Improve thumbnail functionality and allow them to be turned off in Pattern Maker Window
While layers, groups, and paths offer you the ability to shut off thumbnails, Pattern Maker does not. As it is a live preview of what you're currently editing, it can slow things down quite drastically, even to select 1 item in the swatch with complex patterns. Often I have to shutoff layer thumbnails since they rerender the thumb for every revision, and would like the same functionality for Pattern Maker. Swatch thumbnails don't seem to be an issue and it would appear they only update once the changes are saved. Since there are many options for bricking, and tiling, it's actually easier to simply zoom out if you're looking to see how your pattern tiles, the thumbnail is often poor reference to identify complex patterns.

Drag .otf or .ttf file into illustrator and it appears as a lorum ipsum text box on your artboard
Not sure if this is possible but how great would it be if you could drag a .otf or .ttf file (font) into illustrator and it automatically processed as a lorum ipsum text box.

Tool for understanding storage size (bytes in file/memory) of single object or group of ojbects in document
Often Illustrator file size have very large size. And Illustrator interface at now provide no ways for understand, which objects englarge file size, and how to reduce the size.
Main question is for embedded objects (pixel images) - before embedding we can see file size, but after embedding - fields in panel becomes empty! Why?
So, please fix, at first, showing info about embedded images in Links panel, and next - create some tool for review size of currently selected group of objects.

Would like to be able to entries in the Appearance Panel and perform Pathfinder functions to them. .
Example: Select 2 strokes in the appearance panel, one transformed some distance from the other, and apply the pathfinder Unite function (Fx) and have them become functionally one entry on one layer of the selected object.. This could eliminate some what are sometimes complicated procedures when outputting files to various RIP/machines/printers.
2 votesYou can group objects first and then apply an additional stroke to this group using the Appearance panel

"Masking" as a live effect
I think it would be very useful to have a Mask live effect, so that individual fills/strokes in the appearance panel could be masked. The actual mask could come from a specific layer/group in the current file, imported from a file on your HD, or from a new type of Mask library.

To implement 'Show in Folder' for all saved or exported documents.
It's same feature like internet browser for newly downloaded items.

marquee zoom
Is marque zoom gone from Illustrator?
Why on earth each update increasingly becomes pain as they keep removing good features.
I bet they've never tried to work with pen tablet. Zoom out with CMD+1 then quickly zoom-in to an tiny icon with Z+select the bit to zoom to.
With marquee tool it used to be dead simple and lighting fast, with the 'new', ****** scrubbing tool we have to wear down the tablet surface in order to zoom to a desired element. Well done Adobe.

artboard size fit
It would be great if Illustrator created a new artboard to fit copy and paste elements - as done when you copy to clipboard and paste in photoshop. It would be helpful when need ing to create multiple illustrator files ( say logo variations, or icons etc) instead of having to manually resize the artboard/page size

Respective Scale (transforming from the center of multiple selected items)
Imagine being able to scale 50 icons up to 125% from their respective centers all at once.
Need an example? Watch the attached clip :)
2 votesThe way to do exactly this is to use Object > Transform > Transform Each dialog.
Using it will scale (or rotate, or move) each selected top-level object separately, from a chosen reference point.

"Place... Show Import Options" check box to be Persistent
When placing a multi page PDF without checking "Show Import Options", Illustrator will almost never place the first page of the PDF document. It more often places the second page, or the last. This is a big problem for us. We are tired of doing the wrong layout over & over. I would recommend that "Show Import Options" checkbox be persistent, and fix the bug that makes Illustrator NOT place the first page of a multi page PDF document if the "Show Import Options" check box is not selected.

crop ratio
In photoshop, you're able to apply ratios that lock the cropping viewframe which you're then able to position over the photo. This would be great for illustrator as well.

Option for "Don't collapse panel"
I never want Layers panel to collapse completely when I enlarge other panels. Other panels are less important to my workflow and I don't mind what they do, but I'd like to have the option to lock open a heavily-used panel so I'm not constantly having to expand it.

Ai Feels Old and Unintuitive Next to New Adobe Products
Illustrator feels old. I find myself trying to do more and more vector work in XD or Photoshop simply because Ai feels like something from the 90s. There is very little consistency in how things work in Ai versus the other adobe apps. Swatches from CC are endlessly frustrating. Too many tools appear to do the same thing slightly differently. The app seems to assume everything will eventually be printed.
I know this is very general, but perhaps a new vector creation tool is needed in the lineup. I've tried Draw and Sketch on the iPad but they also feel lost in the past. What I need is an app that lets me quickly create and manipulate shapes, text, and paths. Ai is just too cumbersome.Illustrator feels old. Resizing multiple Artboards at once for a better Icon-design performance
When creating an icon-set of hundreds of icons at 16px, it would be super convenient to have the option to resize all the artboards for the following sizes (e.g: 24 px, 32px, 48px...). This is so cause when I have created the first file, I have also taken the time to properly name all the artboards so that when I export them, developers can find them with the naming-system that we had already created.
The problem I am facing now with this feature is that I cannot keep the names and so, I need to start over the same process again... which for a couple of artboards is fine but not for such a huge set.
Suggestion: maybe actions here could help or maybe just a shortcut that could copy the previous action within an artboard to the next (something as simple as cmd+D).

Automatically fit windows to screen when unplugging second monitor.
When I'm using a second (big) monitor with my laptop, and I unplug the 2nd monitor, the Illustrator windows remain huge but move to my laptop screen, and it's difficult to resize the windows down to fit. They should automatically detect the screen size and fit accordingly.

Way to change "Custom" Document name
Would love to be able to change this "Custom" name to something more descriptive. I have a few piece of equipment that I would like to be able to select quickly. For now I have to go through the hassle of templates which works well but is several other clicks. Would be nice to have a way to quickly create documents for those specific equipment types with preconfigured settings.

Conditional appearance panel
It would be great if you could use some conditional logic together with appearance panel, and possibility to pick individual characters/words (first/middle/last 1, 2,...characters). And also possibility to combine several styles under one appearance, together with some input panel for user interaction). That would make it possibility to do more repeat things that you now need an action for but instead could use a style. Because actions I have tried tend to have a lot of errors to them, sooner or later. So maybe this could become a more stable option and I can see how this can make Illustrator even more useful.
