An error occurred while saving the comment Dina Dembicki commentedI understand what Daan is saying, about alignment, anyway.
You can select objects on different artboards and align the objects to each other. This will not work if the artboards are not aligned.
You can align artboards using the artboard tool. Or align all artboards in the artboard palette.
And of course, you can write down the x and y position of the original object and move the object you want aligned to those coordinates. This is the long way.
I hadn't thought about edit similar. Will need to experiment with that.
You can also copy something on one artboard and paste it in place on another artboard.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dina Dembicki commentedWhen working with supplier-provided die lines (for packages), I often have to rotate the artboard so that the panel I'm laying out is positioned upright. It would be efficient if the align tools could rotate with the artboard.
The way it is now, when you rotate the artboard, the alignment tools stay in the original orientation, which makes me have to figure out which direction I'm nudging with the arrow tools on my keyboard, as well as which button will actually align left/right/top/bottom, visually.
You can see in the attached video with my artboard rotated, the arrow keys nudge based on the original orientation, as do the alignment tools. This is frustrating when I want to nudge down, but end up nudging right or left. (Apologies for the bad movie, I'm unfamiliar with the software.)

An error occurred while saving the comment Dina Dembicki commentedThis is a super-old post, but in case you haven't figured it out yet, you can do that now. Just make sure you've selected the artboard in the align dialog box.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dina Dembicki commentedThis has been around for a while without comment from Adobe, probably because this can already be done. I propose users try out the Merge Swatches function. Colors to be merged need to be the same type, such as spot, process, or lab. In the color swatch palette, first, select the color you want to change to, then select the color you want to change from, and then from the hamburger menu select Merge Swatches. The color you don't want will disappear from the palette and items that were the old color will now be the new color. More info on this page (scroll down to Replace, Merge or Delete Swatches): https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/using-creating-swatches.html

An error occurred while saving the comment Dina Dembicki commentedHave you tried template layers? What's nice about a template layer is that you can show/hide it, but they don't print. Therefore, it also doesn't show up if you place the AI file as artwork into another app such as InDe. No shortcut to visibility, however. Love that I don't have to remember to turn it off when saving to place.
How would it work? Would you select something on a layer and use the shortcut to show/hide the entire layer?

An error occurred while saving the comment Dina Dembicki commentedMight be a preference then, because some do prefer it the way it is.

Done in version 26 (2022). You can now use Tab and Shift+Tab to cycle focus while renaming layers and artboards (but not assets yet — vote to make it happen, https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31567951). Yay!
Please comment here if you have any issues with how it works).Dina Dembicki supported this idea · -

Live preview of color is now live in Illustrator 27.1.1, for Color Picker dialog, Color panel, Properties and Control panel, and Appearance panel.
It works in GPU mode only.

I am happy to share that we have shipped the Bullets and Numbering in 26.4 update for Illustrator. It’s a phased rollout so you may not see 26.4 update yet but it would rollout globally in a day or two.
You can read about this and other new features here ( https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/whats-new/2022-5.html ).

Number 2 for me.
Agree with Darrian Bagley, this function would make it much easier to create branding color palettes.
Also, in my case, doing package design for grocery: I send to the production team a "master" file with one flavor laid out, and then off to the side I make boxes with the colors for the other flavors. This way they can hit the ground running without having to come back to me for color choices before they upload into the workflow software for routing.
