A native 2D extrude ability within Illustrator would be an added touch.

An example of how this might be used would be placing an image of an architectural floor plan into Illustrator and using a rectangle to draw a vector floor plan of the walls, extruding as you go. In this way the created vector walls would ideally be connected, and could be dimensioned, colorized, etc. (as needed).

I realize we have image trace but that doesn't always result in clean vector art, especially if the image is low res or has faint lines. Or sometimes doesn't capture all the vector in the way that you want.

AxoTools plug-in might work. It mentions axonometric planes, but I guess you could choose 0 degree angle?

I would envision a simple extrusion function natively within Illustrator to work solely in 2D.

There are now several separate requests made, based on the feedback in this thread:

    1. Regarding adjustable color and opacity for 3D shadows:

    https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47054086

    2. Regarding presets for each tab in 3D and Materials panels: Object, Materials, Lighting:

    http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47350001

All those who commented on the topic until October 16, 2023, are already added as voters there. If this is something you want to have for 3D and Materials in Illustrator — please upvote it. If possible — create new requests and bug reports about 3D, rather than commenting here inside. This will help the team to better prioritize efforts on making the feature better. As always — thanks for the feedback! It helps.

@Egor Chistyakov Being able to set a default value (or reset to zeroed out axis) would work for me. Ideally it stays that value each time I open Illustrator.

I used "Front" because that is the terminology used by Illustrator for zeroed out axis. :-) see attached file

I'd like a check box on the 3D and Materials panel under Rotation where I can choose my default starting rotation to be Preset of front (X=0, Y=0, Z=0) See example attached. I find that every time I create a new 3D it is easier to start from the front view and use the degree sliders from there.

In essence, I would prefer the default preset rotation to be "zeroed out."

Just as you can "Fit Artboard in Window" ⌘ 0,

And "Fit All in Window" ⌥⌘ 0,

It would be nice to fit (selected) Object to Window with simple keyboard shortcut.

I know Zoom ⌘ + with "zoom to selection" turned on does this somewhat. But often I have to continue to zoom up (+) in order to get the object to fill the screen.

The question then might be, well how much should the object fill the window? I think 150% is probably a good starting point, but being able to set the zoom percentage factor would be cool too.

I am glad to remind all who voted for this feature that it is now possible to set a font size as x-height or cap height with Show Font Height Options toggle enabled in Character panel menu.

Some issues still remain, yes, like, wrong size calculation if a font has rounded stems that end below baseline (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/44639661-font-height-options-misbehave-with-rounded-fonts), or inability to focus the dropdown with Tab (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/41836618-font-height-options-tab-order), or calculating font height by measuring glyphs instead of reading the actual value within the font (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/41615035-cap-height-setting-not-using-font-cap-height), but overall this is done, works, and super cool, don’t you think?

With Beta build 28.5.66 Illustrator starts to store the relative paths of all placed objects along with the original (full) path. In that way, if a linked file is not found in the original (full) path, it can be resolved via the relative path thus brings the interpretability between win and mac etc.

Please try and see if this build does it correctly and behaves in the way you expect it to when dealing with paths for links.

    Comment back in any way!
