Lock angle of bezier handles (hotkey-selectable)
When drawing with the pen tool, it would be very helpful to be able to lock the angle of the control point handles when drawing the next segment.
The function works well for the existing fixed snap angles (90-deg, etc) but I would love to have a hotkey to temporarily lock the existing (arbitrary) angle of the point as I draw the next segment.
Currently, I find it too easy to destroy a perfectly placed curve while drawing the next segment--particularly when the in- and out- handles have dramatically different lengths.

CID/GID (Character ID/Glyph ID) are displayed in Glyphs panel.
In the case of Japanese, there are many variations of Chinese character, so it is useful to know CID/GID.
Because it does not make a mistake when designing character. Also, I want CID/GID when using many old characters.
A common UI with InDesign is desirable.(Translated to Japanese)

JSON for ExtendScript
JSON is a standard JavaScript data format. Considering how close ExtendScript is to JavaScript it is very baffling that common functions like JSON.parse and JSON.stringify are not supported.
Support for JSON would be very appreciated.

Move Hidden Layers with Parent
I can't Move Hidden layers, groups, and objects if they are part of a group. Even if I click the targe icon, nothing hidden selects.
Sincerest apologies to those familiar with the workflow in Illustrator but coming from photoshop it is mind-boggling that a Parent object does not move its children along with it just because they are invisible.
Photoshop handles this exactly as one would expect and moves hidden items. Just because I can't see it doesn't also mean that it behaves as if locked.Context: when building a character for Character Animator a very complex grouping structure exists for every part of the body, and then those parts are duplicated for left and right profiles, and for whatever other body positions are needed.
Making everything visible to move these complex groups and then turning them all off again to make new art is extremely time-consuming and prone to error over the number of layers that will be turning on and off in Ch.Am I completely wrong? If so please show me a better way.
Thanks in advance for the time...

Provide SVG output scaling option (with 96 ppi default)
When using Save As... SVG, Illustrator sets the bounding box pixel dimensions in the SVG header using 72 pixels per inch. So a 10" x 10" artboard will produce an SVG file with its pixel dimensions set to 720px x 720px. This is a very old-fashioned default scaling, since every other modern application I have encountered displays imported SVGs using 96 dpi . This means each SVG produced by Illustrator appears to shrink when imported into almost any other modern application. Please either:
a) Change Illustrator's default scaling calculation to use 96 dpi.
b) Provide an option/switch in the SVG Options window to allow selection of the scaling method - with the default set to 96!When using Save As... Illustrator 2019 Freeform Gradient and compound paths not quite right
When applying a freeform grad to a compound path, the effect struggles to jump a gap between paths, leaving odd results. If you create a path with a "hole" in the middle and create grad its OK. Move the whole fully out of the enclosing shape and its blank, move back into to cross border line and it works correctly with overlap creating hole.
In the attached file, the four squares are a compound path. Top right shows standard linear gradient covering the whole shape. The top left fort squares are supposed to share a freeform grad copied from the shape below. This results in one green square and three white, which if you move sometimes loses the green too!

Metadata enhancements for artboard to invidual file (save/export)
Wish - Metadata enhancements
1) Document level metadata to be exported and added when artboards are exported as individual files
2) Ability to add overrides at artboard level for metadata, which on export is carried forward into the individual files generatedScenario:
I often create a series of images by using arboards, as they are related and worked on as a mini-project (e.g. series of icons, part of online learning story-boards, series of progressive diagrams etc.). I export these for use by individual staff, who use graphics in PowerPoint, Word, LMS, InDesign projects etc.
Note: InDesign docs are converted to PDF and posted online and images must contain metadata (WCAG 2.0 requirement), which is easiest sourced from XMP using an Object style applied to the graphics etc.
IOW: Metadata is always required to travel with all graphics so it's easily retrieved at any stage when an image is used. e.g. for copyright info, description (used for Alt-text), Title (used for Title/hover text), Credit Lines etc.Current Issue:
* I add metadata at document level (File > File Info) that would be 'global'.
* When I export artboards (Export > Export for Screens) to individual graphics: all the metadata is stripped and I have to manually add it again to each graphic.
That's OK if you export artboards only once... BUT when you go through a change process, I find myself repeatedly copying and pasting metadata from the host file (AI).Feature Request:
(1) Please add the metadata that's added at File level (File > File Info), to exported individual graphics (regardless of file format used for export)
(2) Additional feature request: The ability to override certain global metadata fields, e.g. I might export 6 maps of Australia, each with different state highlighted, I'd have certain global metadata fields (entered through File Info), but would want to edit some at artboard level to indicate WHICH state is highlighted.Wish - Metadata enhancements

