Rename Symbol via context menu
I expect the rename possibiilty in the context menu rather than having to select the symbol and then go to the hamburger menu.

Can you build an illustrator that crashes every minute instead of every five minutes?
Can you build an illustrator that does not crash every single day? How is this possible? Used to be able to run illustrator for weeks without a crash and now it crashes everyday. Your garbage products get worse by the minute. Useless!!!

Make Envelope Distort to ignore the clipped part of a clipping group
I would like it to be possible to perform an envelope distort operation so that only what is in the clipping is taken into account in the calculation of object bending. At the moment, if I have, for example, objects (like circle) in a clipping rectangle and I use the "Make with Mesh" or "Make with Top Object" option to bend the whole thing to a different shape, the bend sizes are not only limited to the clipping but to all objects that are not visible and hidden under the clipping, causing it to be badly deformed. Option to add dimensions to current / specified layer
I enjoy the new dimension tool but find it annoying that it creates a whole new separate layer. Maybe my workflow is unconventional, but it would be nice if the dimensions could just be added to my print instructions layer instead of a whole new layer just for the dimensions. I make a lot of diecuts and find myself still using old methods to create the dimension lines due to it always putting them on another layer.

Add Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+X as a text modal keyboard shortcut for strikethrough text
Recently Ai finally added hotkeys slots for text formatting (following this request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/33679330) — for bold, Underline, Italics.
We need more.
Even though Strikethrough (as well as Underline) in Ai is very basic and does not allow customization (here is a request about both: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48103976), we need at least an empty hotkey slot for it. Most apps support Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+X for this, so I suggest the same combination.3 votes -
Images with the file name underneath.
Would be great if you could place images on to an artboard and have the option to display the files name underneath the image.
This would be great when designing images for Etsy showing the customer the choice of images they can choose and then tell you the file name of their chosen image.2 votes -
Don’t hide Repeat controls for small or zoomed out objects
Illustrator only displays controls for repeat objects when it’s enough screen space, it seems. But when we are zoomed out or the object is just small, and there is still enough space to put these in, we get nothing.
Even when there’s almost no space to fit controls at the box, some other apps draw them next to it, with connectors.
Meanwhile Ai still chokes us with corner widgets on zoomed out objects, and there is now way to hide them. Here is a request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/43661631

Improve Assigning Color Profile
I’ve been running into some challenges with color profiles in Adobe Illustrator that I think could use improvement. Every time I open a document, I’m asked to either assign or discard a color profile. The issue is, even when I choose and save the file, Illustrator asks me again when I reopen it. Is there a reason it’s not saving my choice?
Another thing that could help a lot is when working with multiple images, like 20 or more. Instead of getting prompted one by one for each image, it would be much faster if I could see a list…

Dimensions layer should stay locked
Since you decided to force the creation of a specialized Dimensions layer on us when a dimensions is created (and here is a feature request to make this optional: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48236954), we now have a problem with accidental creation of art directly in this dedicated layer, since every time a dimension is selected, this layer gets active and unlocked (reported here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/939477/suggestions/47570813)
Since you probably don’t really care, and won’t solve both issues, perhaps you should keep this layer locked and not unlock until we choose to.

Allow Live Paint selection to have complex appearance
Using Live Paint Selection Tool, we can choose sections of the Live Paint objects, areas and segments of contours, assigning fills and color to them.
But what we can assign is rather basic (the same as for live characters, and the related request about the same deal is here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/46545787)
We can’t assign a brush, change order of appearance attributes, add a second fill and offset it, assign any effect to it, distort or roughen — only fill under stroke, no stroke alignment (even though the panel lies it can be done), no arrowheads... at least dash count as…3 votes -
Easily resize pattern
Would love to be able to easily resize the patterns within forms.
Right now I have to resize the object using the option "adapt the pattern" while doing the modifcation, and resize it back without the option.
Or make a new, big pattern within the pattern swatch.What would be useful is not having to leave your illustration or change the shape you would like to change the pattern that is applied to.

Allow us to choose a preferable file format on Export or keep the last chosen one
Please create a hotkey for the "Export as" function. It would also be nice if I could set AI to always remember my preferred filetype instead of always defaulting to png.

PDFs in Libraries: Why I can't edit them?
In Libraries:
.AI files are editable with a ctrl-click > Edit
.PDF are not.Please allow PDF files to be open in Adobe Illustrator.

Allow to disable or enable center points for all or specific objects types on creation
With Area Type, if I use the text tool to highlight a word (for example, if I want to embolden the word), if I catch the centre point of the text box in the wrong way, Illustrator will assume that I want to create a new text box, which I don't. I know I can manually disable the centre point via the Attributes panel, but I need to set the centre point to OFF by default, and to my knowledge there is no way of doing this.

Split 'Select and Unlock objects on canvas' into two options: Unlock Widgets and Allow to Select Locked Objects
There is a 'Select and Unlock objects on canvas' option in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display section, which allows to display small unlock widgets for the locked objects we can click to unlock (this is fairly similar to what InDesign has).
It also allows us to 'select' several locked objects or unlock them all or only some of them, using a context menu (this is something InDesign does NOT have!)
(I put this in quotes because no real selection happens — the objects don’t get marked with the square selection markers in Layers panel and Locate command does nothing).

A proposal to fix the mess that is Preferences > Units

Units of measure settings are a mess right now, units can be set for General, Stroke and Type on a “global” level under Illustrator > Preferences, but “General” are overridden by Unit settings on document (local) level, however it does not apply to, nor can it be changed for Stroke and Type on document level. Make documents honor artboard settings when adding additional artboards

When you create a new document, under More Settings you can indicate how you want the succeeding Artboards to appear (see the image).
However, if you add more artboards to the same document after it was created, this setting is not honored, but appears with the default setting, which is to the right of current Artboard. Even when the down and left icons are selected under Properties > Artboards > Quick Actions > Rearrange All Artboards.

Allow to remove a 3D effect directly from 3D and Materials panel
I would like to see a simple button that is in 3D and Materials that I can press to remove the 3D effect.
Going to Window > Appearance is fine but its an extra step. It would be quicker and easier to just have a button in the 3D and Materials panel.
