Efficient and standardized PDF export without exporting hidden illustrator content The current illustrator "save as" saves all illustrator content, but hides data that is not on the selected "save as" pages. This puts content that I don't want published at risk (the pdf can be opened in illustrator to reveal all content) as well as creates very inefficient and bloated PDF's. I have to either create a seperate illustrator file that deletes all artboards and content that I don't want exported, then save as PDF, or save as PDF (with all content) and open the PDF in illustrator after export to delete the hidden content and resave.

Illustrator 5 crashes everytime i try saving a file Hi, every time I try to save my file on illustrator it crashes, I'm using OS X Yosemite 10.10.5, any advice?
1 votePlease get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.

Asset Export panel list view clips filenames to approx 24 characters Asset Export list view should show full file name or clip to panel width. As it stands, my file names are being clipped even though there is plenty of room to show the full name.

Place files via drag-n-drop but still allow options to be selected before placement. If we want to place a page of a multi-page PDF into an AI file, we have to do so using the File->Place menu with Options checked. It would be nice to be able to simply drag the PDF onto the AI document and have the option dialog open so we can choose which page to place.

Make Asset Export settings Per-Project not Global It doesn't make sense to have global settings for Asset Export, as the exporting requirements vary between projects. Each project should have its own Asset Export settings so this doesn't have to be set up every time when exporting from different projects with different settings.
Changing back and forward is time consuming and error prone.

Open an InDesign file in Illustrator Need to be able to open an Indesign file directly in AI. No reason to go to pdf and totally destroy the artwork. files are uneditable converting from Id to PDF to AI.

Slices I have created a logo and it saves in slices, and at one point in it's own folder, which I didn't ask it to do, I don't want that. Also the Illustrator program is to big, it falls off the screen at times and Photoshop is to small, I need a magnifying glass can they both be fixed so they can fit properly on the screen. Also now and then all the colors in swatch window disappears.

Multiple Artboard Save Some older versions of AI does not show multiple artboards. When doing a save could there be the option for artboards like when SVG is selected.

Automatic "Generate assets" option like in Photoshop Photoshop's "Generate assets" workflow is a godsend, and it would be just as amazing to have something similar in Illustrator.
Adding an extension to the name of an artboard or layer (.png, .jpg, etc) and have it automatically export would be incredible, especially when working with a dozen artboards that need to be exported every time there's an amend (for icon libraries, banners, etc).

UNSAVED DOCUMENT ASTERISK - * Sometimes we need to know if we changed a document, or if something moved without us realizing it. And the only way to know is to look at that tiny asterisk next to the document file name to see if it was modified.
My idea is to make that asterisk a little bit bigger, so people can easily spot it. I am attaching a screenshot with a rough concept.

Autosave ON Visual indicator A visual indicator in the application frame that Auto Save is still activated/on. When dealing with complex files auto save is turned off, and stays off. A visual indicator that it is no longer on would be helpful when working in a new file that it needs to be turned back on.

Changing default PDF preset I save PDF versions of my Illustrator files dozens of times daily, and every...single...time...I have to manually go find and select the correct option in the PDF dropdown menu. Illustrator has never had a way to change the default PDF setting the way InDesign has, and it needs it!
This is not a big feature request, but for me it’s probably the biggest pain point Illustrator has. Please fix.
19 votesThere are a couple of considerations to be made here:
1. When you save/close a PDF (with Ai editing capabilities), open it back, make some edits and press Cmd+S (Save), original PDF settings are preserved. I am assuming there are no expectations of changing this behavior.
2. Same document, when Saved As (copy), the PDF options dialog picks up the settings embedded in the PDF as the starting point. Users can then change it. By showing user’s last used setting (as requested in this report), it would not be possible to populate PDF‘s embedded setting in the dialog.
Please share if this is an acceptable change.
Thanks,

Ai File icon turned upside down Hi. I have updated the ai to version cc 2018 and all the icons of my files in ai format turned upside down. It makes me feel annoyed even it does not hinder me from opening and working on the files. May i know how this can be fixed?
Thank you.

Remember scaling per file in Save for web I design for printing and use 'Save for web and devices' to have crisp images.
E.g. I can have document 300x900mm, and then I export it as 600x1800px and have my snapped sharp lines to stay sharp.
But 'SfWaD' always immediately renders image at '100%' (which is not 100% at all at Windows — it's an another problem to be discussed), and I get 850x2551.
When my dimensions are bigger, AI sometimes can't even render an image and I get error message and pink fill in preview area.
I try to draw ten times smaller whenever is possible to avoid…7 votes -

Export to resolutions below 72 DPI Currently export to raster formats seem to have a 72 DPI minimum. For making thumbnail versions of art, it would be great to be able to export to lower resolutions. It is a drag to have to use Photoshop to do a job that it seems like Illustrator could easily do by itself.

Hi,
You can use File > Export > Export for Screens or Window > Asset Export. It allows you to export till 0.5x scale which is 36DPI. Also, this allows you enter height or width by which you can even go below 36DPI as honors what ever size you mention. I hope this helps you.
Thanks & Regards

Unless I'm missing something, please export graphics to the exact same dimensions they were designed to be. Do not add arbitary padding. In all good conscience I feel like I absolutely have to be missing something here. But time and time again, upon exporting some UI graphics from AI, they turn out to be wider and taller than they were designed to be. Is this padding arbitrary? How was it even determined that these pixels would be added to the exported assets? Am I truly missing something?
I mocked something up in XD, but after creating a few UI elements it was apparent that XD is nowhere near up to the task for making full-fledged graphics. No biggie, I was a little…

When exporting png files with 300 ppi, keep the actual size of the canvas Hello, it would be great if you export a canvas of z. For example, 100x100px can set the ppi resolution to 300 while the exported png is still exactly 100x100px. for the creation of tile sets that would be very good and would save me many hours of work. In addition, the pngs would also have a color profile, which is unfortunately not the case at the moment. Thank you
