1. Ability to change default unit of measurement

   Please add the ability to change the default units for documents. I work in print and it's frustrating (and annoying) to have to change the units from points to inches every time I create a new document.

2. .obj asset file multiple group/layer hierarchy

   It’s very cool that you can export 3d models as obj - when I try to import the obj file Into blender, the group objects become scattered and lose there positioning that I have created - please make it so that when I import the file all of the objects are together / grouped as I intended and not scattered - great job on the new update 👍🏻

3. Let us set the default color for effects

   I know this was changed in a recent release, but instead of just setting the default color for drop shadow to 100%K, let us choose what we want the default to be. Some of us might want rich black instead - or a different color. And please do this for all effects that use colors (Outer Glow, Inner glow, etc..)

4. Scale with constrained proportions

   Give me a key combo with the scale tool to constrain proportions.

   The diagonal motion doesn't cut it. I'm doing very detailed work and there is no indicator if the proportions are actually locked or not. Very frustrating.

5. Embedding Linked Illustrator content should embed the native content instead of the PDF version.

   When you place a Linked Illustrator object (from a file or from a CC Library) and later decide to Embed it, you actually embed the PDF content of the linked file. This results in many groups, clipping masks, reduced editability (no Appearance effects, Symbols, Brushes) and loss of layers.
   The optimal editable way would be to embed the native objects instead of the PDF version, similar to Copy and Paste with the Paste Remembers Layers option turned on.

6. Create square artboards with Shift held when no artboards are selected

   Artboard tool does a lot of things: selects, creates, moves,.. we are out of modifiers to control it properly. Specifically, we can’t create square artboards with the natural way we can create square paths, circles with Ellipse tool, like in many applications.

   Instead, Ai uses Shift key to select artboards if you start holding Shift before clicking (which is fine) and uses ratio of the last selected artboard if you hold it while dragging (who even uses it?)

   What if you let us to create square artboards, when no artboards are selected, but Shift is held? The alternative is to get rid of proportions lock completely.

7. "Select Same Fill/Opacity/Appearance/etc" in Freeform Gradients

   I work in printing, we just got 15 files in using freeform gradients where the majority of the gradient is 80% opacity and the edges of the shapes are 10% opacity. After printing samples, the customer has decided to change the 80% to 100%. Normally, this is very quickly executed with solid colors and within gradient meshes by selecting one object or point and choosing "select same opacity" from the menu. But this feature is not available in the freeform gradients. I now have the task of individually changing the opacity on over 1500 points across all of the files. With how popular the freeform gradients are becoming, I expect this issue may arise more often as many artists will need to perform minor tweaks which should take literally seconds, but will turn into multiple hours of tedious work. Not to mention that the opacities are similar enough that it leaves a large margin of error if any of the color points are missed. because of human error. Please let the computer do the dirty work!

8. グループ内のサブレイヤが非表示でも順序を入れ替えられるようにしてほしい

   たくさんのレイヤのグループを作り、各グループのうちひとつを表示して書き出し、という方法で何枚も図面を作ることが多いです。
   例えば「1990年」というグループ内に、当時の「道路」「土地利用」「施設」等を入れ、同じように「2000年」「2010年」というグループを作る、等です。
   このときに、すべてのグループにおいて「道路」サブレイヤを「土地利用」サブレイヤの上に移動したいとします。
   ところが、現状各グループが非表示だとレイヤの上下移動ができません。「1990年」を表示して、レイヤを移動して、「1990年」を非表示にして、「2000年」を表示して、…と面倒な作業を行わなければなりません。

   移動するレイヤは名前でわかるので、非表示のまま移動できればかかる時間が大幅に減るのに、と思っています。時間短縮のために、グループ内のサブレイヤが非表示でも順序を入れ替えられる機能をつけてほしいです。

9. Type in stroke width value instead of pull down menu in Character styles

   In Character Styles the stroke width only provides a pull down menu to choose from. It would be better if we could type in an exact value.
   The stroke width of texts needs to be very precise in my work, but the pull down menu is too limited to provide an accurate enough value. (The gaps between available options in the menu are too big.)

   When I create a new character style by selecting text and adding a new style, the style contains the correct stroke width. But when I need to adjust the width afterwards I can only pick from the pull down menu, and those values differ too much from the original value.

   The normal stroke palette works better - it allows to add a random value and unit.

   In Character Styles the stroke width only provides a pull down menu to choose from. It would be better if we could type in an exact value.

10. Add a new API to delete the swatch

    There is a problem with global gradient swatches, described at https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/908050/suggestions/44461230

    Illustrator applies changes to all copies of a gradient in a document when this gradient is changed via a script. It makes sense from a practical point of view, but is devastating for scripts in general.

    We can’t duplicate gradients with a script properly, like we can do with any other swatch, because when it's done, the gradient swatch get forcibly added to Swatches and then corrupt the art which uses them when deleted... and it does not break this global link anyway.

