Hi AI team, Is there any progress here? Can you provide a status update?
Its a serious issue for users of the pattern maker.
From what I see is that it happens when bitmaps are used in patterns.

Is this an underlying issue with antialiasing and the rendering engine? Sounds similar to how AI also creates an hairline AA edge on asset exports when they arent aligned to the pixel grid or use dimensions that contain half pixels. (is 100.5 px)

Rasterize does not respect the mask. See my example. Or simply try for yourself.

PS save for web has more features than AI's asset export. AI lacks gif, dither control of png, color profiles. no preview.

Thank you for sharing the 3 examples.
My request in addition to these 3 requests share the exact same underlying issue and would be resolved if Illustrator calculated object boundaries based on the mask.

Maybe there is a better phrasing or an opportunity to combine these into one well defined request?

Based on the examples you provided, the underlying disfunction is in Illustrator, rather than how photoshop interprets the data. While Im sure the PS team could fix this, it would only resolve a symptom and not the root cause.

I often need to cut and past into photoshop in order to create assets for web and print. Asset export isnt pro-level yet and lacks features. In addition, it doesnt render fonts as well as photoshop..

Every I need to "export" a design at high quality, I must perform the following.
    - manually create a doc with correct dimensions in Photoshop. I can't rely on the clipboard definition due to this issue. it's an annoyance.
    - paste the art and then scale it larger than I need.
    - Then scale down to match the canvas (the correct, desired size). tap it into place with arrows
    - then export with PS's superior save for web.

Indesign keeps the zoom level when navigating to a new page or editing an attribute of a page via the pages panel - why does illustrator act differently? UI parity should be a pursuit of the teams.

    What is the status here?

I have never once desired the current action: double-click on artboard in the artboard panel and the screen zooms into that artboard. I have always wanted to maintain my current zoom level. It's jolting and disruptive.

I think its the opposite of the inherent function of that panel.
Think about the typical reasons why a user would be using the artboard panel. They would be managing assets from a birds eye view. Managing being an ongoing process - not ending after you click on one board (initiating the zoom)

Are there any users out there that actually benefit from the current automatic zoom action?

This issue is probably happening because the artboard dimensions are not appropriate for raster export (i.e. are in decimals).
If you make x and y values as the whole numbers in the transform panel (not in decimal), then the extra pixels will not be added to the exported image.

That is the workaround, and it’s reported that it’s not always the case.

At the same time — Ai knows the size of artboards to be exported and yet it does not deliver the set sizes, which is not fair. The team is going to rethink the algorithm.

Here is the ai and the accompanying exported examples.
Settings: apparent from file and only options available are that antialiasing is on. But, in normal use, aa MUST be on to allow the art to export and look correct.

But antialiasing of the edge is making the border. Its seems as though ai, renders the art with white pixels off the artboard/object boundaries and this creates the light border.
To function properly, AI should not antialias the edge.

One Correction: I said that legacy export doesnt have this issue, but in this test, it did.
I didnt dive any deeper since I want export for screen to work properly. It needs much more work to be reliable. Currently, for important work, I need to cut and paste assets into photoshop then save for web.

Export for screens needs: gif, color profiles, edge fix, rotated photos rendering fix. I think there are already requests on all of these scattered about.

What method should I use to share?

An error occurred while saving the comment
    K-O commented  ·

When images are exported via Export for Screens, a white anti-aliased line edge border is created, added to the art. This does not occur under the legacy export. This is visible when the artwork has a flood of color, is solid color.

This is a bug. It's an undesired action. 0% of users want or benefit from the action as-is. Please fix it.

Ability to assign a color profile to a png is essential.
We dont want AI to "secretly" convert to sRGB upon export.
There should be feature parity with photoshop which allows profiles on any export.

To the users who say "use webp" or "open in photoshop/preview, thats not related to OP.
OP not asking "what is a workaround?" or "what is another format?"

Illustrator team should change the out-of -the-box defaults to inches for letter, tabloid etc and mm for International sizes. These are print specs. Nobody in the world measures anything other than strokes and fonts in points. There is no reason for the current default settings.

Egor, yes, we can change the profile doc which as you say, does tend to be deleted with updates. But AI's default preferences should make sense. They should be logical. Like hyphenation off by default. It not respectful to the end user to require them to go to the forums and see out workarounds for things that are oversights or mistakes by the AI CS+ dev team.

@kris hunt, You misunderstood the request. The request is to Adobe Devs for hyphenation to be set off globally, by default, across the board. The request is not for workaround tips from users.

    Can we get an update?
Nobody wants hyphenation on by default. It’s wrong. It’s anti-user. Not fixing or replying in 6 years is anti-customer.

