An error occurred while saving the comment Not sure I understand this. Perhaps I am not that deep familiar with the workflow you describe... can you please explain this in details?

An error occurred while saving the comment However, if you think we should be able to choose if we want compound paths to get created when possible, instead of groups, please vote here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/33627964-make-option-to-generate-compound-paths-instead-of
An error occurred while saving the comment I’ve made a short GIF demonstrating the workaround.
If you just hit Unite for a group (where some objects are not overlapping), Ai creates a group.
However, if you hold Opt/Alt and then click Unite, Illustrator creates a live Compound Shape first. And if you then click Expand — voila, the result is not a group, but a compound path.An error occurred while saving the comment I might be wrong but it always was like this. If you want to create compound path, 'Make compound path' or use Alt+Unite then Expand.

An error occurred while saving the comment I see what you mean. Indeed, InDesign does snap tits panel to the area which has the cursor, while Illustrator does this only when a single text area is selected. Not very convenient to jump from these two modes (especially when there is no quick way to start editing a text with a hotkey: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/38242195 — although even with it it won’t be solved).
'Ideally' — agree :) but in a practical world we have to specify these difference directly, one by one.
An error occurred while saving the comment John, it seems like it works as we expect of it in the latest versions, and the Tabs now get positioned correctly over one column from many, when the Magnet button is clicked. Can you confirm this, plese?

An error occurred while saving the comment True! To be fair, Ai never was able to do that. If the shift is large enough for the click to be below the descender line, Ai does not allow to move by the anchor anymore.
A stupid workaround you can use for now is to add a space in the end and set the shift for it to zero. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Sorry, it’s not chat clear from the screenshot what is wrong.
The selected shape is not a rectangle anymore, but a path, therefore Transform panel won’t display any shape properties. Shape properties get displayed in this section only when you deal with actual rectangles, ellipses, polygons.
Is this what you mean? -

An error occurred while saving the comment At the moment it’s not possible to assign materials to different subsurfaces of the 3D objects, other than eyeballing decals without precise controls over the positioning and scale. When objects with modern 3D get expanded, the result now is either a raster image, or an uneditable triangular mesh grid, of a set of unfilled paths.
The current limited workaround to this is to use the Effect > 3D and Materials > 3D (Classic) instead. These effects produce vector shapes on expanding and allow to map symbols with fitting options.AdminEgor Chistyakov (Admin, Adobe Illustrator) supported this idea · -

An error occurred while saving the comment I can confirm it behaves the very same way you described in the file.
Thank you so much for the test and the report. Let’s see if the team can deduce anything from it.An error occurred while saving the comment Can’t confirm it.
Can you please provide a test file that does demonstrate this issue for you? -

An error occurred while saving the comment I tried to replicate this.
When I open the Place dialog, the Link option is indeed disabled and inactive (unlike Replace, which can be toggle form the get go).
When I paste the name of the file and hit Place button, Ai then verifies the name makes sense and the Link option becomes active, and now can be enabled.
I agree it feels excessive and don’t really see a reason behind disabling some option with no valid name provided...However, while it’s definitely a problem, the real problem is relinking multiple images at once.
There is a general feature request about it:
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34174264The solution you can use at the moment is this script:
https://github.com/dumbm1/ai_scripts/blob/master/jsx/fast_relink.jsx
Originally designed to quickly replace all selected images with one file, it can be also used on a single selected image.
Once the script is placed into a dedicated Scripts folder i Illustrator folder (and relaunched), you can create an action, record using this script from the File > Scripts, and then assign a hotkey to the script. Please try it and reply back, if it’s still a problem you face. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Yeah, this is what I am aware off, and that’s why I asked you to try it and review the results...
Export for Screens uses a completely different approach to rasterizing the artwork. It’s MUCH faster, but it doesn’t work as great as the legacy method.
If this gets fixed, what else makes you unhappy with the method?
See, there are several reports about bad rasterization Export for Screen has:
1. https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/38987995
2. http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/33851182
3. http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/34636129
and more.
Some of them are about the quality problems only for JPEGs, others are general requests about making the rasterization for the Export for Screens on par with the Save for Web.
What other things you find better in S4W method, other than quality issues? An error occurred while saving the comment Isabelle, have you tried Export for Screens? It allows to export chosen artboards at once, and to setup up a naming convention (somewhat).
If you did try it, please describe why you still prefer using Save for Web for exporting images still? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Fair...
An easy workaround I use is switching to Outline mode, which shows me the text unwarped. Surely, in this mode I can’t see how it befriend the design in general, but I learned to toggle it back and forth to make sure they do. -

The team confirms the bug exists, can replicate it, and is going to fix the problem. Thank you all for the heads up.
An error occurred while saving the comment Jordan, which version are you using?
AdminEgor Chistyakov (Admin, Adobe Illustrator) supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Wil, do you refer to the Beta version?
Does this command work if you access it via the menu, File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy)? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Very strange. Why would Ai try to launch a script for InDesign?
Just as a workaround idea: what happens if you go to this folder and temporarily move this file someplace else? Will Ai launch without problems? -

Please get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.

An error occurred while saving the comment Interesting...
I can’t think of a bulletproof method of preventing this. A message on save is an option, yep... but it’d be hard to tell if having stuff on canvas outside of the artboard is intentional or not. Still better than nothing.
As a workaround I advise to use Save a Copy method instead of Save As, in cases when you wish to continue to make changes into the original. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Usama, I agree on the appearance (and that’s one of main reason Outlines exist — to ignore appearance), but why can’t you select paths behind other paths? You mean by clicking their fills, not the outlines? Can you please elaborate on this, give some examples?

Very true. Same applies for any other preset list Ai has, really...
We need custom default documents sizes, custom default strokes, custom default scale in the upcoming Dimension tool’s options, custom default font/leading/baseline shift sizes...
Each of this should not only allow to add your own presets, but also remove those you don’t need.
And this also applies to hiding menu items (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/31623847-customize-illustrator-menu) — something Photoshop already has.
