Embedded images are lost when saving as a PDF

When I save a .ai file as a .pdf, many of the embedded .psd images are missing when I open the PDF in Acrobat. I have reinstalled Illustrator (2019) and Acrobat (Pro DC), but the problem persists. I have tried saving using different pdf formats, but the images are still missing in the PDF. If, however, I open the PDF in Illustrator, the images reappear. Thoughts?

    I have encountered the same problem multiple times. Is there already a solution available?

    I have also noticed when converting large .psd images to embedded images, they suddenly disappear completely. I too am using the latest Illustrator CC version. Any ideas on how to fix this? I think it's definitely a bug.
