A software plug is good, but it does not mean it works for all cases. An error occurred while saving the comment Never had anything like this :/
Does it help in any way to temporarily disable the second monitor? Just to exclude the dual-screen causes completely. An error occurred while saving the comment @Wendy, I wish I knew it myself! All I know is that the team is aware of it now. We all just have to wait and vote, here and there. I'll try to figure it out though.
An error occurred while saving the comment Bala, the team is now aware of this problem and is going to review it. It seems like the bug has returned. Actually, UV now is the shortest way to get an attention to a problem. I try to look through all incoming reports and read all the comments.
An error occurred while saving the comment Does it happen in one document or any other too?
Does it persist when you relaunch Ai?
What version are you using?
Does the Move dialogue work (hit Enter when any selection tool is active to launch it). -

An error occurred while saving the comment I am trying to make it crash with latest Ai Beta at Windows 10, with all the files shared, and saving just works for me :(

An error occurred while saving the comment Yep! It seems like it’s a global crash, and different teams are now aware of it.
It’s been discussed here and there, at forums (like https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-photoshop-can-t-open-freezes-on-splash-image-uses-all-of-ram-trying-to-open-then-crashes/idi-p/14781463) and even some videos (like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCJq2QwLak0)
So far the only known workaround is to delete some Beta apps — basically the same thing you did :(
So no need currently to create a spindump file. If anything new comes up — all these are going to be updated.
Thanks and sorry for the hassle... I hate situations like this as much as you do :(An error occurred while saving the comment Well, sorry to hear that :(
You should never update Beta apps when you are in a deadline! It’s Beta! Not worth the risk!So it does not exactly crash, but gets frozen...
Since you are on a Mac, it’d be harder to see why.
Please try create a Spindump (here is a random article from web on how to do this: https://support.zoom.com/hc/en/article?id=zm_kb&sysparm_article=KB0066190 — don't mind it’s from Zoom and skip the last steps) and send it over to Ai team to investigate to sharewithai@adobe.comI can’t promise a reply, but they do read this inbox.
Please also put the link to this UV report in the body of the email so they can track it — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/939477/suggestions/48718280
Sorry again I can’t help more than this.An error occurred while saving the comment Sorry, not sure if I get it correctly.
You have updated Media Encoder Beta (but not Illustrator Beta), and now Ai Beta crashes on launch?
Does it show any crash reporter dialog?
Have you tried to downgrade either and check if it solves the problem? -

An error occurred while saving the comment If you mean the Polygon dialog we get when just click the canvas with Polygon tool, then indeed — for some reason it allows to enter only the radius of it.
However, both Properties and Transform panel allow to set the size of the side.
Upvoting it and fixing the title to make sure more people find it. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Plus I’d like to have hotkeys not only for plain pathfinder operations, but also to their live compound shapes versions, the ones we now get with holding Opt/Alt.
An error occurred while saving the comment Duane, it is doable (partially).
Open Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts dialog (Cmd + Opt + Shift + K).
Choose Menu Commands instead of tools in the dropdown at the top.
Open Object and locate Expand command. Assign a hotkey to it. Done. This however will launch a full dialog, asking you for things you want expand each time you call it.
To automate it more, you can use actions.
Create a simple shape using the default style. Keep it selected.
Open Actions panel.
Create a new set, pressing 'folder' button at the bottom (it’s optional, you can use an existing set).
Create a new action and name it.
Go Object > Expand and keep only Stroke option chosen.
Stop recording the action.
You can assign an F-key-based hotkey to it. Each time it’s called, it’d expand only stroke and nothing else.Same applies to Pathfinder operations (this is how I access them as well, through actions).
Ai should definitely allow direct shortcuts to these. An action with only one operation inside is a wasted action slot and a missing hotkey.
There are several existing UV entries about it:
1. A general one — Assignable keyboard shortcuts for EVERYTHING — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31609237
2. A more specific one — Keyboard shortcuts for all Pathfinder options (Unite, Divide, Trim, etc) — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/37343224
3. Well, a declined one about Expand Strokes specifically — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/32511838 — can’t agree.Would you mind me merging your request with #2?
An error occurred while saving the comment How do you think Effect > Pathfinder > Add differs from Pathfinder panel’s Unite? As I see it, there is no difference between these two.

An error occurred while saving the comment Mahendran, you should not post comments in random topics.
Next time, please try to search for existing reports in the same topic or create new ones.
This time, I extracted your comments into one.Do you use Beta builds or normal ones?
If Beta — a problem is known. There are several discussions and videos on the topic, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCJq2QwLak0Of it’s a normal build, please share more details on the OS specs, apps you have installed, etc.
Have you tried to downgrade? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Most of things I design and prepress don’t require bleeds, and having it changed to default 5 mm (even though I live and work in a metric part of the world) would greatly disturb my workflow. This change would cause more ruckus than not having bleeds by default!
Something like this should be solved by providing proper export profiles to clients / designers by printing shops themselves, and by raising the awareness, by checklists, not by silent changes like this.

