improve the 'this file is currently being saved' pop up window
The way this was implemented is stupid.
That pop up window you get when you try to close the window while it's still saving.Why doesn't it automatically go away when the file has finished saving, instead of being persistent for no reason.
Just make it work the same way as indesign with just a cancel button.

color swatch meta fields assignment feature
please add a few extra fields to give greater depth to the swatches
i noticed that you have nicely chosen names like history etc for the theme swatch libraries yet when i go to create a new swatch the panel does not give me the option to attach a meta descriptor tag cloud to the color swatch, think about how this feature works on full images in the bridge. how excellent this would be at the swatch level. we could search for swatches by meta tag, i could see a dedicated program for using a eye dropper tool and assigning…2 votes -

Recent fonts button in character panel
We can disable the recents fonts list in the character panel by making the number of recent fonts 0 in preferences panel. While working it always changes if you need to see recents fonts or not. I suggest to put a "show recent fonts" button the top of the character panel, near the "show recently added", "show activated fonts" buttons. The name of button can be "Show recents fonts". It is that simple. And we again can define the number of recent fonts from preferences panel.

When I go to resize a vector, it rotates it. Bug with latest update.
I think the new update did this. If I work very carefully I can eventually get it to resize.

Allow color coded top layers
Please allow us to color code the top layer/s. For those whom have to work with 30 plus layers the tiny color slice indicator (which is just the color of the selected vector line, not the layer) is not enough. If I could color code the layers it would speed up my job significantly and our company. Thank you!

Align/distribute to angle
It would be so cool if you could align/distribute objects on an angle. Say for example I want to align objects to a 45 degree angle, instead of aligning to the highest/lowest point, or to the left or right.

Nodal Interface for Actions Creation
Similar to 3DCC software and video compositing software, I would like to see a nodal interface where we could add different menu items and specific actions into a tree and have them end in an output node, allowing reuse of specific actions and menu items within the tree in a single action.
I'd also recommend there to be a way to group some of the nodes and be reusable/ able to add them into other action node trees as subgroups. That way some very complicated actions could be recycled instead of always being recreated from scratch.

Renaming Slices for Easier Export
Since slices allow us to optimize to a set file size, we use sliced artboards at work to quickly create/export jpegs for the Google Display Network and for our sites. We've made the process pretty seamless with solid templates, but the only thing we haven't figured out how to do is rename the slices. The default is FileNameSliceNumber, but that slice number doesn't help us see the dimensions at a glance. If in our template we could rename slice "04" to "728x90" or whatever custom descriptor was necessary, we wouldn't need to manually change the slice name when…

Improve resolution of dock panels so they're the same as other Adobe apps
The resolution of the dock panels (Layers, Art boards, Character etc) are all a lot bigger than in other Adobe apps, please make these the same size as the other apps.
I have a second screen with all relevant dock panels opened. If they were the same resolution as PS/ID then more could fit on the screen.1 vote -

Z depth / 3D space for points on path.
I do medical illustration for suture techniques. I use a path with a stroke to illustrate the suture (like a string), which need to overlap and show depth. I add a drop shadow to the path, but it simply goes around the entirety of the path's stroke shape, and doesn't apply above segments of the path which should appear below the higher sections.
There needs to be a z-axis system where I can assign a z-depth to each point on a path, which allows the drop shadow effect to apply to the same path on depths below it.

AI 2020 slow
I am working on a 2017 iMac pro with an 18 core Intel Xeon W processor, 128 GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 memory and a Radeon Pro Vega 64 GPU (16 GB memory). I just (November 5, 2019) updated to AI 2020 and everything is significantly slower than the last version of AI 2019 (yes, GPU enhancement settings are on). I purchased AI CS because it had the GPU enhancement and it was 64-bit allowing me to work with the rather large vector images produced during my data analysis from spacecraft. Choose .pdf magnification seeting in Illustrator not Acrobat
When saving .ai file as .pdf the added option to choose the .pdf magnification at the save as pdf settings stage, instead of having to do this in Acrobat properties.

Gradient Eye Dropper click and drag to analyze the colors under the length of a vector
if i drag my cursor across an image the illustrator program should be able to make an assessment of the various properties of color under the path that was drawn.
this could easily be turned into a pallet with relational distance parameters and a cool gradient tool with a number of samples resolution feature to adjust the density of changes across the gradient would be very welcome in our illustrator tool set.

stroke eye dropper dedicated tool with a simple (shift-alt) brush tool modifier.
In Illustrator when i am working with my drawing tablet , tracing an image, i wanted to quickly change the color of the brush stroke with an eye dropper to click on a background tracing image, then have the tool elegantly switch back to the brush with out having to click on the "tool menu" or the "swatch swapping foreground back ground" button. i became frustrated that this process felt clunky and un-intuitive in the current implementation.

Closing project "x" positioning
Please put the "x" on the project tab either on the left of the, or make all tab widths the same width. This would be valuable because if I want to close multiple open projects, I wouldn't have to jump around with my mouse to try and catch the "x".
