I have reproduced this as well. It only seems to affect text set in a TrueType font. OTF (either flavour) or Type 1 are fine.
Further test to reproduce: saved as PDF, then opened file in Illustrator. This shows that wherever a space was set in TT, a stray point is created, and it is this stray point that gets stroked (with rounded buttcap) making it look like a dot/period.
At a Postscript level: it seems a character code \312 is used for every space in TT text instead of a space character?

For those still experiencing the issue, if you haven't tried resetting your Settings in Bridge first, try that and see if it does anything for you.

The release notes for 22.3.1 don't mention this issue. Maybe it should be?

Same issue. I tried editing the keyboard shortcut using the {period} key, but that didn't solve it for the Shift-Command-{period} shortcut. But yes, using the decimal key on the keypad works instead

Weirdly, though, the command to increase size in steps DOES work ( Option-Shift-Command-{period} )

As of Sept 27, with the latest update, the problem is still there.

This issue is probably happening because the artboard dimensions are not appropriate for raster export (i.e. are in decimals).
If you make x and y values as the whole numbers in the transform panel (not in decimal), then the extra pixels will not be added to the exported image.

That is the workaround, and it’s reported that it’s not always the case.

At the same time — Ai knows the size of artboards to be exported and yet it does not deliver the set sizes, which is not fair. The team is going to rethink the algorithm.

Same issue. "Export as"PNG adds random extra pixel dimension; "Save for web" keeps proper dimensions
