This issue seems to be fixed in Illustrator Beta 28.1.0.100.
Please update it (or install it from CCD, if you don’t have it) and verify if the issue is no longer happening.
An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment There are two more related problems, that seem like to have the same cause:
1. Bug; Save as, PDF, does not remember PDF settings
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/473849572. Small File Size Hardly reduces PDF size since recent update
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/47311145Do these look like the same problem to you?
An error occurred while saving the comment There are two similar problems already reported here at UV:
1. Illustrator 27.9 Adobe PDF Preset will match what it was last modified to.
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/472992772. Small File Size Hardly reduces PDF size since recent update
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/47299277Jonas, can you please review both and comment?
An error occurred while saving the comment Wow. I confirm that. Indeed, when I save the third file out of three, the preset magically switches from PDF/X-4 to None.
An error occurred while saving the comment Lee, it seems like it’s the same bug as this: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/47299277
Can you please try and follow the described steps there and see if the option gets check on its own / does not follow the preset? An error occurred while saving the comment That’s an impressive difference :/
I won’t ask more details about the contents of the document, let them figure this out, but 1.8 MB assumes it doesn’t contain any images at all...
Are you sure the settings you have in the Save Adobe PDF dialog all match between the 27.9 and previous build? The same compatibility, Preserve Ai Editing Capabilities is unchecked? An error occurred while saving the comment Reducing size is inconsistent. Some projects get compressed very noticeable, because the data’s nature allows this, some others get packed in a less dense package. It affects both vector and especially raster images. Project can have different amount of objects, artboards, points, there a many factors! You can’t expect all project to get compressed in the same way...
Without files to prove the claim, nothing can be really done. If you make up a synthetic file (it does not have to be the real project) that gets compressed fine with the previous versions, but gets treated differently with the latest one, using the same exact save settings — please send it. The files sent via the email I shared earlier stay private, and only the team can access them.An error occurred while saving the comment Lee, can you share files that were getting smaller alright in the previous versions, but do not do it this one (which is the one, by the way? 27.9?)
You can share them here, if you are OK with making these public, or you can send them to sharewithai@adobe.com — in this case please also put the link to this report so the team can track the issue (http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/47311145)An error occurred while saving the comment Confirm that!

An error occurred while saving the comment At the moment we can backup workspaces’ files manually.
The Mac’s path is <OSDisk>/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator <version number> Settings/<locale>/Adobe Illustrator PrefsStill a UI option to manage these fully is welcome.

An error occurred while saving the comment One can grab the keyboard shortcuts .kys file directly in the app folder and back it up.
The Mac’s path is <OSDisk>/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator <version number> Settings/<locale>/Adobe Illustrator PrefsI assume you mean an interface option to export and import this, directly in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, correct?

On Windows:
<OSDisk>/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator <version number> Settings/<locale> (e.g. en_US)/<Name>
On Mac:
<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator <version number> Settings\<locale> (e.g. en_US)\x64\<Name>You can get the full list of all places and the paths Illustrator uses here:
https://www.vektorgarten.de/illustrator-settings.htmlIt does not mean this is not a descent request, on the contrary — this zoo of folders is a mess. We should have a rather streamlined way to exchange and backup and access the settings.

An error occurred while saving the comment Can you explain this a bit further?
Perhaps draw a mockup illustration to demonstrate the intended result? Not sure if I get what you mean. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Bilawal, please share a short video of this happening (ideally with the Layers panel visible and expanded) and the actual test file.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anne, what things specifically? Can you share a test example that was giving less groups when expanded in pervious versions and now give 10 times more?
The fact downgrading does not help means either it never was for this type of art, or the problem started before, and stayed unnoticed for a while...
Anyway, nothing can be guessed without the test files — please share some to allow starting the investigation. -

An error occurred while saving the comment A free plugin solution exists: https://forum.rudtp.ru/resources/plagin-dlja-illjustratora-real-eyedropper.3421/
An error occurred while saving the comment If you open Color panel, pick standard Eyedropper tool, click and hold and move over the different elements, the panel shows you the color, in real-time.. but not the values of a spot color, just the name of it. So yeah, should be more than this, and a hint near a cursor is handy indeed. Voted.

An error occurred while saving the comment When all points of a line gets selected, Illustrator treats it as a whole object selection, and all anchor point related operations become unavailable.
This also applies to Convert Corner / Smooth, Cut and Connect operations in Control panel.
A wonky workaround is to add an extra point to a path, and not select it — I know, a stupid one. However, I doubt it ever worked differently... I checked CC 2019 (23.1.0, the latest old CC version I have access to), and it works there the same way as today (except for Align To mode buttons exposed).
If you have access to CC 2022 still — can you record a short demo and share a test file, please?

An error occurred while saving the comment Can’t confirm that, the coordinates stay integer if I make them so...
It can depend on some other factors then — document units, the image’s dimensions, etc.
Can you please share a test file and preferably a short video of this happening? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Do you use touchpad or mouse for this?
It feels like Ai treats you clicks/taps as 'select and move', based on the distance between 'mouse down' and 'mouse up' events... -

An error occurred while saving the comment Yep, can confirm that.
I believe Ai should select only the left column...
Even if I check Stroke and set tolerance 0, the black square with orange stroke get affected. An error occurred while saving the comment Kris, please share also this exact file.

This happens because the top layer has a custom appearance applied to it.
To undo that, you’d have to target the layer again, open the Appearance panel, and click the 'Clear Appearance' button.
You can read more about Appearance and Selection markers in Layers panel here:
An error occurred while saving the comment Don, sorry for the late request.
Notice that the top layer has the round marker to the right if the 'Draw' name drawn as filled, opposed to the hollow markers of the 'Target' and 'BG' layers.
That means that at some moment you clicked the top layer by this marker and assigned a red fill to it. When you click this market, you make the item targeted for applying the appearance, and if you target a layer like this, you assign an appearance for the layer, and it cover the appearance of everything that you draw within it.To undo that, you’d have to target the layer again, open the Appearance panel, and click the 'Clear Appearance' button.

An error occurred while saving the comment Interestingly enough, Photoshop recently made these changes, and now warns users about new tools, asking them if they want to add them to existing toolbar, load then separately, or ignore.
Illustrator should do the same.
