Remove quantization / rounding for the Curvature tool
Curvature tool is handy, but it places new points based on a hidden grid. The grid is screen-spaced, and it means the step of it stays the same on the screen, no matter what level of zoom we have.
Once a point is places and the mouse button / pen is released, we can move this point freely, with no rounding!
Why can’t we have this behavior for new points? Why limit new points in precision?5 votes -
Local Artboard Editing Mode
Illustrator already notionally works on one artboard at a time... the one that's zoomed to with Cmd-0, or pasted to with Cmd-V...
Perhaps there could be a mode switch, similar to the 'Draw Inside' mode where all operations are confined to objects on the current artboard. Useful for Cmd-A for example. This would override unlocked artboards of course!
This mode of operation is already familiar in InDesign where only current spread-object appear in the Layers.

Add buttons in a tool panel to directly remove fill or stroke without a need to focus one
LHS toolbox Stroke/Fill helpful feature
At the bottom of the LHS Toolbox, have an x inside the stroke coloured square to remove a stroke instead of going to colour swatch box.6 votes -

Portability or cross-device synchronization of Illustrator workspace organization.
I have a standard way of working and organizing windows, icons, and other tools in the Illustrator workspace, and I'd like these settings to be synchronized across my devices, given that I work on my laptop and desktop in different locations at different times of the day.

Knobs.
Just more knobs. There should be a knob next to every input that takes an angle value. The Scribble effect has one. The Gradient palette doesn't. The Transform palette has one but it could use another one along with a couple of text input boxes as an option to move an object a specified distance along a particular angle instead of moving it in X and Y. The angle value in the transform section of Properties doesn't have a knob. Scatter brush options have two horizontal sliders and no knobs. Put a knob next to each of those sliders.

Correct View > Snap to Grid shortcut from Cmd/Ctrl+" to proper Cmd/Ctrl+'
My request is a bit nerdy, but hey! I have been using Illustrator for 'ages' and one of the shortcuts is simply not correct. I always think it's cute, in a way, but still.
The shortcut to show or hide the grid is listed as Ctrl + "
This is impossible to achieve since you need the 'Shift' key to type the double quotation marks :)
So, I think it should be Ctrl + ' .
The shortcut to snap to the grid is fun in this light; it's Ctrl + Shift + "

Add an option to measure gaps between objects in Objects on Path by their bounds, not between centers
Objects on Path needs more options and in its current setup is very limited in its usefulness. This tool feels like it's still in beta. Whilst it's good at doing the one thing it's designed to do, it's missing a lot of useful capabilities.
If the objects are different sizes it doesn't space them evenly. Spacing currently is determined only by the center points of the objects rather than its bounding box. At least make it an option.

Improving Processing Performance for Large ESP Format Images
I am a scientific researcher who frequently uses this software to process images in ESP format. Overall, the software performs very well, but it becomes noticeably sluggish when handling scatter plots with a large number of data points, such as EPR spectra and fluorescence lifetime plots. Based on my experience, this may be due to limited compatibility in processing such datasets, as my Mac computer has 32 GB of RAM, which should be sufficient. I hope this issue can be addressed and optimized soon. Thank you very much!

Bring in PDF's without changing the formatting
PDF's, sometimes, when brought in, NOT as an image, but embedded, changes font style widths, etc. This was another issue for me, with a client who built their file in ID and saved as a PDF and I brought it in and embedded it. I did not catch it, but it's clearly changed. I have the font, so that was not an issue, it just change the "BOLD" to "REGULAR". Picture attached shows the "original" PDF as a pic on the right. I have it at 50% opacity as I was comparing.

Artboard Properties as Menu Commands
Add "Maintain Width and Height Proportions" to Menu Commands so that it can be assigned a shortcut. Other artboard features like "Move artwork with Artboard" and "Scale artwork with Artboard" would also benefit from this, I lose a lot of time checking and unchecking these boxes.

Libraries Keep Freezing when I open a new document
I keep our company swatch colours in the adobe libraries but over the last two months the libraries would freeze where I could scroll through them. I would need to quite illustrator and reopen them to access them again.

Font Family field (and others) in Character panel (and others) doesn’t get resized
If we dock Character panel together with a panel that can be resized (like Layers), we get the ability to resize both.
Sound useful if you need to long font names... but this is the filed that doesn’t get resized.I don’t really object against the layout of the panel (although it’d benefit from getting reshuffled, adaptive layouts is not a new thing in UI), but perhaps Ai should resize fields at least?

Custom marquee shapes for Direct Selection tool like circle, star, rectangle, etc.
The Direct Selection tool would follow the logic of creating an individual shape. A marquee that can be scaled, moved and also rotated live would be a awesome feature.

Local saves with Version control
We need an option to create a project file that cannot be saved over. The reason for this is that when working with a client who has many options, we sometimes need to step back in time or recover older versions from unexpected changes.
Similar to an Illustrator template file (.ait), we could have a format like .aiv or .aivi. This way, when I save flyer.aiv, every save will generate a backup file flyer-250204817.ai next to the current file.

SDK access to Perspective grid
Please add SDK interface for plugins to get and set values in the perspective grid, and to add and move art on the perspective grid. I want to extend the functionality of the perspective grid for technical illustrators.

Align is immune to Constrain Angle
If we change Constrain Angle in Preferences general, our grid gets rotated, all shapes get create as rotated...

Add a slider to the History panel to quickly review the states of the document
If we want to go back to a certain history state of the current document , we can scroll the History panel and click each step item, guessing the time, judging by the names of these, the scrollbar position (limited by the capped amount of steps)...
It’s a guesswork in most cases, since some steps still have generic names (like always 'Move' and not 'Move Point', 'Move Handle', 'Move Segment', 'Move Path', 'Move Group'...)Can I just grab a slider and scrub with it, seeing all the previous states rendered on canvas — and fast?
