Take off the text on the Home Screen
Take off the text that says things like "Let's Design Great Graphics Today, [Your Name]"
It is very irritating to a designer to get a pep talk from his software. It comes across as patronizing.
It discourages use of the software because it is irritating. Please make this minor cosmetic adjustment and either take off the text completely, or simply say "Welcome to Illustrator."

When I toggle panels by pressing tab, please do not move my view.
In Illustrator:
(Make sure to have some docked panels)
Press tab, have a look at your screen.
Press tab again, look at your screen again.
WHY DID IT MOVE? It's an expensive repaint, and costs performance on complex documents. Please don't do this :(4 votes -
Crop Image tool
With the Crop image tool, it would be nice if the initial crop bounds were to the exact size of the selected image. Right now when you select an image to crop, it creates a random selection, that requires more work than if the crop selected the outer bounds of the image instead of a small selection.

Notice that checking this off will also disable auto-placing of color stops in Freeform Gradients and of, pins in Puppet Warp.

As a user, I want to be informed when I am importing a 16-bit image that they are not supported and need to be converted to 8-bit
Since AI devs don't seem keen to add 16-bit functionality to AI, at the very least, support your users by informing them that they are importing something that AI cannot display correctly.

Add checkbox to modify Magic Wand tool so you can select from "Active" or "All Artboards"
Selecting fills/strokes based on their colors is a great way to make changes quickly in Adobe Illustrator.
The issue with the Magic Wand tool is that it selects colors from ALL ARTBOARDS.
My request is to add a simple checkbox to give the Magic Wand tool the option to select just the "Active" artboard. By default it will select from "All" artboards.

Network drives support
I can't believe what I read on this Adobe support page (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/illustrator-support-networks-removable-media.html) about using Illustrator files only on your LOCAL drive.
How is it possible Adobe drove it's software into this nightmare?
If we really can't acces and save our files on a local network drive then I am really done with it...11 votesHi,

Special characters like in InDesign
It would be reat to have special characters (especially hyphens and white spaces) like in InDesign... and that they work just as good. So far, for example, the "nonbreaking space" doesn't always react well when the text is justified.

Align Stroke to one side of open path
The feature which allows you to align stroke to inside or outside of a path for closed shapes is fantastic and gives a great deal of dynamic help. Currently, the only way to align a stroked path and another shape is inaccurately with only visual cues or expand the stroked path and lose editability.
I don't know if it has been suggested but a feature which allowed you to preserve a non destructive workflow and interact with shapes more easily is very much within reach. Simply create an equivalent for the align stroke to inside or outside of path for…
100 votesThe team has encountered several issues with this feature. It requires them to change the basic algorithms and it is going to take them more time than anticipated.
While it still works in Beta 28.8.0.7, the next Beta build will have Inside/Outside aligned strokes for open paths disabled. The Beta is scheduled to be live on 7th of August.
Once this is ready to be enabled back, the team will update the status.

Join end point to path
I am a student at university, and I need to be able to join end points to paths without having the enter the live paint. This would give higher editing capability, and allows me to keep the stylized stroke options like calligraphy.

Check Spelling function should ignore placeholder 'Lorem ipsum' text
The automatically generated placejolder text should not be picked up by the 'Check Spelling' function

Undo Paragraph/Character styles.
In Adobe InDesign, Paragraph or Character styles can be undone by pressing Ctrl+Z. But this is not possible in Adobe Illustrator, which causes some problems. It'd be great if this feature can be added to Illustrator.

Please Warn when saving working file to PDF without AI edibility
I was working on a file for half the day - making layers, groups and text styles. I had it all the way I wanted it, ready to add some translated text tomorrow. I saved and closed, not realizing that the original file I opened was a PDF that had be saved without Illustrator editing.
The result was that everything was collected into one layer with nested clipping paths, and all my carefully formatted text was broken apart. (a few random lines were even converted to outlines)

File Management
Hi, it would be a great feature in Illustrator if you could see at a glance where the illustrator file is linked eg Indesign or Framemaker.
This would help massively and save considerable time when updating files that use the same linked Illustrator file.

Exclude single object or layer from moving with artboard
It would be great to exclude a layer or single object even with "move locked and hidden artwork with artboard" enabled. This allows for a more flexible approach when dragging artboards with and without artwork.

text align vertically
Allow text to be vertically centered in text box.
In InDesign, there is an option in the text frame properties, "Vertical Justification", with a "Center" option.
Or, the "baseline shift" option could be split into either specifying a number, as it is now, or specifying "center in text box".
