1. Thumbnails glitching when saved

   Randomly, when files and thumbnails are saved out of Illustrator, the resulting thumbnails are glitched in a variety of ways. This glitch is present in the preview in the Finder window, but upon opening the file again, the glitch is not present. This is not from appearances or overprint being applied to artwork elements, as we are familiar with the issues those settings present in a print production environment, and this is a separate issue.

   • Running on a MacBook Pro, 2021, running Sequoia 15.0.
   • Using Illustrator 30.0.
   • The issue occurs when Illustrator saves a file or thumbnail, randomly, without any indicators that it's going to happen.
   • The preview of the file and the thumbnails of the file should match exactly how the file appears in Illustrator, but the saved -preview and thumbnails appear glitched in some way.

   A) In the orange file example, the file is saved exactly as shown in screenshot A1. The thumbnail and preview of the file were saved with elements duplicated and scaled differently from the actual file and how the actual file appears when reopened—screenshot A2 and A3. I do not have the original file with the issue to attach.

   B) In the Super Collagen file, the file was saved exactly as shown in screenshot B1. The thumbnail and preview of the file were saved with multiple elements missing and without the background elements—screenshot B2.

   C) In the Smooth Current Serum file, the file was saved exactly as shown in screenshot C1. The thumbnail and preview of the file were saved with a previous version of the "SMOOTH" text overlapping the actual text in the artwork. This old version had 3 "O's" in the text, but was DELETED/removed from the file. Yet it saved over top of the corrected version in the thumbnail and preview, even though this "SMOOOTH" text had been deleted PRIOR to saving the file.

   These issues cause huge problems in a production environment when the thumbnails are used for proofing and the software saving out the thumbnails cannot be trusted to accurately represent the artwork. I have screenshots and files for about 15 additional documented instances of this thumbnail/preview glitch occurring.

   Everyone - we want some more information about this issue.

   Is any export (PNG) done from Illustrator for any such (glitched preview) files showing the same thumbnail issue or not?

   Or, is the issue happening only with the thumbnail of the file as seen in the Mac / Win folder preview or while placing into another application?

   I would like to report an issue in Adobe Illustrator that seems to have been introduced in recent updates.

   Initial situation:
   When opening a PDF that was not saved with Illustrator editing capabilities, it is expected that continuous text blocks are split into multiple individual segments or lines. This behavior is known and not the issue.

   Previous behavior:
   Until a few updates ago, it was possible to select such a fragmented text block, copy it, and paste it into a newly created text field. The text was inserted as a single line, but the content order was correct (top to bottom). The only required step was manually restoring line breaks or paragraphs.

   Current behavior (issue):
   Since recent updates, the order of the pasted text segments is no longer correct.
   When copying and pasting a fragmented text block, Illustrator still merges everything into a single line, but the sequence of the content is incorrect.

   Based on observation, Illustrator no longer follows the visual reading order (top to bottom). Instead, it appears to process segments in a reversed or otherwise incorrect internal order (e.g. partially bottom to top).

   Impact:
   This makes the pasted text unusable without extensive manual correction. It is no longer sufficient to reinsert line breaks. Instead, the content must be manually reordered, which is error-prone and time-consuming. In many cases, it is faster to retype the text entirely.

   Example:
   A text block selected from top to bottom (starting with
   “entalkoholisierter Chardonnay”
   and ending with
   “… Anbau”)

   is pasted beginning with a lower segment such as
   “*aus kontrolliert biologischem …”
   followed by lines that originally appeared above it.
   This indicates that the segments are no longer processed in visual reading order.

   This issue did not occur in previous Illustrator versions using the same workflow.

3. ESC key not exiting text editing and isolation modes in Illustrator 2025 on macOS and PC

   On macOS (latest version), ESC key does not exit text editing mode in Illustrator 2025 as it used to in previous versions.
   Resetting preferences and keyboard shortcuts does not fix it. I created a new action to perform the exit task temporarily.
   Expected behavior: ESC should exit text mode.

4. SVG files won't open in Illustrator 2026. Works in earlier versions (tested in 2024)

   SVG files won't open in Illustrator 2026. I can open them in Illustrator 2024, and paste them into 2026. But opening the file in 2026 results in a totally blank artboard. Perhaps the parse is broken? Something got worse between these versions...

5. Illustrator 30.3 Font Handling Issue

   The new 30.3 update for Mac introduced "improved font handling in Illustrator (macOS) for better consistency and reduced reliance on unsupported system resources"

   However, this seems to have broken auto font activation with the Typeface font manager.

   Is there a way to get this fixed?

6. Script selection/appearance modification causes error 8702

   I am using a script to change the appearance of an object (fill color of an ellipse shape). Since there is no way to access appearance properties directly (which would be lovely to get someday), I am using a known workaround with defaultFillColor on the selected document.

   app.activeDocument.selection = [item.obj];
   app.activeDocument.defaultFillColor = item.newCol;
   

   Unfortunately, the selection seems to leave Illustrator in a weird state, and any further script command (e.g. next iteration of the loop) fails with "Error 8702: there is no active document."

