Fix annoying save bug after adjusting UI preferences
I just encountered an annoying save bug that caused me to lose 90 minutes of work in Illustrator. Here is the sequence of events:
• I opened an existing document in AI, with the intention of changing it and saving as something else.
• I opened preferences and made a minor UI adjustment (tweaked the size of my tool bar).
• Dialog #1 stated that changes will not occur until you restart AI. Would you like to restart? Yes/No.
• I selected YES (without thinking), under the assumption that I would be given the option to 'save as.'
• Dialog #2 stated that I could either save over my existing file or trash my changes.
• I wanted to 'save as' so that I could save the new work without writing over the existing file. Since both options were undesired and there was no way for me to back out, I chose "do not save" and lost my work.
I would prefer to have seen a "CANCEL" button that would have allowed me to back out of the process altogether, so that I could manually save the new work. Now, I'm forced to start over.
Please look into it and find a fix. Thanks.

alt click swatches to add colors to a selected gradient
With a gradient object selected, it would be much quicker to alt click swatches from the swatch panel to add to current selection
2 votesThis is exactly how it works now — Alt+clicking a swatch applies it to selected gradient stop. Please comment if it’s not what you had in mind.

Make the shear tool work as it does in InDesign
InDesign shearing is superior because you can see where an item's angle is and change it at any time. The best part, however, is that you can extend the sides or resize the sheared shape and it retains the correct angle, allowing you to reuse assets much more easily.

UI Scaling for Macs without 1920 x 1080 resolution (on a MacBook Pro 13" M1)
Hello, I would like to have UI scaling for smaller Macs that do not have or meet the resolution listed (ie 1920 x 1080).
I am on a 13" Mac and it is difficult to see my toolbars at its current size and don't have a solution to improve it. This feature would aide in stronger accessibility to those who have vision impairment or challenges. Thank you for considering this change.

saveascopy command in Illusrator script
Please, pretty pleas with sugar on top add SaveAsCopy function to illustrator script. All i need to be happy is to bind a script that allows me to save a copy of specific AI art board(s) as PDF with presets. it is impossible to save copy of document without closing current AI file.
I work in print and that is the thing illustrator lack for me, one script command... saveCopyAs.
Why does it matters? because i have tons of print layouts with ton of PDF's to link on aforementioned plates, and i need to sometime go for 3 different export as pdf to get to last print layout... i save a lot of PDFs. Not to even mention small size pdf's that i need to send to clients. There are days that i make the same PDF 7 times before i end with client, and then i do like 2-3 more to have flexo print layout. And after that i have 8 more projects to do. Don't even get mi started on moving something 2mm left and going once after 9 projects and 9 layouts...
So when i have the change done, I want to be able hit saveAsCopy keybind script, then illustrator will nicely ask me if i want to update linked file on layout, i say yes, hit another saveascopy and he will ask me if i want to make an update on final layout for anilox roller, I say yes, hit save as copy, and I AM DONE. Now 9 more.
All that this will give mi is Save of time from saving all this files manually by clicking file->Save as Copy. And that is all i really want, the save in time on repeatable tedious actionPlease, pretty pleas with sugar on top add SaveAsCopy function to illustrator script. Recovery Improvement
The cancel button should not instantly close the file. The reason why is I'm so used to pressing cancel to get out of an option that I don't want without it closing the file. Because of this, I have been conditioned to think that if I press cancel then I will still be able to work on the file. This goes for all Recovery options on all the programs. It would also be nice to have access to said recovery file longer rather than it being completely lost after pressing cancel.

Remove the "legacy" designation from Save For Web.
Save For Web was marked as "legacy" when Export For Screens was added, with the implication SFW would be vanishing at some point. It's seven years later and SFW is still around, and still what I use 100% of the time over EFS and the terrible Export As... options.
Save For Web is a great tool for someone creating art with Illustrator; it lets me quickly and easily adjust the file format and resolution of the generated image for whatever I may need, and uses most of the screen to show me exactly what I'll be getting.
Export for Screens? It's terrible for my needs. One tiny little thumbnail for each artboard. Or each "asset". Which I guess are useful if you're making user interfaces? I don't do that, I use Illustrator for illustration.
Export As...? It's even worse. Each file format has a terrible little dialogue box without much consistency between them, and next to no control over the final size - guessing at final pixel size by changing the DPI is utterly absurd to do. It used to be useful, years ago; it used to be as powerful as the dialogue Photoshop gives you when you try to import an AI file. Then the whole UI got rebuilt and that was thrown out in favor of a bunch of dialogues that do the barest minimum effort required. Now it's just a bunch of bad jokes.
Save For Web is the only one of these options that's really useful to an artist, and you hide it away by saying it's "legacy". Obviously not something anyone should USE.
Please, do what you have to do to make Save For Web something you don't want to mark as "legacy". Keep it around. Modernize it so you can drop in new file formats as the world decides they're useful. I really do not know what I'd do if you ever did finally follow through on the implicit threat of removing it; exporting stuff would be a huge pain **********.

