Rachel, can you share the test file, please?
Here, if you are OK with sharing it publicly, or privately, using the sharewithai@adobe.com email. In this case, please provide the link to this report so that the team can track the problem (http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/46685662)

Also, you can always get the precise version number in Properties for the Illustrator.exe, in the Details tab.
The number shown in Help > About Illustrator does not provide the exact build info.

There are custom scripts solutions to count words, but they are all broken now, because of the recently introduced bug: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/46537261-incorrect-word-count-via-script)

Gareth, is this still a problem for you with the latest version of Illustrator? If yes — can you please provide the exact specs of your Mac (if you are still using it), the display size, the UI scale options, and screenshots to demonstrate the issue. It’s hard to discuss images without images.

Seems like a job for script... once called, it memorizes the coordinates and when run later, it restores the position to match the one it stores for the object. Save / Load / Erase, something like that.
But I am really curious to know what is that workflow you are using to ask for something like this?

John, do you mean the iPad version struggles with this exact piece of graphics you attached? What are trying to do with it exactly to make the app response slowly? Can you share this file for the team to investigate?

Sorry, it’s hard to understand what is happening exactly at your side (except for the subscription cancelling). Which tools do you want to tweak? Please tell more — but without going sideways with stories of the beautiful old days, they never were that fast as we remember them :)

Illustrator uses anti-aliasing for lines in Outline View when using GPU rendering mode. However, there are reports this is unstable ad makes AI to drop the GPU rendering and return to CPU until restarted.
Does it happen like this for you, Luke?

As for the second request, sneaked in as a comment — it’d be great to have it logged as a separate request.

This is what Real-Time Drawing and Editing option does in Preferences > Performance. You can either toggle it off or use View > View Using CPU command. Both disable the mode and makes a dragged object to be rendered as its edge (like it used to be before) and render the object in its original place until you release the mouse/pen.
Unfortunately there is no intermediate options for us. We can’t keep the edges shown with the real-time preview, and we can’t force to keep the original object displayed.
So let’s consider this request as 'allow to tweak all these three aspects separately', shall we?

    Relates to this request:
Select a few words at the same time

Do you mean a live text?

For now it is not possible, since the selection range of a text should always be contiguous, it’s a basic paradigm, set universally (unless you are working with a code, where editors often allows to select columns of text — which is also contiguous in its own way).

If the text is outlined — no a problem at all — use the Lasso tool (you can double Select Inverse to force objects to be fully selected in the end).

As for this tool... the most viable way is to modify the Touch Type Tool, which now allows to select one glyph only. However, there is a more general request about making it better, and it does not include this particular function: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/43025820-touch-type-improvements

The latest Beta version (27.7) has the ability to filter contents of the Layers panel with an input field at the top of the panel. It does not directly select the objects that have the chosen value in their names (this includes the text contents), but allows to select them faster in the panel.

    Does it help?

The free plugin Select Menu from RJ Graffix allows to select objects which names match or contain the chosen value. This includes text objects (unless someone renames them manually, but who does that at all?)
    https://rj-graffix.com/downloads/plugins/#selectmenu
When installed, use Select > Object > Art by Name command.

Sergey Osokin wrote two scripts to allow this:
    https://github.com/creold/illustrator-scripts/blob/master/md/Style.md#strokesweight
Work great when assigned to hotkeys. Easy to tweak, respect different units, can round values.

Voted. Right now it can be done with a script or a trick: scale whole art with 'Scale strokes; on and then back with said option off. You'll have your art at 100%, but strokes scaled. Or you just don't know about that option?
