With Beta build 28.5.66 Illustrator starts to store the relative paths of all placed objects along with the original (full) path. In that way, if a linked file is not found in the original (full) path, it can be resolved via the relative path thus brings the interpretability between win and mac etc.
Please try and see if this build does it correctly and behaves in the way you expect it to when dealing with paths for links.

It is not as straightforward as it may sound :) We have been working to take advantage of threads and other hardware such as GPU/Video RAM in places where it can make a higher impact. We are prioritizing areas that are slow instead of making a generic change and destabilizing the product. Product stability is the top priority for us and we have been consistently trying to improve it. We want to move with caution and make changes without compromising on the quality. Hope this helps.

Starting from the February 2024 release, version 28.3, this option is no longer enabled by default for new documents. If you had hyphenation enabled in an existing document, Ai will respect this.

We create design kits at work that change monthly where a photo is replaced that links across multiple artboards. We have a template folder that we duplicate and change the few elements within art file. I thought placing the linked photo in a folder with the art file called Links would allow for a simple swap of photos but the new art files link to the original photo from the template folder. Seems like a simple ability to have.