    At the moment we copy a gradient into the swatch, it will be associated with the first object. If we repaint the swatch to use it for another object, the first object will change its fill momentarily.     So we 'instance' gradients instead of 'duplicating' them.
    Creating a new gradient via script also creates a new swatch. Deleting either the new gradient or the new swatch also deletes the other. If the need is to get rid of the swatch but not the gradient, that doesn’t look to be possible via with the current APIs. Perhaps we need a new API to delete just the swatch and not the associated global (gradient, pattern etc.).

    Having this will allow us to keep gradient changes on one object from affecting other objects. To duplicate, a new gradient will be created and a copy of all gradient properties (type, number of stops, stops) will be performed, via existing app.activeDocument.gradients.add()
    Then we will be able to delete the swatch with a new API without crashing Illustrator.

12. Cursor and path feedback for Scissors

    We have to guess if we cut a path at all and if we hit the right path.
    No highlight (OK, using Smart Guides helps, but Smart Guides does nothing if you also have Snap to Grid enabled!), no cursor change.

    It’s 2022, right? Clouds, integrations, Stock sales directly in files... Scissors are still used with a blindfold, in a dark room, in a midnight.

13. Customizable splash screen

    Adobe marketing team decides what to display as splash screens. Sometimes the choice is great, and sometimes is not, much more often, to some of us.

    And since the Illustrator splash screen is what we see often, and it obviously influence our thought and mood, we’d like to have options to customize it.

    We can access the image ourselves, all of them are stored along with other version for different resolution screens at
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2022\Support Files\Contents\Windows\aiccsplash.png (on Windows)
    and packed in the application in Contents\Resources\ (on Macs),
    but this feels like a hack.

    What if we can have:
    A) a loading interface that takes an image provided and updates the resources
    B) an ongoing challenge, where every enthusiast can submit an artwork, using a hashtag or something similar, and the most upvoted gets picked for the next splashscreen
    C) an algorithm that picks an artwork randomly and automatically from the Behance top, each time Ai launches, with customization options, like Windows can do for its desktop wallpapers
    B) an option to turn off the image at all (some prefer CS3 style)

    Creativity for all, right?
    Modding is creativity.

14. More visual feedback for the Eyedropper

    The Eyedropper tool has several cursors (it’s almost impossible to find any explanations about at helpx.adobe.com), displaying different states:
    - a filled pipette for when you click,
    - a pipette with square below to indicate a screen sampling,
    - an additional T to indicate a text below,
    - a reverse filled pipette to indicate apply mode.
    However, some modes are missing.

    When you have smart guides disabled (for any reason), you can’t tell which object the tool will pick from, what attribute or will you miss completely by a pixel. The Shift mode is not covered too. So we need these:
    - a cursor to indicate Shift is held ('direct translation mode')
    - a way to indicate an art is under the cursor and not the blank canvas
    - a preview of colors picked and/or a hint to indicate which attributes will get picked if you click (and an option to disable it)

15. Font Height Options - "Cap Height" option by default

    The new font height option is great!

    However, working in the sign trade, everyone including our clients (who are mostly Architects) specify text by cap height so we are constantly changing the default Em size to cap height.

    It would save a lot of time and also eliminate any potential size issues with someone having the wrong option selected which could be very costly.

    Illustrator provides these already in its Swatch Libraries. Read to the comment inside to understand how to access these.

17. Preview of artboard before project starts

    Please allow for us to see a preview of the new project we are starting. When we set the dimensions or pick a preset dimensions, we can only see those grey outlined pictures. With this new feature, we would be able to see a "sample" of what our artboard is going to look like as a blank white canvas. It's basically a preview of the artboard before we officially start the project. Especially if we are typing in custom dimensions rather than choosing the set dimensions Adobe has already. Thank you guys :)

18. Double tap keyboard shortcut key to open dialogue box.

    This should speed up workflow for advanced users and help students learn tools & access dialogue windows faster.

    For example: ‘W’ brings up the blend tool.
    ‘W+W’ brings up the blend options dialogue

                ‘R’ brings up the rotate tool.
                ‘R+R’ brings up the rotate dialogue.
    

    I understand you can double click the blend toolbar icon to bring up the dialogue, or go to properties to adjust rotation. Why not double tap to stream line the entire process.

    As a lecturer it would help students immensely. Learners usually look for (hover over) the icon and click, then navigate the menu to find the dialogue. This way they would learn the shortcut and then simultaneously know how to access the dialogue.

    This should speed up workflow for advanced users and help students learn tools & access dialogue windows faster.

19. A tint percentage slider in swatch options (like InDesign)

    If a tint of a global colour has been added to the swatches the percentage cannot be adjusted. If you double click on the tint it brings up the swatch options panel for the colour the tint is based on, but there is no option to change the tint strength.

    Can it be the same as InDesign - when you double click on the tint there is a tint slider available in the swatch options panel?
