1. Can’t change a gradient stop from swatches

   There is a bug that stops you from changing the colour in a gradient stop from your swatches. The only way to get around it is to use the eye dropper tool. This is a must fix and has been missed on multiple updates recently!

2. Typing a new font size for a dimension in Properties moves the text caret at the first position after entering the first digit

   After annotating the graphic dimensions, when changing the annotation font size, focusing the input box and entering 50 results in the number 05, which is incorrect.

3. Dragging and rearranging several objects at once in Layers is broken when a filter is applied

   As documented in other reports, this remains broken. It may work ONCE, based on no discernible pattern, but never again in dozens of tries.

   This afflicts both platforms.

4. SVG output is wrong size

   I have to create SVG files for work, and they MUST have specific dimensions. I've been using Ai 2023 with zero problems. When I "View SVG Code" the width, height, and viewBox values are all correctly set to the size of the artboard.

   I've been avoiding upgrading for obvious reasons, but the other day I decided to try out Ai 2026. Thank GOD I installed a new instance and kept 2023! I had to generate an SVG and the size is WRONG. It appears to be using the OBJECT size, not the ARTBOARD size as it should.

   I tried changing CSS Properties, the only one that produces the CORRECT dimensions is "Style Attributes (Entity References) -- WHICH WILL BE REMOVED IN THE FUTURE.

   I'm on Windows 10, in case that matters.

   Attached are text files with code produced, and screenshots of the options.

6. Text changes colour at random

   A file appears correct in Illustrator 2026 and correctly produces a PDF (save a copy) when the original Illustrator file is still open. Yet when the Illustrator file is then saved, closed and then reopened, the Illustrator file has errors with the colour of text changing at random. This is happening on multiple computers running MacOS (Silicon). This error only happens in Illustrator 2026 and not 2025.

   The text that changes varies, even within one document. Sometimes it is a single piece of text that changes, sometimes it is all of the text. The colour it changes to is random, ie sometimes black, sometimes a spot PANTONE colour, sometimes a process colour swatch.

   We have also had other weird things happen such as a PDF appearing incorrectly in Acrobat but when opening that same PDF back in Illustrator, the colours appear as they should.

   We tried to find specific circumstances for when text changes colour but could not. A file that was getting corrupted 30 minutes ago, failed to be corrupted when we tried the same things later. The only consistent feature is that it is Illustrator 2026 and not any other version of Illustrator.

   Hello,

   I would like to report an issue in Adobe Illustrator that seems to have been introduced in recent updates.

   Initial situation:
   When opening a PDF that was not saved with Illustrator editing capabilities, it is expected that continuous text blocks are split into multiple individual segments or lines. This behavior is known and not the issue.

   Previous behavior:
   Until a few updates ago, it was possible to select such a fragmented text block, copy it, and paste it into a newly created text field. The text was inserted as a single line, but the content order was correct (top to bottom). The only required step was manually restoring line breaks or paragraphs.

   Current behavior (issue):
   Since recent updates, the order of the pasted text segments is no longer correct.
   When copying and pasting a fragmented text block, Illustrator still merges everything into a single line, but the sequence of the content is incorrect.

   Based on observation, Illustrator no longer follows the visual reading order (top to bottom). Instead, it appears to process segments in a reversed or otherwise incorrect internal order (e.g. partially bottom to top).

   Impact:
   This makes the pasted text unusable without extensive manual correction. It is no longer sufficient to reinsert line breaks. Instead, the content must be manually reordered, which is error-prone and time-consuming. In many cases, it is faster to retype the text entirely.

   Example:
   A text block selected from top to bottom (starting with
   “entalkoholisierter Chardonnay”
   and ending with
   “… Anbau”)

   is pasted beginning with a lower segment such as
   “*aus kontrolliert biologischem …”
   followed by lines that originally appeared above it.
   This indicates that the segments are no longer processed in visual reading order.

   This issue did not occur in previous Illustrator versions using the same workflow.

8. Artboard Names changes revert if names are tabbed between.

   When updating multiple artboard names via the Artboards Panel, pressing Tab advances to the next artboard name. However, if multiple artboard names are changed this way, and the changes are reflected in the panel, these changes are not reflected in the export artboards panel, and clicking in to edit any artboard name again causes them all to revert to their previous names.

