An error occurred while saving the comment Jochelle, do you mean a new file created with the predefined structure, or a preset you can 'apply' to any opened document?
The first is already possible — save a document with the content, layout, presets, layers, and setup you need, and save it as an .ait template — next time when you launch this file. a new unnamed document based on it will be created.
If you mean the latter — well, an action can be used... but it won’t support predefined names and won’t allow to freely create a complex structure. In this case, custom made scripts can be used — I certainly recall Von Glitschka were having one, written for him.
I personally prefer to use .ait templates. The only problem can be a fixed layout, but it depends on your workflow.What do actually need?

GPU mode Ai uses by default is fast, but can be imprecise at high zoom levels. To see the art the way it’s drawn, with no precision rounding artifacts, toggle it to CPU mode instead.
An error occurred while saving the comment I see not what you mean with rulers and setting origin inside of a symbol, while editing it. Somehow I missed this part, assuming it’s a normal art, not an edited symbol. Instead of moving the origin in this mode, you should move the art itself. You don’t have to eyeball it, using Transform panel to adjust the position of the selected contents. Still have no idea what your workflow is, but I hope you were able to figure it out.

Even though it looks like it’s a brush applied, I think it’s just the way it gets rendered due to the precision limit, with some points collapsed. Treat is as a 'quantum effect'. Remember, the current way AI today renders graphics is with GPU — it’s fast, but it cut corners when compute things. Try to toggle the rendering mode to CPU and compare the results.As for the origin point — I think you’d have to share the file and explain your steps, so that me and the team can reproduce the problem.

An error occurred while saving the comment The stroke offset at the highest zoom level is a known problem. We are reaching the level of maximum precision, and some rounding happens.
I’m seeing the same problem, but less pronounced.
But I can’t reproduce the problem with dragging an origin point from the rulers’ intersections.
Can you please record this on video? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Austin, I made many attempts to replicate it, watched video frame by frame, but failed to make it happen :(
All I can do for now is to ask questions:
1. Does it differ if you place a new point further away from the previous one and its handles?
2. Does it differ if you don’t pull out handles at all and instead just click, creating a polyline?
3. Does it differ if make pauses longer between click?
4. Are you sure you don’t have any services launched that can send 'Escape'?
5. Do you have any plugins installed? (these CAN influence native tools, trust me, I had many now solved cases with them)
6. Are you able to test Ai Beta (it’s available for all users in CCD app) and see if something similar happens there as well? -

The issue reported no longer happens in 29.0.1.
In case a similar problem happens with you, make sure you have both Snap to Grid and Snap to Pixel disabled.

An error occurred while saving the comment I see the confusion.
This is not because the Appearance section in Properties panel works wrong, it’s just it’s rather basic — it shows you only the currently selected color for the current attribute.Live text is a collection of glyphs. Each one can get it’s own fill and stroke (but only colors, that is 'basic appearance' — we can’t add more fill to a single character, change the order of fill and stroke, add effects... there is a dedicated request to allow it: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/46545787)
To access characters directly, you can either select some or double-click the Characters row in the Appearance panel (the dedicated one).
Take a look at the GIF attached, and notice how the section in Properties reacts to what is selected and changed.But when you add a new fill in Appearance... you add a fill to the whole objects, above the Characters! They still have their own colors assigned, but the new fill covers them, drawn above. That’s why you get the duplicate when you Expand the text. This is normal, this is how it works, and it just needs to be learnt and utilized.
If you don’t need the colors below the object-level fill — remove individual colors from characters.Does it make any sense?

Properties panel is completely broken for me and is blank in 95% of cases, so this command it missing for me.
And since there is no dedicated Object > Dimension menu (and it should exist, http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49010378), having it in Control makes it mandatory. Even if Properties worked and there was the menu group! -

218 votesAn error occurred while saving the comment In my case I got the 8th one duplicated three times in a row, using the latest Beta.
Others never happened for me, so it’s random.
@onenower, were you able to reproduce it using the steps from below?An error occurred while saving the comment After 6 years of pain I was able to find steps to get this bug happen.
Please take a look at the GIF and try these steps:
1. Open a new doc
2. Create a rectangle
3. Use Object > Artboards > Convert to Artboards
4. Undo — notice there is no rectangle left, even though it makes sense to have it back. Ai shows the step for it though!
Create another rectangle and convert it to artboard again (I use a hotkey now) — notice how the name is now 'Artboard 4' (not 'Artboard 2', how it should be — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/36673057, — and not even 'Artboard 3', but 4!)
5. Undo again
6. Now create a third rectangle and convert it, and then the fourth rectangle and convert it too — notice the numbers are 1, 2, 4 (!!!), and the names are 1, 5, 5!I. Hate. This. Bug.
It costed me a month salary once.

I think we all share this pain because of this problem, and understand the rage it often invokes. Comments like this are not pretty, but they are good signals. But please restrain yourself from calling people 'losers'.

An error occurred while saving the comment @Amber, sadly, these steps do nothing for me, and their variations too. No skips, no duplicates... You are lucky to be able to keep Ai live for 5 days, without a crash :) But yes, I confirm that it never happens if it was launched recently, and always happens in the heat of an action, with Ai being launched for a while, with a lot of tabs.
Why it often happens at the eights artboard though...

First, try to update your Ai, it is more stable in recent version (for this case I mean). Second, as a cure method, try to close-reopen Ai, it usually helps me.

This bug makes me loose money.

I have made two new artboards, one has got number 46 (OK) and next happen to be 48 (47 is missing). If I try export range 46-48, AICC2018 says it's invalid. 46-47 is OK.
Bug stays after reopening file.

Strange... these work for me.
I can call New from Template with no files opened (and I disabled Home Screen as well), with Ctrl+Shift+N (I am on Windows).
Nick, can you make a test, please? Reassign it to some other hotkey and see if any other combination works for the commands, or is it only Cmd+Shift+N is flawed?
What about other hotkeys, like Cmd+O, or Cmd+N? Does it change if you disable Home Screen?