Adobe team, How about at least a response on this?
    365 votes.
Its #5 in the list of requests.
    Pending since 2017.
Its an on/off default setting in the code.
Probably as simple as changing a 0 to a 1.

If you are extremely attached to hyphenation, your boss forbids you from changing it, or hyphenation-on-default is integrally tied to proper function of the core engine - please let us know. We are all ears.

While Adobe eyes are here: We need some improvements to Illustrator and would like to request better communication from the Illustrator team. We all take time to thoughtfully detail the issues and write in on the forms only to receive mostly silence and inaction.

There has been very little progress in Illustrator for the past 5-6 years. Obviously the big one user are requesting is multithreaded performance, but small QOL improvements such as these would make positive improvements to most designer's workflows:
    -hyphenate off
    -global HSB
    - magic wand tolerance =0 default
    -hex# everywhere
-And the big one for Mac users....ability to filter macOS system fonts: Noto is killing us.

Some of these seem relatively easy to do, but some more complicated as they effect various modules.

But hyphenation......its got to be a simple 0/1 digit of code. The above would be pretty big for many users and we have been asking for years with little to no feedback until now.

Still no response from Adobe concerning this.
The only response I have received on any comment over the past few years was a moderator noting that I also made comments under an old account......Why did he feel it was important to publicly state that my old Adobe account was also me? Of course it was me. I wasnt hiding anything, the timelines didnt overlap (not double posting) nor did I make any unreasonable or rude statements. Its was strange use of effort.

The project request has been "added to backlog" since 2018. What's happening. Its voted 6th most requested by users. Two places lower than "make illustrator multi-threaded".

Nobody wants default hyphenation. Please provide an update to your users.

Adobe Team, How is the exploration going? This is the 11th most requested fix and is going on year 5 of being ignored. Can you provide feedback please? No users want hyphenation on by default. Seems so easy to fix..... why hasn't anyone responded since 2018? Is there an Admin on these forums?

Adobe, This was apparently added to the backlog 3 years ago. It is so easy to do and would be a huge QOL improvement for every user. Can we get some sort of status update or response on this issue please?

Everyone wants hyphenate turned off by default. This request has been open since 2017. Adobe Team, Can you please provide an update? This must be one of the easiest "feature" requests in your queue. It requires changing ONE VARIABLE in the code. That's all. Can you respond please?

We have released the support for Gradient swatches in CC library with our latest release - v29.3

You can select the gradient swatch in swatches panel and add it to CC Library through the button on the bottom bar in the panel. You can also select any object which has gradient applied and add that gradient to CC Library through Add Elements from the Libraries panel and choose Fill Gradient from the drop-down menu.

Please update to this version from your Creative Cloud Desktop application and let us know your feedback.

You are correct - it appeared to be only in my current file immediately after updating. I cant reproduce in new files, but I can cut and paste the "glitched" text box into other files and the hyphenation issue persists. There are no styles applied to the paragraph or characters.
I have attached a test file with a few variables indicating the bug is connected to the text box rather than the content.
Also, since this is fairly minor and I cant reproduce it. I'm happy to shelve the issue for now. Could be a 1/1000+ thing.

Font weight should be immediately accessible in the task bar. Current iteration has poor UI concerning this- see below on UI.

In the task bar's current form the user must scroll to the font they are currently using, click on the tiny arrow to expand the family, then click on the font.

Yes, thats correct - you have to scroll down to the font you are current using if the context bar is positioned in the top 2/3 of the screen.

If the context bar is positioned on the bottom 1/3, the current font appears first in the list, no scrolling required, , BUT if you expand that font to see the family, you need to scroll the list to see the newly expanded selection.

Then click on the tiny tiny arrow to expand the font in order to pick a weight.

Text on a circle: If I adjust the circle(path) in any way; scale or pull a point, the text resets to a default position (defined by AI). Often, I have text inverted along the path with a baseline shift and spacing. That all disappears if I adjust the path. This is clearly a bug as it didnt do this in the past and undo sometimes fails to work properly.

In list view, LACK of color mode marking is the identifying trait of a pattern.

But, in swatch view, there is no way to identify a pattern / accidental flat shape color pattern vs a basic color.

I think that adding a mark on the lower right of the swatch could help. It would be more consistent than lack of a symbol.

    basic color - no symbol

    global - triangle

    spot - triangle + dot

pattern - triangle + slash (or something)

    That makes sense.

Both solutions are cryptic but a symbol on the swatch opens up more room for filenames.

Auto "sort by kind" could help users. Currently, if you sort the swatches by kind it will sort once but then not sort new swatches as they are added. Maybe thats already a request.
