The latest Beta 29.2.38 now offers a way to see the distances between a selected object and an object hovered over / edges of an artboard.

    1. Click on the object you want to measure the distance from
    2. Press Opt/Alt and hover over the object that you want to measure distance to
    3. You can also hover over empty area to see the distance from the selected object and the artboard boundaries

Please try it and come back with the feedback.

The solution to that would be to activate a stroke if you want to apply a color to it, then to hold Shift when clicking a color — does not matter where this color is on a stroke or a fill. Illustrator then applies the picked color to the active fill/stroke, ignoring the source nature. There are two things to know — the cursor does not inform you about this mode (unlike the Alt-mode, should be addressed), and if you pick a color from a swatch — you’d get a screen representation of the color... harmless for RGB documents (if your color settings are in order), but crucial for CMYK documents (should be addressed too). Pleas comment back.

We have done further updates to Dimension tool with recently released version - 28.3

You can create and use your custom scale for dimension, hide or show units on dimensions and dimensions are now sticky to the object - they transform as well when you transform the object.

This one should be very easy to make happen. Please let us use a path, with gradient stroke applied, to be used as an art brush. When we try to do it, Illustrator gives us this message (attached image).

I think the primary goal of letting us control the object with the arrow keys is so we can be accurate with it's placement on the artboard. But this becomes completely useless if the zoom level is very high, in which the arrow keys moves the object a big distance. This forces us to use the mouse to get the accurate position for the object.

For example if we've zoomed in, then let the arrow keys move the object a smaller distance than usual, so that we can be more accurate with an object's placement with the arrow keys. I think anyone would find this ability useful.

An indented way to achieve this now is to create a simple action.

    1. Create an action

    2. Select some art

    3. Create a new Layer with a button in the Layers panel

    4. Object > Arrange > Send to Current Layer

    5. End recording

Actions are great for automating various routines we have in Illustrator, and this is just one of them. If you think it still should be a native operation instead (or an action to be included in standard Actions pack) — please vote and comment.

As of right now, we're forced to create a new layer first and turn that layer into a template. It'd be much easier if we could simply turn an existing object within a layer into a template.

You can already do this with illustrator. Explore the preferences options and you'll find
