Dear users,
Can you please let us know what is that you cannot do with the existing 'save selection' functionality that you expect to do by grouping objects from different layers?
'Save selection' enables you to combine objects from different layers without having to bring them into one single layer.
To use 'save selection' just select your desired objects and save the selection from the select > save selection menu command or from the bottom of the layers panel.

210 votesThe fix to this problem is pushed into general release 29.6 — but the team needs a confirmation from us, since the nature of the bug is elusive. Please try to see if it still happens or not and comment back. Otherwise the team plans to close this report as resolved.

In the latest versions the chosen option for symbols sticks once you select Static instead of Dynamic ands stays like this for each new symbol we create further: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/32371252

When Real-Time Drawing and Editing feature is turned ON - Objects wit no fill and no stroke become completely invisible when dragging with the Selection tool.
