because you typically switch between tasks much more quickly.

"Move to Layer" in right-click menu
I would love to be able to skip the Layers tab on the fly and right-click an object to move it to any layer in the document. It seems like it would make the most sense for this to live in Arrange? Ideally, the layer list would include colored bullets to match layer labels. This would be a huge time-saver for me.

Allow "Welcome to Illustrator" presets to be customized to actual user presets
When the landing or launch page for Illustrator CC2021 opens, there is a box of presets under the line "Welcome to Illustrator.
This system will not allow a drop or upload of either an AI nor JPG screenshot...the default presets are Postcard, Letter, Common, iPhone X, HDTV 1080p and "More Presets."
In my case, I never use any one of those presets, so I have to click "Create New" or "More Presets," which are the same outcomes, then click my way through the various options to get to "Web Large."
It would be nice if (a) the user could enhance experience (UX) by loading that bar with personally-used create new presets, or (b) if Illustrator would position the last used create new preset from Create New on the bar, pushing off one of the unused presets and replacing it with the actually used preset.

Allow font size, leading to be blank in paragraph & character styles (as in InDesign).
In InDesign, you can leave the font size of a paragraph or character style blank, allowing you to apply a style while preserving the font size that's already set (critical for different sized documents). In Illustrator, while you can create a style with a blank size, it automatically reverts to 12pt.

Somehow save font info after outlining.
It sure would be pretty awesome if there was a way to record what the font was while outlining for future reference.

Version History - a couple feature requests
I sorta like the new version history option. It's at least kinda a step towards the history panel so many people want. There are a couple of features that I think would improve it. (If these already exist and I'm missing them can you teach me where they are?)
My first request is adding an option to save at anytime you choose. This only saves every 5 minutes. Say I make a bunch of changes in only 3 minutes. I'd then have to wait 2 minutes for it to create a save point before I could choose to revert to a previous version. I have noticed that if you choose to revert before it's saved your most recent change it will still create a current timestamp however it takes even longer to revert back to it. For example (sorry this will probably be confusing): Say I have two previous versions. One at 7:00 PM and another at 7:05 PM. I decide to do a few quick color changes and move some things around. It's now 7:08 PM. I can't go back and compare the 7:05 PM version or choose to save my current state so I can immediatly return to it. I can choose to go back to the 7:00 PM version. That's not helpful if I made changes between that and the timestamp I really want to return to. If I revert to the 7:00 PM time my 7:08 PM version is technically saved. At least a timestamp is added for it. However I've noticed it then takes 10 minutes before I return to it. It would make things a little smoother.
My other request would be a quicker way to save or export a version as a separate file. Currently you can just revert to a version and then choose to save as and create a new file. It's not really that hard or slow but still. It would be nice to have the option right there on the panel. It could be added to the "•••" next to the timestamp. Like this:
6:00 PM ••• Name this version
Revert to this version

More vector brushes
Have more brushes! (like a tapered brush), allow to add, export, and make custom brushes.
Easily delete overlapping lines like in CSP.
Include patterns like half tones for comics we can drag and drop inside shapes.
Allow gradients and patterns to be applied to the stroke.
We can choose which part of the stroke to change the width instead of all of it.
Have an option to do an even width change or freehand.
Be able to fill color within the visible strokes/lines instead of shapes.5 votes -
Allow repeat patterns to be added to swatches
In the desktop version of AI you were able to create patterns and then add them to the swatches panel to access in any other file. This would be a good feature for the app.

Separate rulers for artboards
Could we get individual rulers per artboard. This would make it easier to see spacing and relationships on individual boards.

New Font Height options unit of measurements
Love the new Font Height options, but it would REALLY be helpful to be able to change the unit of measurements from points to inches or millimeters.

Linking dxf/dwg
This might be very wishfull thinking...
I am an architect, and use CAD to make plan drawings, and illustrator to make them look good (adjusting lineweight, stroke, color and so on). But if i make an updated drawing in CAD, i have to do everything all over again in Illustrator. It would be awsome if illustrator was able to give a specific layer a specific lineweight/stroke/color etc... and was able to update this on its own!

Allow pattern tile size more than 1.41 meters
Make pattern tiles bigger in size. Now it is limited to about 1.41 meters. Nowadays we can print on textile directly. So the limitation in making a pattern is not bound to physical limitations we've had for years. When printing on fabric that is 1.50 meters I want to be able to make a pattern that has that same width.
Since you already increased the maximum artboard size, why not increase the pattern tile size as well?5 votes -
Ellipse Tool Properties/Dialogue
Ellipse Tool, if make an ellipse then you have a little squire pointing to make ellipse’s End Angle and Pie Angle, but you do not have these feature available in its properties/Dialogue/Menu when you just select Ellipse Tool and you clip on the canvas or on Art Board you have no control features for that and you also do have the same features in Control Bar and Useless Properties Panel. I hope in the future version there must be added a dialogue for proper setting and measurements like retangle tool.