   4. A file with 110 artboards, each 263mm wide by 359mm high and filled entirely with text, causes extremely high memory usage. Copying and pasting operations are sluggish. We request optimization on overall memory consumption, including per-software memory footprint, memory usage when creating a new artboard, memory usage for text-only artboards, and general performance improvements.

10. Illustrator 30.3+ silently substitutes installed fonts without reporting them missing (prepress risk on macOS)

    This is reproducible with a single existing AI file by opening it in 30.2.1 and then opening the identical file in 30.3+ on the same Mac without changing any fonts.

    Starting with Illustrator 30.3 on macOS, Illustrator silently renders some installed fonts as Myriad while continuing to report "Missing Fonts: 0." This creates a serious prepress issue because converting text to outlines permanently outlines the wrong font with no warning.

    I am using Monotype Connect Fonts to manage fonts.

    Versions tested on the same Mac with the same AI file and same font environment:

    29.8.10 - WORKS CORRECTLY
    30.2 - WORKS CORRECTLY
    30.2.1 - WORKS CORRECTLY
    30.3 - FAILS
    30.4 - FAILS
    30.6 - FAILS
    30.8 - FAILS

    Steps to reproduce:

    Open an existing Illustrator file containing text using Book Antiqua.
    Open the file in Illustrator 30.3 or newer.
    Observe the text using Book Antiqua.
    Open Type > Find/Replace Font.

    Expected result:

    Book Antiqua should render correctly. If Illustrator cannot access or resolve the font, Illustrator should report the font as missing and provide a missing-font warning.

    Actual result:

    The document continues to list Book Antiqua in Find/Replace Font and reports "Missing Fonts: 0."

    However, the text is visibly rendered as Myriad instead of Book Antiqua.

    There is no missing-font dialog or substituted-font warning.

    Opening the identical file in Illustrator 30.2.1 immediately renders Book Antiqua correctly without making any changes to the document or font installation.

    This is a serious production issue, not simply a font-preview inconvenience.

    In a normal print-production workflow, I select the artwork and use Type > Create Outlines before creating the press PDF. Illustrator 30.3 and later will create outlines from the incorrectly substituted Myriad text. At that point the substitution becomes permanent vector artwork and there is nothing for a PDF preflight or the printer to identify as a missing font.

    This could therefore result in an incorrectly typeset job being printed without Illustrator ever warning the operator that a font was not being rendered correctly.

    The behaviour begins specifically with Illustrator 30.3. Illustrator 30.2.1 and earlier tested versions render the same font correctly on the same Mac.

    This appears potentially related to the font-handling changes introduced in Illustrator 30.3. Unlike previously reported issues involving Typeface auto-activation, this occurs in a Monotype Fonts production environment and can result in silent font substitution during press preparation.

11. Illustrator 2026 embeds each duplicate bitmap image separately in PDFs, causing extremely large files

    Mac Studio M2 Ultra, Tahoe 26.5.1

    Illustrator 2026 embeds duplicate instances of the same bitmap separately when saving a PDF, causing the PDF size to increase with every duplicate.

    To test this, I used one 2000 × 2000 PNG file that is 7.5 MB. I placed it once, duplicated the placed object a total of 9 times, and saved the same layout as a PDF using comparable settings in Illustrator 2025, Illustrator 2026, and InDesign 2026.

    Results:

    Illustrator 2025 version 29.8, Adobe PDF Library 17: 8 MB
    Illustrator 2026 version 30.3, Adobe PDF Library 18: 71 MB
    InDesign 2026 version 21.4, Adobe PDF Library 18: 7.9 MB

    Illustrator 2025 and InDesign 2026 appear to embed the bitmap once and reuse it for the duplicate placements. Illustrator 2026 appears to embed the bitmap data separately for each duplicate instance.

    The InDesign result shows that Adobe PDF Library 18 can produce an efficient PDF from the same duplicated bitmap layout. This points to a regression in Illustrator 2026 or Illustrator 2026’s integration with PDF Library 18, rather than a general limitation of PDF Library 18.

    Expected result: Illustrator should embed each unique bitmap once and reference that image for all duplicate placements, as Illustrator 2025 does.

