Thus confirmed. -

An error occurred while saving the comment This feels like a less-frightening way of introducing artboards-as-pages / layers-per--artboards, requested here:
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31133392I like your idea and do really wish for it to get more votes.

An error occurred while saving the comment There are several existing requests that cover all the mentioned points:
1. Isolation mode fading also in Outline mode: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/45706072 (and a more generalized Dim Control In Isolation Mode: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31941823)
2. Isolate Selected Objects without having to group them: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31540384
3. Not sure how the 'real isolation mode' (solo / focus) would solve this... where do you want the newly created object to be put then when you exit the mode? What if it is put exactly between two existing objects, both on different layers — where should it go on exit then? into 1 or into 2?
4. The last one depends on the method of exiting the mode: if you use a double-click — yes, the first click of the double-click indeed deselects; but if you press Escape, the selection stays. There is no request about making the double-click’s behavior, but you can make one if you wish.An error occurred while saving the comment Yes, visibility in Outline is an issue. But sometimes it's a benefit. We need a way to control the behavior.

An error occurred while saving the comment Why?
What makes the current way of isolation (when all the other artwork fades) to not work for you? Please explain more.
Also, the 'Isolation Mode' layer is temporary and vanishes when you exit (unless you use 'Paste Remembers Layers' and get a bug related to it). And since you have layers and objects you might want to manipulate, Ai has to display something in Layers. What’s wrong with that? -

An error occurred while saving the comment It’s an interesting idea actually.
The native way Illustrator offers today is the 'Select and Unlock objects on canvas' option in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display. When it’s enabled, Ai shows small lock icons next to locked objects, if you try to click or marquee them.
Two downsides of the method I can immediately think of:
1. Objects behind locked ones won’t get selected anymore with a click (reported here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/48743753)
2. We still have to click or marquee to see the locks (that’s why a second request exists, to make this option into two: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48753221)The other method we can use is a context menu. Click a locked object and choose to unlock it; and if there are many objects behind the cursor, pick one form the list. A downside for this method — the list only has names, and no highlighting on canvas happens (requested here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48881447)
Then, there are plugin tools that allow unlocking on canvas.
One would be Lock Unlock Tool by Astute Graphics: https://docs.astutegraphics.com/subscribe/lock-unlock-tool (and here’s a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3BDGA5QKw0)
Another plugin tool is a free one, Unlocker Tool by n8ive studio: https://n8ivestudio.gumroad.com/l/HuZMu
Both plugin tools work very similarly — they highlight locked object when you pick the tool and allow to toggle the state.
The second one support marqueeing and separates Lock and Unlock operations with Opt/Alt.Please comment back if these methods suit you.

An error occurred while saving the comment There is 'graceful degradation', and this one is an ungraceful one. And then I’m asked but don’t I use Libraries. How can I use it it’s fragile AF?
An error occurred while saving the comment When I try to replicate this, following the steps from the video, I notice this:
1. If I create a shape first and then apply the spot color from a Library directly to it, it gets added as 'blue', but not in Lab, but in RGB! Why not Lab? I check 'Spot Colors' dialog in the Swatches panel’s menu (not many know about this one, BTW), and clearly says 'Use Lab values).
2. If I don’t have anything drawn on canvas and double-click the color in a Library — it gets added as a process magenta, just as reported by many.

An error occurred while saving the comment Another solution to do this is the plugin toll by Astute Graphics, PathScribe: it allows to press a key while selecting to target only points without segments.
An error occurred while saving the comment There is a free script that can turn a mixed selection into points-selection only, but not as a hotkey held before (and actually we have no more modifiers left to allow this), but after a selection is initially done. Once assigned to an action, it can be a quite a fast way to deal with the problem.
Here it is: https://github.com/creold/illustrator-scripts/blob/master/md/Select.md#selectonlypoints -

An error occurred while saving the comment Currently this can be achieved with this script: https://efficiencydesign.booth.pm/items/5611957
An error occurred while saving the comment Ah, yes!
Illustrator offers the Basic Diffused Feather as an effect, in Effect > Stylize > Feather, but not the other types, Directional and Gradient ones.
Instead, Ai offers to set custom opacity masks. Not as fast and efficient, sure, but more customizable.
But no tool to quickly set it up! And this has been in other applications (like Xara, Corel DRAW...) for DECADES. And now the more recent rivals have it as well.

Please get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.

I love Illustrator is finally bringing back separators (with captions even)... but I don’t like these are hardcoded and can’t be put in other toolbars.
There are many thing toolbars need, but I’d never say another 'basic' toolbar is what we needed. I hope the team scouts UV and learn about toolbar docking, file-per-toolbar, search tool by name, spring-loaded tools, tool hotkey cycling...