Cut-off of Effects like Drop Shadow etc
Working with Flexo plates, we need to cut-off vignettes at 3%, it would be great to have an 'Advanced' section on effects like Drop Shadow to cut off at a stated percentage. Currently have to work around by Expanding the effect, exporting an the image for Photoshop, using the Curves to cut-off of 3%, then relinking the image in Illustrator which also means having multiple files...

Make Illustrator understand the Mask component of SVGs.
When importing SVGs into Illustrator, the application does not seem to be able to interpret the native SVG masks used. Attached are two SVGs. One is the original one, and the other which ends with "illustratorfromsvg" is how the SVG looks in illustrator.
You can open both in your web browser. Notice how the hair of the woman in the SVG that's been opened in illustrator does not cover her shoulders. If you look at the original SVG you can see how the hair is supposed to "mask" her shoulders.
I have explained this more thoroughly in this community thread: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/illustrator-does-not-understand-svg-masks/m-p/12403616#M292425If Illustrator could handle these masks it would save me countless hours since I have to manually create each of these everytime I open an SVG in Illustrator. This is part of a task that I perform on a daily basis so it would be great if the feature could be added.

Give aligning options for Text on Path tool.
When using the Text on Path tool, it would be nice to have alignment/distribution options.
Aligning the first and last letter, center at top or bottom, and fit text around a shape.
They way it is now, you have to drop guides and align and distribute the text so that it is even.
It would be wonderful also to use the dropper tool to apply the alignment to new text. For instance, if I have an emblem and need to wrap several different texts around it, then once I have one the way I like I could easily apply that all text groups.

Jumble Characters Option
I would love a feature where you could jumble characters in a text box to simulate what you see in many Children's based design elements of titles and such. Currently you have to outline your text and then start manually turning your letters slightly while pushing and pulling your kerning/spacing and baselines. Possibly three options; rotate clockwise, counter-clockwise and random with sliding scales for how extreme to turn them.

Change behavior of scrolling out of bounds or overlapping panels
When dragging an element to the page or screen edge, the scrolling rate goes from 10px/second to 1000 and you spend most of your time trying to figure out how to go back far enough but not too far. If you go too far, you scroll 1000px in the other direction. All while you are holding a bunch of important elements that you don't want to release. It's unnerving and makes no sense. Make the scroll rate consistent even when scrolling out of bounds. Either that or don't let us scroll further our of bounds than the width or height of whatever we are dragging + a little buffer. I have never wanted to scroll to -100000px but it seems like if I try to nudge the edge, I end up there every time.
Also, if I drag an element and some panel is in the way, hide the panel until I am done. If I am dragging something and approach a panel, don't just drop what I am dragging without making any changes. That doesn't help anyone. Let me drop my elements wherever I want, panels take lower priority than what the user wants.

Automatic Saves and Back Ups
Softwares like Ableton, particularly Ableton, provide an automatic save feature, multiple back ups, as well as allow you to restore your work if your software crashes. Additionally, you can "Collect All and Save" and the program collects all the project files and organizes them within the project folder where you will never lose them as long as you have the folder and no longer have the issue of missing files. I believe that this system should be adopted by Adobe as this would save countless hours and lost progress for its users. Thank you.

Airbrush features
It would really open up Illustrator to a brand new superior level for not just technical illustrator artists, but other artists that would like to see their drawings in a vectorize art form where they could really explore blending and shadings, instead of just typically relying on pixalated, or rasterized form to perfect their drawings. I fully believed in the potential power of vectorizes art being taking it to another level for artists that can draw freely with their hands. Illustrator’s appeal to hobbyists, Graffiti artist, Caricaturists, and other individual form of artist that specializes in different genres have been waiting for Adobe Illustrator to finally recognize and acknowledge their not-so technical skills and let them discover what they do with these superior app.
