Smart guides don't work properly
It has been too long for this not to be working right yet. Smart guides aren't smart enough. When smart guides snap to something it has to be exact, not .05 pixels off. Close enough is not good enough. Also, when I drag over an object it needs to snap to that object, not some random shape clear across the pasteboard. If I have to zoom in 2600% to manually align something (which I often do) smart guides and snapping have failed. Is there some ridiculous setting I have to change to get this to work the way it's supposed…
81 votesIt’s dangerous to call things Smart... When they behave dumb, the name sound like an insult. Sadly, this is the case.
Please provide more specific cases, with video proofs, ask you colleagues to share and vote, to move this further. This is the way to force changes to things that are broken — be vocal and persistent. Thank you all and let’s hope we get heard.

Line Extension Smart Guide not working
I recently updated my Illustrator to 2025 and my smart guides are on but when I extend a line now it is no longer snapping to "Line Extension". I have verified that in my preferences under Smart Guides, "Anchor/ Path Labels" is turned on. Not sure if this is a bug with the new update or what is going on.

Pressing keyboard arrows while 'Snap to grid' is on nudges art by two instead of one
I can't use keyboard arrows to move art around the document because AI almost every time moves art at 2mm instead of 1mm, which is set in preferences.
- Create document, e.g. A4, with units set as mm
- Set grid 10×10 — it's my mostly used grid, because I live in metric world
- Set 'Keyboard increment' to 1mm
- Enable 'Snap to grid'
- Draw custom-sized rectangle
- Press Up or Down several times and watch how coordinates change
Expected:
Rectangle's Y should go like this:
55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61...Actual result:
Rectangle jumps like this:
55, 57, 58, 61, 63,…18 votesI am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 24.3.0 which is available worldwide now.

Straight line extension does not work if the adjacent point has a handle
I have a shape.
Some points of it have handles, some are not.
For example, two points adjacent to the the bottom-most one: the right one has no handles, the left one has one.
This, for some user-unfriendly reasons, matters and dictates Ai to draw an extension or not to.
If I grab bottom point and try to move it along the right segment’s virtual extension, AI draws it for me and I can snap the point to it — 'because the adjacent point has no handles'.
If I move this same point along the basically same straight left segment,…17 votesI am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 27.3.1 which is available worldwide now.

Clip groups snap to grid by their clipped contents and not the mask
Snap to Grid option doesn't work properly for Clipping Masks.
Instead of snapping the boundaries of the Clipping Mask to the grid, Illustrator snaps to the grid the bounding box of the masked object hidden under the mask.8 votes -
Pivot point in Free Transform doesn't snap
Draggable pivot pint in Free Transform tool doesn't snap at all: not with Smart guides, not with Snap to grid.

Anchor Point Guides are invisible in Illustrator 2019 unless selected?
I installed the newest AI update (v23) and started testing some of the new features when I noticed that the anchor points that I rely on for my work have vanished. I've attached screen snips to show the difference between AI 2018 and 2019.
That little magenta X shows up in earlier versions but now it's invisible. It's still present and can be selected if I know where it is but that defeats the purpose, in my opinion. There must be some way to turn these back on, right?
I've tried toggling many settings in the menu and the closest…
7 votesIt seems like several problems got mixed in the comments.
1. Guides made of single anchors (displayed as <Guide> in Layers) are displayed correctly in the latest versions of Ai when View > Guides > Show Guides is enabled (although they are rather small).
2. Illustrator does not draw centerpoints for ellipses while moving then in GPU mode — a know problem, reported separately here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/39740689
Please upvote it if you want to see edges while moving.
3. Show Edges option gets occasionally disabled — gets fixed with Cmd/Ctrl + H. Edges still won’t be drawn when GPU Performance and Real-Time Drawing and Editing options are enabled in Preferences > Performance, only when you switch to CPU mode.
If your case is nothing like this — please comment and share details on the problem, with steps and screenshots or videos.

Grid snapping don't work on an internal point
It's not really Smart Guides, take a path drawn freely. After activating the grid, if you want to align an internal point of the path to a point grid you can't. The magnetism applies only on a bounding box of the path, not on the point you show.

Smart guides not snapping to artboard or other objects when multiple objects selected.
If you select more than one object and try to snap to the artboard bounds it does not show any snapping. This also happens if you have a lot of objects selected and try to snap to a guide or another group of objects.

Offset pen tool
When I try to draw with the pen tool the point is a couple points offset from where I click with the cursor. I have the latest version of Illustrator on my MacBook Pro and it just started doing this while I was in the middle of a project. I've tried restarting Illustrator but that didn't fix anything.

Fix inconsistent Smart Guides
Smart Guides say 'intersection' while snapping to a midpoint / origin.
Even when an intersection is near, the origin is favoured by the algoritm.Best would be to configure Smart Guides priorities to the user's needs, or add 'Snap to intersections' in the View menu.
Please repear the wrong descriptions.

Problem with snap / smart guides
Illustrator 22.1, Max OSX High Sierra 10.13.3
The smart guides are always a little off, unless I zoom a lot.
For example, when I want to cut a path at an intersection, with CC2018, the cut is always a little off.
It happens with many other actions: moving anchor points, clicking on a path end point to continue drawing, adjusting tangents... the smart guides show the correct point, but the action snaps to something else.
See the example below, where I'm trying to continue that red line.

Artboard Snapping is broken when creating a new artboard
If you're creating a new artboard, you can snap the edges of the artboard to previously created artboards.
However, if you hold SHIFT to constrain proportions (handy if you're making social size assets for example), the snapping no longer works, even though you'll still see the snapping points.
Furthermore, when you constrain proportions, the artboard location will be a decimal point, meaning if you Export For Screens, you'll get extra pixels added to your artboard thanks to a different unrelated illustrator bug.

Snap to point
Why do you have to zoom right in almost to get points to snap to each other properly? Do you understand how disruptive to workflow this is? It seems to be a real issue when not zoomed right in to an image. This is very annoying!

Snap to Grid and Snap to Pixel interaction is unpredictable
If both Snap to Grid and Snap to Pixel are both enabled, drawing tools (like the Pen tool) will snap to a nearby pixel that the tool is hovering over.
I'd prefer if it defaulted to the Snap to Pixel function, so it'd snap to the center of the pixel, but that also might be confusing with Snap to Grid enabled.

Auto-snapping is unreliable
Snapping function is often unreliable, snapping to unintuitive objects (fx. an object on an offscreen artboard rather than one next to the object being moved)
Further - snapping allignment is unreliable, often claiming to snap to allign with an edge, but when placed being off by a tiny bit, scewing layouts.
