The most recent version finally has the Object > Distribute menu added.

Now both Align and Distribute commands can be accessed via menu and have assigned keyboards shortcuts to them.

The order of the commands though seemingly matches the one the panel has: horizontal first for Align and vertical first for Distribute. If you find this odd and want to change it — vote here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/45855823-sync-the-order-of-align-and-distribute-menu-comman

Also, Align To and Distribute Spacing commands are still missing in top menus, so please keep voting here to make them added too.

Sudhir, there is not enough default free keyboard shortcuts to assign all of these commands.
But you can assign them to any keys you want via Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts: Menu commands, in Object > Align.

Bobby, I think I remember a request to 'treat the first / last selected object as a key object', the same way Corel Draw does...
However, currently I can’t locate it. Would you mind to log it separately? If I find one later, I will merge them.
Please describe the way you think it should work, the way for Preferences and / or Align to handle it, if it should highlight a key (and why not if not), etc.

As for the hotkeys in general — as you say, RLCTBE in Ai do something else and reassigning them hardly worth it...
But there are plenty of requests about hotkey customization in general, including more modifiers and more flexibility. Please upvote them, it helps.

While this is necessary, you can still use Actions to record alignment/distribution (I do). These are limited to F-keys, but you can always redefine them in Autohotkey (Windows) and Hammerspoon (Mac).

As for the Tab — this button is taken (and I would be very mad if it would be taken from me).
'Next object above/below' is there, Alt+Ctrl+square brackets, is it what you want? (it kinda broken in Isolation mode though)

While it's not done, record some Actions for aligning and use F-keys to access them.
This is a way I use now.

If you want Illustrator team to implement this feature for everybody to use — sure, you won’t get paid for sharing a request here.

If you want to make a plugin yourself that does this and have profit — don’t post anything if you think that your idea is worth it.

    Ideas are cheap though.

Lotte, can you please elaborate on this?
Illustrator does now allow to rotate artboards, it can rotate only the view of the canvas. And when it does it, the object surely are rotated with the canvas. So what do you ask for exactly? Can you make a mockup of it maybe, or just explain in different words?

Ai tends to ignore context menus in general.

Here is a general request to have more of these: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/46925695

Jessica, I was finally be able to look into the file you shared.
The structure inside didn’t really answer what happened, but allows to compare the broken clip groups to the one that survived (the one at the top, with the red tie).

Take a look at the first image attached.
The tree on the left is the survived one, the one on the right is broken.
Both are quite messy and strange, but the one on the right is just 'Group', and the clipping group inside has nothing in it but the mask.

I ahve my guess on why this happened technically, but to prove it I’d need to take a look at the tree like this for the object BEFORE the file get saved and reopened — Ai seems to change the order of objects in clipping groups.

But you can avoid this problem in the first place, if you do these simpler, with no duplicates — take a look at the .ai file attached and the second image. All you need to do is a single path (with a stroke applied to it) and the clipped image.

Take a look at these and comment back, please.

Elizabeth, the team suspects that can be triggered by moving the original file to another folder while it’s still opened.

Then, if Ai crashes, if can’t properly locate it and it leads to this exact problem.

Does it sound like something that could have been the case?

    Hey, I got this myself!
    Ai crashed.
On relaunch it offered me to restore the file and correctly displayed its name in the dialog.
When I agreed to restore it, I got 'Print.ai' profile opened.
I checked if it’s the actual 'document profile or just a new one named like this — and indeed Ctr+Shift+S opened 'New Document Profiles' folder! It IS the document profile! Why does this happen?

    Strange.
'Print.ai' is a name one of the document profiles Ai uses to base new documents upon. There are also 'Web.ai', 'Mobile', 'Film & Video', 'Art & Illustration'... the same ones you see in File New dialog.
As far as I know, when Ai crashes or gets forcefully closed, it tries to restore docs, but tries only once. In case it crashes again on launch, the temporary files he uses to restore data, are deleted anyway. Kind of lame, actually...
But I never experienced having blank documents opened instead of getting these recovered, on definitely no opening a document profile itself!

Hope this never happens again, but if it does, please try to see what folder it opens when you try to save changes to this 'Print.ai', just to be sure it’s the actual document profile file.

I bet I saw a request like this before, but can’t find one.
    I know of two workarounds:
    1. Make a rectangle instead and then use Object > Artboards > Convert to Artboards — I use it all the time and have a hotkey assigned to it.
    2. Create an artboard elsewhere outside of the other one and then drag it in place (with the Move Everything Together With Tt disabled).
    3. I wish there was a third one, 'to hold Space bar while creating an artboard to reposition it, like we can with shapes' — but it doesn’t exist, and here is the request about it: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/45845635

Darla, thank you so much for this report!
    1. Yes, updating this Beta build indeed is not smooth. If one chooses to 'remove old version' when prompted, CCD removes the older Beta, but forgets to install a newer one for some reason! The team is aware and is investigating it. The solution you came up with is OK too, reinstalling it anew just works.
    2. The behavior with scaling contents of artboards with them is not a bug, but actually a long-awaited functionality requested here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31500847. The problem with is though the mode is now enabled by default, and most users are not aware of it. You can disable it from Control panel or from Properties ((like the screenshots show).
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Thank you for reporting this.
The team would need more details to investigate this.
You say 'sometimes', and I’m afraid it’d be hard to catch it... Do you have a test project that always get missing links when you try to package it?
Does it differ perhaps when you specify one drive to have the folder created and not other?
Please try to track the conditions it happens with.
