This is exactly what Draw Behind mode does in Illustrator. You can toggle it in bottom of the tool panel, below Fill/Stroke and coloring controls, or using the dedicated Shift+D hotkey.

An error occurred while saving the comment С почином.
Mark says that he wants AI to select the path between cut points automatically, because now he needs to select the segment manually after cutting. What AI does now is selecting start points of resulting segments, which seems rather pointless. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Hm, it works fine for me, each group rotates around it's own center. You should record how it behaves for you and send it with the file to sharewithai@adobe.com

An error occurred while saving the comment It could be great, but how can you tell AI which object would be the key one?
What if I will play the action with different set of objects? -

An error occurred while saving the comment I'm not sure about thumbnail, because objects can be very complex, but highlighting it somehow on canvas (temporarily bringing to front with edge thickening, for example) would be helpful. Voted.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dotted line is quite easily done with dashed stroke. Set dash width to 0, adjust your gap and turn round caps on. Or do you want something more elaborate?

An error occurred while saving the comment May be 'Select only' or 'Disable movement' option, without bloating toolset? But I'm pretty sure a lot of users will be terrified when they suddenly wouldn't be able to move a thing with a mouse because they accidentally flipped the tick.

Hi,
There was an issue in 23.0 causing tools to shift between groups. This has been fixed in latest update (23.0.2). After update, please reset the Basic and Advanced toolbars by opening the tool drawer (3 dots at bottom of the tool bar), then using ‘Reset’ from the fly-out menu (on top right).
Apologies for the inconvenience caused by this issue.
With Best Regards,
Raghuveer SinghAn error occurred while saving the comment Try to update to 23.0.2. There should be a lock for toolbox that prevents tool jumping.
Objects with transparency masks applied are displayed with dashed underscore in Layers. Does it work differently for you?