An error occurred while saving the comment @Ashley, @Imaginary Holly, would you please try to use a different keyboard (if possible), switch keyboard input layouts? Also, create an Area Type and fill it with placeholder text (from Type menu) — what will happen?
An error occurred while saving the comment This is bad :(
I’d try to test and see if this behavior happens if nothing at all except Illustrator is launched — no apps, no browsers, no services — to see if it’s some other app spams these symbols or not. Plus I’d try to copy and paste the text into a new TXT file, saved it with Unicode encoding (to be sure these are saved as they are, and shared here, for the team to look at. Can you do it, please? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Wilfredo, would you sharing several examples when using these settings fails and explain what parts of the result you find lacking in quality and why?
The team is constantly interested in making Image Trace better and your feedback would really help them. -

An error occurred while saving the comment I made a separate request:
Make Revert operation into a History step we can undo
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48724640Please upvote it, if you find it useful
An error occurred while saving the comment Saurav, no.
1. F12 is NOT a default Revert hotkey across 'all the Adobe apps'.
Please check your facts.InDesign doesn’t have it.
After Effects does not have it.
Premiere does NOT have it.The only major app that does have it — Photoshop. And it has a reason to have it, read below.
2. Shielding this with a confirmation does NOT work.
Having confirmations is a bad UX solution, and it’s known now — it seems like only Adobe is not aware.
People don’t read these, and either learn to not notice these or to skip these. What apps should do instead is to allow a mistake, but then giving a chance to Undo it.
Like modern email clients now do — you can undo sending an email, because there is a hidden delay.Photoshop does NOT have a confirmation, but it allows us to UNDO the Revert, unlike other apps.
3. This is not the only change Adobe would force on us, but this time having it assigned to F12 causes more problems and l lead to data lost than it has benefits.
4. On the contrary, F12 can be changed back, if users would want it.
The statistics I was able to gather say only 1 of 5 users prefers using a hotkey (and some just don’t use it). Many others remove it to have F12 free for actions. An error occurred while saving the comment Hm. As far as I remember, AI's default hotkey for 'Revert' is F12.
And you can clear it in Keyboard shortcuts to nothing easily.
Why didn't you do it and what exactly combination do you speak of?An error occurred while saving the comment On Mac? I don't know such a command for Windows version. I know 'Revert' and it is F12 and it rewinds only to saved state and it's easily disables via hotkeys settings.

An error occurred while saving the comment It actually makes sense. Even with a warning it’s still an easy thing to miss in a hurry.
I’d say Ai can drop the history, but allow us to undo the Revert operation.
If we compare it to the way Photoshop does it — Revert would be just a jump to the original Create/Open step, while showing all subsequent steps after that. It’d be still easy to make one operation and erase all of these... So Ai should just do it better than Ps does.

The bug seems to be fixed in Beta 28.7.0.65
Please try to update and verify if it now works as intended for you.
An error occurred while saving the comment Christy, 28.7 (or 28.8 now) — is the Beta build. It is available in Creative Cloud Desktop application under Apps, Beta Apps.
You can either wait until the change gets pushed to the stable channel, or try to install Beta.

An error occurred while saving the comment Jake, this happens because of Alt basically.
In the latest versions of Ai using Smooth tool also brings up Smooth panel. There is no option to NOT show it (yet, hopefully).
But the latest Beta now remembers the position of this panel and for now you can move it aside and it won’t bother you this much at least. Please try it and see if it makes it any more tolerable.

An error occurred while saving the comment @connies, do you still have this problem in Ai?
Do you mean with no Shift it works fine?
Does it happen only with images, as you say, or with any object you try to duplicate?
Does it differ if you try CPU Preview mode instead of GPU? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Yes, Free Transform does not duplicate with Opt/Alt — but it was never able to.
This makes it a feature request and not a bug report. I am adding my vote and I really wish for it to have more :( -

An error occurred while saving the comment Grant, do you still have a problem like this in Illustrator?
I can’t replicate it at all.
Can you please test this anew in a recent version of Ai? -
1 vote
An error occurred while saving the comment Indeed, Ai prefers center points if you drag objects not by the edge or a corner (which is tough to do with the bounding box enabled). Makes total sense. The objects are small and you grab by center in the video.
If you open Attributes and disable centers, Ai will use the overall bounds to snap to grid.
I don’t think it’s a bug. Would you agree now? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Thomas, can you please check if Cmd+D works for you in the recent version of Illustrator?
Berk, the ding sound usually happens when some kind of modal dialog is getting opened secretly behind the app window and prevents normal work. It makes Ai a bit crazy, since it knows the dialog is opened, but can’t see it, it seems. Please try to find the dialog next time it happens, with Ctrl+Tab, Win+Tab, other ways to see all opened windows. Escape might work also. Please comment back if you succeed (or not).
