Ability to import from Adobe Draw on iPad as a path/line and not a filled shape.
Quite an essential thing to be able to export sketches from Adobe Draw as STROKES (editable paths/lines) instead of a filled shape, which is not readily editable in AI.

I cannot see my file when I open it into Illustrator. The app opens but the file is hidden.
I cannot open my files into Illustrator. I try to open it but the app launches but no file is visible. I try to "Open file…" and it says that it is already opened. I cannot see it. I can only see it if I go to "Arrange" and "Float windows". This is a new issue.

Suppress "Do you want Illustrator to save changes the in xyz.ai before closing" dialogue
Suppress the "Do you want Illustrator to save changes the in xyz.ai before closing" dialogue (or indeed all such questions). If I want to save it first I'll save it first. Please, answering this 'helpful'(stupid) dialogue box question a million times a year is killing me! I'll take my chances that I lose some work one day.

[BUG] xmpMM:DocumentID isn't unique at creation stage
When you create new documents, they all share the same XMP documentID value while you would expect it's unique for every single new document.
Saving the document solves the issue but it means one can't rely on documentID uniqueness while the document isn't saved.
It needs to be unique at the creation stage already.2 votes

Moving as a feature request. We generate an unique value only on file save. When you create a file it inherits all the attributes of the preset it uses. This is the reason you see the same uuid each time you create the document,

wrong asset export folder android
Asset export for android , create sub-folder create folder 1x, 2x, 3x... which is for iOS . it should be drawable-xxxhdpi sub-folder following android guideline.

Asset export has a feature to create folders on scale factors. The suffix that you are expecting as part of the foldername is not built. I am moving this as a feature request.

Return / make optional ability to indicate subfolders in artboard name / path
In previous versions it was possible to make name of artboard as "folder/subfolder/artboardname" and while export it would reproduce whole hierarchy of subfolders.
It was super nice for organizing assets.
Now it saves file in base directory and replaces "/" with "-".
Maybe we can put this option to settings so that people may continue to use it.2 votes -

Preview for file name with prefix and suffix when exporting for screens
I have three requests about Prefix for filenames -
1. Move it to a more prominent area where it's visible. Sometimes it's pre-populated because of previous exports, but since it's too small and not located anywhere around the artboards, it's very easy to miss it and end up with wrong file names.
2. Make it bigger. Most prefixes have at least two words and the current input doesn't accommodate it. I have to manually scroll through the complete thing with the keyboard. Not very useful.
3. Show a preview of complete file name(s) including prefix and suffix. Right now there's…2 votes -
Save recovery data unless file is over *** MB...
Love that AI now saves recovery data. However, half the time I'm turning it off because I'm working on a large file that takes a good amount of time to save. It would be nice if I could set a threshold for this feature - or better yet, have the time variable based on the file size. E.G. If I set saving every 5 minutes it will automatically extend that time as the file size grows larger, so say a 300MB file would save every 15 mins, etc..

Auto-trace PSDs separately by group/layer
Transfer/convert Photoshop documents via auto-trace to illustrator vector shapes while retaining general group/layer hierarchy. Any shape layers in PSD should be converted to Illustrator shapes.
Example: Sketch a new puppet for Character Animator in Photoshop, open the PSD in Illustrator, use auto-trace to convert each layer separately, maintaining relative group/layer hierarchy. Clean up vector paths, use Illustrator puppet in Character Animator at any scale.

import splines from 3D
Exporting for 3D as splines requires Illustrator 8 format
It would be great to have a set of controls, a palette of parameters, or an automated 'wizard' walk-through of selections to control how vector lines translate as splines.
Similarly, toolset for importing splines would be cool
Including: Bezier, Cubic, Uniform, etc point interpolation

Artboard preview in Save dialog
In the theme of "recognition over recall," it would be great if the Save dialog allowed you to preview artboards the way the Print dialog does. When I'm working fast I don't always remember to stop and jot down the numbers of the specific artboards I need to export, and it's annoying to have to exit the save dialog, find the numbers, go back to the save dialog, repeat any necessary steps such as setting file name and location, THEN enter my desired artboard number(s) before moving forward. Exporting Slices
Exporting slices should not force the creation of an "images" folder. I need to be able to export a slice and save it/overwrite to a folder of my choosing, exactly like a standard Save As. Currently, Illustrator will create and nest an images folder every single time....what a waste.

Set the default EPS version with options
I work often in projects with collaborators from all over the world. We save our work in EPS and we have standardized on CS5. We are generally scientists, so we are most likely an exception; however, a way to set "project specific" defaults would be helpful that would allow to set the EPS save options.

Multiple Artboard Save
Some older versions of AI does not show multiple artboards. When doing a save could there be the option for artboards like when SVG is selected.

UNSAVED DOCUMENT ASTERISK - *
Sometimes we need to know if we changed a document, or if something moved without us realizing it. And the only way to know is to look at that tiny asterisk next to the document file name to see if it was modified.
My idea is to make that asterisk a little bit bigger, so people can easily spot it. I am attaching a screenshot with a rough concept.

A View Only Capability after free trial ends
It's basically a "view only" section for students after their trial has expired who have already created items in Illustrator and have to double check something or just review what they've already created esp. those who may not be able to afford the full version of Illustrator.
It'd be nice to have a "view only" section after students' free trials expire. Example: some softwares have a "read only" section where students can't edit work, but they can at least view it.

Unless I'm missing something, please export graphics to the exact same dimensions they were designed to be. Do not add arbitary padding.
In all good conscience I feel like I absolutely have to be missing something here. But time and time again, upon exporting some UI graphics from AI, they turn out to be wider and taller than they were designed to be. Is this padding arbitrary? How was it even determined that these pixels would be added to the exported assets? Am I truly missing something?
I mocked something up in XD, but after creating a few UI elements it was apparent that XD is nowhere near up to the task for making full-fledged graphics. No biggie, I was a little…

When exporting png files with 300 ppi, keep the actual size of the canvas
Hello, it would be great if you export a canvas of z. For example, 100x100px can set the ppi resolution to 300 while the exported png is still exactly 100x100px. for the creation of tile sets that would be very good and would save me many hours of work. In addition, the pngs would also have a color profile, which is unfortunately not the case at the moment. Thank you

Illustrator Reader / Viewer program
I would love to see an Illustrator reader like Acrobat has an editor program and a reader program.
The acrobat reader has the ability to edit text and fill in forms. It would be great to have a similar reader program for Illustrator that could edit text in a design so that a customer who doesn't have illustrator could still edit just the text if the designer wants to give them this option. It should have the ability to change text whilst keeping the text design (with shadows, colours, font type etc).