   This sometimes goes away if I use CPU instead of GPU preview, though not reliably. And the error is not thrown if there is no update to the fill color (i.e. the object already had the correct color).

   This is on version 30.2.1 and macOS 26.3 on apple silicon. I was successfully using the same script for years prior to a few weeks ago, so this might be a recent change. I also tested the latest Illustrator beta, and the error is still there.

   I am happy to share the script and illustrator file that trigger the error if needed.

7. Using Image Trace with specific settings generates large black blob made of gigantic black circles

   Image Trace yields a black blob when adjusting the settings now. For instance, it renders a details drawing into a clump when changing the settings to have 1% for the corners slider. This bug is in AI 2026 only.

8. Images and Shadows Not Rendering Correctly

   I am having issues with build 29.8.2.
   When I link photos to my artboards and add drop shadows to shapes or objects, the display is not rendering them. It will show them, but if I move or zoom out, sometimes they go away. And if I export my artboards, these issues carry over. The images dont export, there is just a grey circle where that masked image is supposed to be. And shadows from one object to the next are different, just not even there. How can I fix this?

9. Exporting To SVG Format

   Illustrator 30.2.1 has a consistent SVG exporting bug. I created some images containing gradients. When I export to SVG the first time, AI will create a correct SVG file. However, subsequent exports, AI will leave out all gradients. If I close the file and reopen it, the cycle repeats.

10. Transparency mask bugs with "Gaussian Blur" effect applied inside the mask

    I've got an object with a transparency mask applied which contains a "Gaussian Blur" effect, when I want to align it with the Properties panel"(copy of the first object - pasted on second object), the effects change totally (I need to change the blur from 80 to 30 to have nearly the same effect.

11. Visual glitch in modified text when using the “Transform” tool

    When using the “Transform” effect on complex files, the visual display of the actual text does not update. The visual display is not up to date, whereas in the source code (CMD+Y) it is. To update the text visually, you must uncheck the “Transformation” option in the Appearance window, then check it again to force the visual update.

    As shown in the attached files, the black-and-white one shows the wired version (with the correct text), and the other shows the standard view (with the text that hasn't been updated)

13. Gradient across stroke, inside opacity mask is thresholded for half the width of the stroke

    Applying a black-to-white gradient across a stroke inside an opacity mask results in a portion of the opacity mask not being applied, corresponding to half the width of the stroke, almost as if it is clipped by the stroke. If the path is subsequently outlined, which creates a mesh, the behavior is the same. If the object is a filled bezier curve, the behavior is normal with the shape masked as expected.

17. Scroll wheel is very slow and unresponsive in Adobe Illustrator 30.0

    This occurs even when "Enable missing glyph protection" is initially set to OFF and no other settings are changed.

19. Strange loops and spikes when using pressure-sensitive brushes with XP-Pen Tablet on Illustrator 29.3 and newer on Windows 11

    An employee directed me to this forum to explain my problem (I explained everything here: https://community.adobe.com/questions-652/inconsistent-strokes-when-using-pressure-sensitive-brushes-with-xp-pen-tablet-illustrator-30-2-1-windows-11-1553544)

    My system:
    Windows 11, Version 25H2 (Windows Ink is deactivated, tried with activated too).
    Old tablet: Artist 12 Pro (XP-Pen)
    New tablet: XP-Pen Deco Pro MW
    I tried all available Illustrator versions (I will explain later).

    I am getting very weird and inconsistent strokes when drawing with a tablet and the Blob Brush Tool (please see screenshot and video attached EDIT: video too big pls see the article from the other forum, the video is posted there).

    I did a ton of troubleshooting (new drivers, new installations, new Windows installation, new tablet, different settings in Illustrator, the tablet, the graphics card, etc.). I also worked on a different PC - same problem.

    Then I tried different Illustrator versions and noticed that the problem appears in version 29.3 and newer.
    In 29.1 and 29.2 the paths look fine. (I am working with 29.2 at the moment as 29.1 had a bugged Smooth Tool.)

    My theory:
    Since this only appears with the Blob Brush, I think Illustrator somehow messes up the outer strokes of the Blob Brush. (Maybe this is even related to the bugged Smooth Tool in 29.1?) But I can't find any settings that affect the shape the Blob Brush creates.

    So here I am - thanks for reading, any help would be greatly appreciated.

20. Pressing Tab in Color panel glitches

    When adding a color to a object via the Color panel, normally you could use tab to move to the next field in the CMYK color options. Now and for the past few versions released it glitches any time you use Tab.

    To get it to work you now have to type in the number for C, click enter then click in the M, Enter/click Enter and so on, which is time consuming. If you don't do it this way it glitches after hitting.

    In the video i linked, the first try is using Tab, then the 2nd where it works is me hitting Enter after each number and then clicking into the next field.

    To get it to work you now have to type in the number for C, click enter then click in the M, Enter/click Enter and so on, which is time consuming. If you don't do it this way it glitches after hitting.
