Illustrator allows to unlock individual objects on canvas, if you enable 'Select and Unlock object on Canvas' option in Preferences, Selection & Anchor Display section.
Also, you can right click on the spot that has your locked object, choose Unlock and then this item by its name, without enabling that option.

An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedAfter using After Effects and Premiere Pro, I've become jealous of their Keyboard Shortcuts menus. It would be fantastic to have the same visual menu in Illustrator. Photoshop also, since it's not even possible to search for a shortcut.
