An error occurred while saving the comment Susan Draper commentedAll the versions of 27 that I tried crashed when moving items at all - whether on or off of the art board. I tried to hold out for an update to address this issue, but never saw one. I gave up and went back to the prior version (2022, 26.5.2)

There is no true PDF Export in Illustrator, because Illustrator allows to have editable PDFs with .ai-content stored within. Other apps does not allow that, and some users heavily rely on editable PDFs.
Attemps to solve this were made, but there is no clear solution so far. Still we hope to find one.
The intended way to get a PDF (without loosing your data) at the moment would be to use Save a Copy command that saves a separate copy of your file to PDF instead of Save As which keeps a saved file open.

An error occurred while saving the comment Susan Draper commented@Mark, I appreciate you posting the video. I work as a rug designer, so working with and moving complex repeats is an absolute necessity. The PDF file-save issue you mentioned has become my latest nightmare after reverting back to 2022/26. Unfortunately, my PDF files created in 27+ have not saved their illustrator editing capabilities.

December 2023, and I just got this warning - again. I do not work off of a remote server, but I do tend to get this warning after I've saved a copy. While editing my designs, I save out PDFs of versions that I send to clients. The only work-around that I've developed is that I have to do a "save as". I save the file with a new name, (close the file and re-open the new one) and it will generally work.