Additional Scripts Folder in Preferences
In the Preferences we have the ability to define an "Additional Plug-ins Folder" and that will really useful to have the same option for Scripts, specially in enterprise where you don't have the admin right.
Plus, that will allow to easily disable the Scripts if needed.13 votes -

Make ripple Artboard tool in Illustrator
As someone who uses Illustrator to design much of my artwork for animation in After Effects there's one tool that I find I constantly need and instead just muddle through manually cutting, copying and pasting.
It'd be great to have a tool in AI that would insert a new Artboard between say frames 9 and 10, and then move all the artwork from frame 10 on up to the next artboards (frames 11, 12, 13, 14, etc.) I think of like a ripple edit tool. You can insert or delete a frame (artboard) and the artwork on all the artboards following your edit moves to fill the gap. It'd be great for working on sequential art where you constantly need to create a new frame in between existing artwork and then need to shuffle all the following artwork back or forward to keep it in sequence.
Thanks!

Multi page pdf import - need option to distribute artboards
Here is the comparison of Importing 300 pages pdf vs creating same 300 pages via new document dialogue. Are we still in the same product?
Expected .Distributing the artboards evenly or even giving options to distribute artboards during pdf import.

Circles in Illustrator are not accurate
The circles in Illustrator are flawed and here's why.
I discovered a major bug in Illustrator CC. The circles in Illustrator are not accurate. This is the case regardless of whether you use the ellipse tool or the arc tool. Make a circle. Check the dimensions to make sure it's accurate. Draw a radius line at 0º. Copy it 3 times and rotate the copies 90º,180º and 270º. When all of the copied lines are put on the center of the circle, they all touch the inner edge of the circle perfectly. However, Copy the 0º line and rotate it 45º. Put it on the center of the circle. It doesn't touch the inner edge of the circle. Copy the 0º line and rotate it 18º. Put it on the center of the circle. It’s even farther away from the inner edge of the circle. The circle is flawed.
Here is another way to see that the circles are not accurate. Make a hollow circle. Copy it and change the color of it's line. Rotate the copy 18º. Put it onto the original circle. They do not line up accurately. I spent an hour with an Illustrator expert while he had control of my computer through the support portal. He came to the same conclusion as i did. For some reason the circles in Illustrator are not perfect. He has spoken to his superiors and they are giving this issue priority. They were very happy that i told them about this and will hopefully solve the problem. For those of us that must have perfect geometry in our work, this is a very important issue. The circles in Illustrator are flawed and here's why.

Add persistent Swatch libraries to Workspace settings + maintained across upgrades
Allow swatch libraries selected as persistent to be stored as part of a workspace (including palette group & position), and make them persistent across upgrades. I'm tired of having to recreate my palettes every **** time there's some minor 'agile' upgrade.

Non-uniform scale tool by angle
Using available AI tools I have to twist and dance to perform non-uniform scale by angle.
Right now I have to do this:
1. Rotate path to make in straight oriented (it's not an default ellipse, it's manually traced path)
2. Reset bounding box
3. Rotate path backwards
4. Turn on bounding box (I work with it turned off)
5. Scale using bounding box at angleIf I use Scale tool instead, and set point to a center,
AI will scale path uniformly ONLY.
What a stupidity is this? I even remember custom plugin tool that allowed desired action, but it doesn't work for a long time.Using available AI tools I have to twist and dance to perform non-uniform scale by angle.

Properties panel lacks properties
CC 2018. Please include ALL properties for the selected object. Selecting a stroke should show ALL stroke properties (including cap, corner, dashed line etc).
And please don't put stuff behind the ellipsis icon (additional properties). Some of the additional properties menus duplicate the stuff in the panel itself, or don't even work.
If you want to make properties show by context, you need to make the dedicated panels obsolete!

Slug
As part of my daily workflow, all my art has to have a slug, when i put all the information about the file, date, time, user, CMYK and spot colors used, company logo, etc.
Editable and complete slug option will be appreciated, see attached an example of my manual slug, i use in conjunction with a plugin which puts date time, the user, etc automatically, but i don't like plugins, I want part of the Adobe illustrator Software.
See attached an example

Loaded eyedropper just like in InDesign
I wish the eye dropper behaved more like it does in InDesign: If you pick up a type style, you "keep" that style and can apply it to several different text boxes. so if you have a text box with 4 subheads and body copy after each and you want to change all of the subheads to match the first one that you've changed, you could click on the desired style, and then click-drag over each of the subheads carrying the same style to each
