Excited to share that the requested functionality is now available in the public builds starting from V 28.3.0.
WIth the new Enclosed Mode, you can now select ONLY those objects which are completely INSIDE the marquee.
To activate the Enclosed Mode, just press 'E' ONCE after you start doing the marquee with the Normal Selection Tool or Group Selection tool.
Please note that,
1. The button E acts as a toggle, which means you just have to press E once, to get into or out of the enclosed mode.
2. You have to press E only after doing the marquee, pressing E in empty canvas will invoke the Free Transform tool or the tool the shortcut 'E' is assigned to.
We made a lot of effort in building this capability, so please try it out and let us what you all think!
An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment Szasz-Fabian Jozsef commentedSelecting objects that are touched by the selection marquee is extremely dumb. I don't know why Illsutrator, inDesign and other Adobe software designers find useful to selected EVERYTHING that is touched.
Please learn from Corel or CAD applications - the user must be able to select objects that are INSIDE the selection marquee.
In order to select some objects in Illustrator or inDesign, the user has to make all kind of tricks and has to struggle every day, because the selection method is too simple and dumb.
Why is so dumb? Because it allows only one way - drag a selection marquee. Take this example from Corel:
- Simple selecting selects objects inside the marquee
- Alt-selecting selects objects touched by the marquee
- Starting the selection with Alt and finishing without Alt selects the objects inside the marquee, WITHOUT moving the object that is under the cursor where the selection marquee started
- Alt-clicking allows to select the objects BEHIND the topmost object.
Adobe products know only the fraction of the features mentioned above, therefore has the worse UX when selecting. An error occurred while saving the comment Szasz-Fabian Jozsef commentedThis is the number one super annoying problem - the dumb selection. Selecting objects entirely inside the marque is a must. I always wondered why people are so addicted to illustrator yet it lacks basic usability features - like the very basic selection methods and a simple and usable point selection...
Currently, the selection marquee randomly selects everything touched - unusable, annoying, error-prone, struggling. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Szasz-Fabian Jozsef commentedDevelopers, please do something...
Moving the text when align changes is getting VERY ANNOYING, useless, dumb and irritatingAn error occurred while saving the comment Szasz-Fabian Jozsef commentedMoving the text when changing the alignment is ANNOYING and totally useless.
Example I just got a file with thousands of text fragments aligned on right, but with text anchor on left. When changing the alignment to right everything gets messed up. What is the use of this, except annoying the user??

So it’s obviously not fixed, and we all know it.
While the cursor gets changes into the horizontal/vertical two-headed arrow, the center handles for the bounding box indeed don’t appear, if the width/height of the art (here just an orthogonal line) is small enough.
Please continue to share you thought, screenshots, GIFs. It’s time to re-review this again.
An error occurred while saving the comment Szasz-Fabian Jozsef commentedI have Illustrator CC v20.
When clicking objects with the selection tool, normally the transform handles do appear to free transform the object.
Now, when clicking lines the center handles does not appear (only handles at the corners), so it's impossible to horizontally or vertically scale (extend) the line!Szasz-Fabian Jozsef supported this idea · -

You can align to an object you choose to be the key one.. Click the object you want to use as a key the second time and Ai will use a bolder edge to highlight it.

Hi Everyone,
This functionality is available in our latest release build – 27.6.1.
Illustrator remembers the last preset used for saving PDF files and keeps it as the default preset.
What's New in the release - https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/whats-new.html

The solution is pushed into Global Availability build 28.6.
PDF is now available as type in File > Export > Export As dialog.
However, File > Adobe PDF Presets menu, similar to one InDesign has, to allow even quicker export, is absent still.
If you want to have it, please upvote this new request here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48670088

Happy to announce that we have introduced 'Preview Missing Fonts' functionality to improve your experience when working with files that contain unavailable fonts.
If you open a file with missing fonts, Illustrator will now render the text correctly on the artboard in Preview Mode, even if the fonts are not installed on your system. This ensures the files appear as intended without requiring immediate font installation.
How does it work?
1. When you open a file with missing fonts, the Missing Fonts Window will appear, listing fonts that are in Preview Only Mode.
2. Close the Missing Fonts Window to view the text rendered accurately on the artboard.
3. You can optionally select the text, go to Objects -> Expand… to convert the text to outlines.
4. The text in Preview Mode is not editable. If you attempt to edit the text in Preview Mode, a warning will appear, notifying…

The implementation is better than nothing, but it is done in the worst possible way.
The E key has to be hit EVERY SINGLE TIME a selection is started... Nobody has imagined, this functionality has to be switched on or off PERMANENTLY.... ?
So users have something but in reality they doesn't have an easy, functional way to use in-marquee selection. Everybody would expect a permanent toggle.
You say, you.made a lot of effort building this capability, it is beyond incredible, nobody in your team realized, this is the most UNUSABLE way to implement in-marquee selection...
There are straightforward ways to implementation:
- Toggle button on the toolbar
- Hit E to permanently toggle the selection mode
- Settings - [x] Select objects inside the marquee
Yet, Adobe invented the wheel, provided a new, nowhere-to-be-seen functionality.
Please rethink this solution...
