    Hello,

We have started working on the tech that allows us to enable the following:

    • Ability to convert the outlined/expanded text back to live text.
    • Ability to lock objects to a character/glyph of a live text, allowing users to change the text (properties) while the object stays locked into the character.

As we work through the complexities of handling different font families, font size, and other font properties, we would love to meet with you and share our thinking around it and understand :

    • Your use cases and workflows that this feature will help you with.
    • What is most essential for you.
    • The workarounds that you currently use to achieve this.

If you are interested, please pick a time slot that works for you using this link. https://calendly.com/meetai/60min?month=2023-01

    Hi Everyone,

This functionality is available in our latest release build – 27.6.1.

The new functionality allows searching layers by name using the searchbar in the layers panel. The users can also apply filters based on layer properties (locked, hidden etc) or objects properties (effects, text etc.). This will help to quickly find layers/objects for large documents (having multiple layers).

Read more about this - https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/whats-new/2023-5.html#search-and-filter

Thank you for all the feedback.

The most recent version finally has the Object > Distribute menu added.

Now both Align and Distribute commands can be accessed via menu and have assigned keyboards shortcuts to them.

The order of the commands though seemingly matches the one the panel has: horizontal first for Align and vertical first for Distribute. If you find this odd and want to change it — vote here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/45855823-sync-the-order-of-align-and-distribute-menu-comman

Also, Align To and Distribute Spacing commands are still missing in top menus, so please keep voting here to make them added too.

As you probably know, Illustrator today allows to change this behavior with a dedicated option in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display section.

However, it’s not that accessible, especially when you are already move and copy your artboards.

If you wish this option to be more exposed, consider upvoting this request: Display Move Locked and Hidden Artwork with Artboard option in Control panel and Properties while using Artboard tool / mode

The latest Beta 28.8.0.37 now has this function back.

You can enable the mode using a button in Control Panel or in Properties, with the Artboard tool picked.

The option automatically enables Scale Strokes & Effects option temporarily.

As always, you can hold Shift to resize proportionally.

Please test it and comment back!

Yes. The ability to design in scale would definitely be useful. I use the Hot Door CADTools plugin to accomplish that, but there are drawbacks.

I design a lot of really large signage that is often beyond the size of the available canvas. I can’t currently design a 30’ or even 60’ sign at full scale. So a number of additional steps for the workflow have to be implemented.

I often export directly to a vendor who will directly manufacture from my files. Like a CnC router for instance. To require to vendor to re-scale my artwork before inputing into their software invites chances for errors to occur. I could design in AutoCAD or something, but i prefer Illustrator, and the files tend to work better with manufacturers.