    Actual result: Illustrator 2026 creates a PDF many times larger because each duplicate bitmap instance appears to be embedded separately.

12. ESC key not exiting text editing and isolation modes in Illustrator 2025 on macOS and PC

    On macOS (latest version), ESC key does not exit text editing mode in Illustrator 2025 as it used to in previous versions.
    Resetting preferences and keyboard shortcuts does not fix it. I created a new action to perform the exit task temporarily.
    Expected behavior: ESC should exit text mode.

13. Extremely Sluggish after Using Edit Toolbar

    Picking any tool from Edit Toolbar will bring Illustrator to a crawl. Popups become unresponsive for around 5 seconds. If I start Illustrator while holding down Shift Ctrl Alt, it works great - but only when I do so. If I don't, it's back to being slow. Running Illustrator as an Administrator also makes it run great.

14. Illustrator 2026 Eyedropper Leaves Previous Fill Color Hidden in Nested Objects

    In Illustrator 2026, the Eyedropper tool sometimes applies the sampled appearance to the selected group/subgroup level instead of replacing the actual appearance of the underlying object.

    This creates a dangerous prepress issue: the object visually appears recolored, but the previous fill color remains inside the nested object structure. The old color does not appear as a separate duplicated object when ungrouping. It only becomes visible after entering isolation mode several levels deep. If that internal element/fill is deleted, the entire object disappears, which confirms it is not a duplicate object but the original object retaining its previous appearance.

    Expected behavior: the Eyedropper should copy and apply the selected appearance as it did in Illustrator 2025, replacing the object’s actual appearance without leaving the previous color hidden inside nested groups.

    Actual behavior: Illustrator 2026 sometimes stacks the new appearance above the object/group while preserving the previous internal fill, causing incorrect color separations and a high risk of production errors in packaging/prepress workflows.

    I'm a very experienced user. This started on Illustrator 2026. 2025-2024 were OK.

15. Revert text on paths back to how it used to be

    Fitting text to paths used to be a simple process whereby you could easily create a path from a shape, by slicing the object and creating an open ended path, (or draw one), selecting Text to path from the pull out menu on the text tool, typing and arranging text on the path and being able to adjust whether it was to appear on the top or bottom of the path, just by dragging the centre line. (All without having to go to multiple other menus/instruction boxes). I would suggest it wasn't broken, so why was it 'fixed'?

16. SVG files won't open in Illustrator 2026. Works in earlier versions (tested in 2024)

    SVG files won't open in Illustrator 2026. I can open them in Illustrator 2024, and paste them into 2026. But opening the file in 2026 results in a totally blank artboard. Perhaps the parse is broken? Something got worse between these versions...

17. Freeform Gradient fails to apply / disappears on existing objects

    I have a problem with the Freeform Gradient tool in Illustrator. When I apply it — whether in linear (lines) or points mode — the fill appears empty, the gradient never actually applies. It's even affecting other objects that already had this type of gradient applied in previous documents; when I open them in Illustrator and try to copy or move them, the gradient disappears and the shape turns transparent.

18. The preview is incorrect because some images are missing

    Ever since at least Illustrator version 29.8.5, I've been having preview issues with linked images. Some images are missing from my preview.

    I tested it in Illustrator 30.3, and the problem persists.

19. Hidden Characters remain visible when exporting in PNG

    Windows 11 Pro Version 25H2

    I work with Hidden Characters on, and when I export a PNG (export for Screens), they remain visible. Hidden Characters aren't supposed to remain visible after a PNG export. The only way that I could resolve the issue is to turn them off. But when I try to disable hidden characters, it looks like they are already off (even though I can still see them), and I have to turn them on, then off again, to make sure they are completely disabled.

20. Action shortcuts lost when saving, deleting existing, and adding back to action panel.

    MACOS Tahoe 26.5.2, Illustrator 30.6

    I deleted my personal action set from the actions panel, and when I re-imported them the (extensive) set of shortcuts were missing. No shortcuts were added. Using version history I re-added a saved set from a few days ago, and it only brought in some of the shortcuts that were saved with the set at the time. I frequently save/delete/add my actions because they change based upon the job at hand and I run out of F keys. I have never had an issue with lost shortcuts until today.
