Brian, not sure what you mean. Does it men something does not get selected for you immediately when you make a single click? You mean it fails, or something else happens? Please elaborate!

As far as I remember, the insertion point, the cursor, was always at a single position, and multi-selections like you describe were not possible.
I will recheck this thoroughly, but I bet you confuse it with something else (or I don’t know something!).
I like the idea though. I’d suggest holding Opt/Alt for this.

Em Jay, yep, it’s a feasible workaround.

Actions are historically bound to -F-keys, and the only reason (I think) these are still limited is because the request to remove the limitation has only 16 votes:
Allow custom keyboard shortcuts for custom Actions (beyond the F1-F14 keys)

I’ve added you as a voter for it, so it’s 17 now.

    Ctrl+C, Ctrl+F, I know....
    But it’s slow.

Especially if you have a lot of heavy linked files.

Also, if you try to use Copy and Paste in Front for objects that belong to different groups, Ai puts them all into the top one, instead of leaving all in their original groups — I never deselected these objects, so it should respect the order and place in front of selected objects!

Same happens if I use Copy option in Move dialog...

There are several scripts that workaround these problems, and a plugin even, but they are not as fast as Move command with Copy option:
    https://onthehead.com/ais/item022/
    https://blog.mikeswanson.com/post/162500942564/duplicate

Sure it should be a default command, don’t you think?

Ah, this is something very strange and super cool, since I can reproduce it — which means the team would probably be able to experience as well.
My first guess was the document actually has something in it, and it’s just Layers fail to display it. That’d explain the bounding box oddity, but not the pathfinder one.

    More observations.
    1. The second layer doesn’t influence both behaviors.
    2. Layers seem normal, nothing is hidden, locked, it has no guides.
    3. If I choose to create a live compound shape, it works, but the result vanishes when expanded.
    4. Scaling a selection to 1% after Select All won’t help (in case there is an object far from the canvas edge somehow).
    5. But the second time you try it (sometimes) — Pathfinder works, and it includes something at the very left, making a rectangle super long as well.

It is weird! Thanks for posting it.

David, please look at the document’s tab — what does it says there? CMYK or RGB?
If it’s RGB — then each time you put CMYK values for colors, they get converted to the document’s color mode, RGB, and then converted back to CMYK, when you try to read the color back.

Ai, unlike some other apps, does not allow mixed intents in one document.
You can change the intent (that is the color mode) in File > Document Color Mode, but it won’t change your Swatches, especially crucial for black one.

If it’s CMYK, than it’s strange and requires further investigation.

Johan, I realized I never replied and never made your points into UV entries (and you forgot to share link to existing ones, so your readers could come here and upvote them!)

    So here they are:
    1. This one for the first entry in the article — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/32683468
    2. Make documents honor artboard settings when adding additional artboards — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49061279 (and I added you as a voter)
    3. Allow for negative value input and Option click with Line Segment Tool — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49061297
    4. Fix Gaussian Blur “clipping” — this clipping is controlled manually in Effect > Document Raster Effects Settings dialog, with Add Around Object value. There is an existing request, Calculate the bounds in Document Raster Effects Settings automatically —
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/46538296 (I add you there as a voter as well)
    5. Enable drag-and-drop of properties in the appearance panel — I think this is a subset of another larger request, An ability to copy/paste appearance attributes / styles — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/32115670
...but there is also a dedicated request for this as well, Ability to copy individual effects from the appearance panel to other objects — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/33820210
    6. A proposal to fix the mess that is Preferences > Units — oh, yes, I know this one, and have been advocating a similar (but different) treatment for years now. There are several similar requests, but yours one is large enough to be posted as it is — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49061354
    7. Please address the Rotate Tool’s origin of rotation resetting on numeric Input — there is an existing report for that, Center of rotation changes position after rotating with a dialog — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/47677763 (rather unpopular) ...plus there is a rather popular request for An ability to permanently move the transformation center (pivot, anchor) when rotating, scaling, etc. — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31518439
    8. Allow for fill and stroke to be set to “none” for multiple selected objects with different appearance — yes! It does not work in Tool panel, but works in Color panel, and works as a hotkey! I showcased it many times, but never reported here at UV... — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/49061402
    9. The Reflect tool should also reflect stroke width — I also made it into a request, but generalized this as 'respect Use Preview Bounds' option, http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49061447
    10. Add Round Butt cap option for strokes — now here, http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49061471 (and I show how to achieve this with a certain plugin).

Articles on Medium, threads on X/Twitter — anything goes if it helps to upvote these. Vote count here helps a ton, UV is tool we can you to tilt the development.
Huge thanks for collecting these into one place.
    Don’t hesitate to upvote more!

Yes, now I get the problem. Not sure when it got dropped though...
But here is the GIF from the CS.
Thank you for digging this out! I completely forgot about this behavior.
But I must admit though (but adding a vote), that if gets implemented back, this might look as a bug for users who do click descriptors just to select a corresponding field, but expect nothing more.

    Found AI9's 'cheat sheet'.
Shift+Enter: Apply value in field, keep field selected (amazing! and it doesn't work)
An yes, not Ctrl+Alt+Enter, but just Alt+Enter — AND IT WORKS :D

I think this Ctrl+Alt+Enter feature can be partially recovered with Autohotkey+Javascript, but native one would be cool (again then).

Local units is cool, but I still lack other units to be local, such as type and stroke.
I have both mm-mm-mm opened with px-px-px, and only rulers stay local when I switch between those.

Are you sure Ctrl+Alt+Enter used to make a copy of an object right from the transform fields? Never heard of this, but I like this one. Voted.

If this is made with not only respecting just variable strokes, but also with Use Preview Bounds option respected, I think it should NOT toggle the actual option. Currently Ai sees toggling similar options (like Scale Strokes and Effects) in various dialog as global options, and I kinda hate it. It leads to problems, like this one: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/47601263

    It happens, true.
But try to Alt-click (or Alt-drag, when a crosshair mode is active) — this should call the dialog for the custom center.
Does it work for you? Please reply.

It works in Move dialog, when we can set a negative distance just fine.
Can’t see why this can’t apply here. Plus, it’d help to alter the starting point of it, and it can be useful as well.

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 24.3.0 which is available worldwide now.

Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!
