An error occurred while saving the comment Mike Boruta commentedAs I sit down to export 112 Illustrator CMYK files to RGB jpgs, it sure would be nice if I didn't have to make the following changes in the dialog EVERY SINGLE TIME:
1. Change format from .png to .jpg
2. Select "Use Artboards"
3. Change color model from CMYK to RGB
4. Select "Embed ICC Profile"Like Barry Richards' comment in this thread, this sort of improvement would not be very eye-catching, and may not even be noticed by many, but this is just the sort of stuff that would make my life a lot easier. Just make the last options I chose for the export tool persist so that I don't have to change them every single time. I would take that over any AI-related new feature any day!

An error occurred while saving the comment Mike Boruta commentedEgor - I attached an image to my first post illustrating the use case I need this for (labeling linear features on maps). Did you see that? Basically, imagine doing that a few hundred times on a dense road map and that is my use case summed up.
Sometimes for features with lots of twists and turns I'll just manually draw a path to place the label on. But when possible it is often better to create an offset path that is longer than the length of the text in your label. That way, if you need to adjust your label to accommodate other features all you need to do is slide the label to a different position along the offset path.
I should also note that for labels along straight lines it is also possible to just add the label to the original path and adjust the baseline shift of the type so that the label floats above or below the line. BUT, for curvy lines this does not work and changing the baseline shift will result in adding/shrinking the kerning between letters. So, I've always found it easier to just add a label along an offset path and try and keep the character style the same for one category of label (eg road labels, river labels, trail labels, etc.)
An error occurred while saving the comment Mike Boruta commentedThanks Egor, I actually just bought Toolshed yesterday and cancelled my AG subscription. The AG suite is great, and I tried to incorporate more if its tools into my workflows, but I can't justify the (annual) cost if I'm not using it. And it turns out the Toolshed offset tool works even better for my needs. :)
That said, if Adobe is never going to change this tool they might as well as just name it "Offset Closed Path" because when I first tried using it I was sure that I was doing something wrong or missing some option to offset an open path.

An error occurred while saving the comment Mike Boruta commentedThis issue is still an issue, and a very annoying one if you tend to rely on keyboard shortcuts.
I'm running Illustrator 29.0.1 on MacOS Sequoia 15.1.1 on an M2 Max Studio.
Please fix this bug Adobe. It happens in Photoshop too.Mike Boruta supported this idea · -

Adobe Illustrator's Multithreading Journey Begins!
Dear Illustrator Community,
I'm thrilled to announce that we've embarked on an exciting journey to bring multithreading capabilities to Adobe Illustrator. This significant undertaking will enhance performance and responsiveness across various aspects of the application.
While this is a complex process that will take some time to fully implement, I wanted to share our progress so far.
Our Approach
We've strategically begun by focusing on the most computationally intensive operations—those that typically take more time and block the main thread, resulting in slower response times while you work. By moving these operations to separate threads, we aim to significantly improve your overall experience with Illustrator.
It's important to note that you may see more noticeable impact in some areas than others initially. However, we want to assure you that this is just the beginning, and we will continue this journey to bring improvements across…
An error occurred while saving the comment Mike Boruta commentedMargo Carpenter - as a fellow cartographer and user of Illustrator for about the same amount of time as you, I feel your pain. I have experienced the same sort of scenarios as shown in your video. I keep hoping it will get better but it gets worse and worse! Last year I invested in a new computer, an M2 Max Mac Studio with 96GB of RAM, and that hardware upgrade did nothing to improve my experience with Illustrator. The software does not seem to take advantage of any of my hardware's capabilities. I'm constantly trying to find work arounds to trim my files and make them run more efficiently. The crazy thing is, some of these files are maps that were created 10 years ago, and ran well on much weaker hardware. Now I'm having to remove data layers just so I can work on them. Sometimes when I'm adding text if I make a typo I will just delete the label and start over because using backspace slows everything to a crawl. With the map I'm working on now it takes about 15-20 seconds just to create a new empty layer. And meanwhile, I'm running ArcGIS Pro, on a virtual Windows installation on the same machine, and it can handle massive amounts of data without lag or hiccups. Argh.

The issue is believed to be fixed in the latest Beta build and is expected to be pushed into the Global Availability build at the end of July.
To ensure this indeed fixes the problem, please install the latest Beta build from CCD app and try to reproduce it, following the steps provided by Ton in a comment within the report.
Please reply back if Beta works for you or not.
An error occurred while saving the comment Mike Boruta commentedEgor, thank you for the information regarding the behavior of the saved files. That makes sense, and gives me an insight into why the issue cropped up again on a version of Illustrator that supposedly corrected the error. After fixing the type, and saving the file with 28.7.2, I have not encountered the issue again in the past week. :)
An error occurred while saving the comment Mike Boruta commentedThis insidious issue has been bothering me intermittently lately. I have been using version 28.5, and when I came here looking for help I was pleased to see an "answer" that v 28.6 fixed the issue. Well, it didn't. I just updated to 28.7.2 and it persists. (I cannot update to the newest v29 for work-related reasons. I use a plugin that is still not compatible with v 29).
I created a video demonstrating the problem. Here is a link to view it on YouTube:
https://youtu.be/8aEUd7cB8IQHere is what I demonstrate in the video:
1. I open up a file. On one of the type layers, all my street labels that are text-on-path are not visible.
2. I select all the type objects on that layer, then change their color to magenta.3. I undo the color change and suddenly the labels look as they should.
Is this the same issue everyone else in this thread has?
Is it possible that the issue persists in version 28.7.2 because the file was previously saved with 28.5?

An error occurred while saving the comment Mike Boruta commentedI'm not sure if this will help, but I just discovered a very handy plugin for duplicating objects with one keystroke. It doesn't use the clipboard and very efficiently duplicates whatever you have selected and places it on top. Perhaps you could use this to duplicate your text, and then the arrow keys to move the text?
Here's a link to the plugin:

Hi,
Thanks for the information provided to the Illustrator team.
We are able to reproduce this issue at our end and the engineering team is currently isolating this issue further to get to the root cause. With Best Regards,

An error occurred while saving the comment Mike Boruta commentedThis is happening to me to. It is reproducible. I'm using AI 27.8.1 on M2 Mac with Ventura 13.5.
I open Illustrator, create new blank file, click on the "Color Guide" palette, click on any of the non-default harmony rules, and Illustrator crashes instantly.Mike Boruta supported this idea · -

Hi ,
The bug will be fixed when PS is upgraded to the latest version 22.3.1 . Kindly update PS to 22.3.1 and Bridge to the latest version. If the issue still happens, kindly reset your Settings in both PS and Bridge.

I will have everything synchronized to North America General Purpose 2 and then if I cmd-tab from Photoshop to Illustrator then Illustrator switches the color settings to "Emulate Adobe Illustrator 6.0". I had to switch to an older version of Illustrator in order to keep working without losing my mind.
