Adobe Illustrator's Multithreading Journey Begins!
Dear Illustrator Community,
I'm thrilled to announce that we've embarked on an exciting journey to bring multithreading capabilities to Adobe Illustrator. This significant undertaking will enhance performance and responsiveness across various aspects of the application.
While this is a complex process that will take some time to fully implement, I wanted to share our progress so far.
Our Approach
We've strategically begun by focusing on the most computationally intensive operations—those that typically take more time and block the main thread, resulting in slower response times while you work. By moving these operations to separate threads, we aim to significantly improve your overall experience with Illustrator.
It's important to note that you may see more noticeable impact in some areas than others initially. However, we want to assure you that this is just the beginning, and we will continue this journey to bring improvements across…

With the amount they bring in every month they need to bite the bullet and stop kicking the can down the road
An error occurred while saving the comment Jeron Kuxhausen commented@Jayse Fair enough guess we're all just frustrated that we're having to find work arounds to get work done instead of Adobe fixing fundamental issues. Guess I might see how I can do some work in XD lol
An error occurred while saving the comment Jeron Kuxhausen commented@Jayse That doesn't really shine light on the core issue. I get that XD is replacing UI/UX work in Illustrator but explain to me how XD is replacing things in industries like Screen Printing, Large Format, and various others? XD is a specialized app that Adobe has and is not what I would use to ever create something like a shirt design or a poster. The software is not dead, though it may be dying due to people moving to other software, and the fact still stands that they need to fix core performance. I love that companies like Affinity are putting pressure on Adobe and making some great software. Also adobe bought Figma so I imagine that will be absorbed into XD.
Also I have nothing against a Tablet version but if I have a powerful computer then there should be no reason that I shouldn't be able run a more powerful version of the app on it so that it takes advantage of the hardware. The issue is that multi-core computers have been around for decades so this should not still be "Under Review"
An error occurred while saving the comment Jeron Kuxhausen commentedI find it interesting that they continue to add 3D support and features but won't fix the core performance of the program. 3D is going to require more CPU and not less so seems like you're just shooting yourself in the foot.
An error occurred while saving the comment Jeron Kuxhausen commentedHonestly I feel like this should of happened awhile ago when multicore computers started coming out. It's a little frustrating when I'm sitting waiting for files to save and I can see that 90% of my computer's power is sitting idle and that only one core is being utilized. Sooo Much wasted time!

Dear Users,
We have launched this feature in the latest release of Illustrator, 24.2. I request you to try out this feature and give us your feedback.
Thanks,
SanjitAn error occurred while saving the comment Jeron Kuxhausen commentedYou know instead of forcing to start with a canvas above a certain size you should give an option to change the scale in an existing and new documents. Would make this much easier to access

The team is exploring the ways to increase the limit.
An error occurred while saving the comment Jeron Kuxhausen commentedThis restriction can sometimes be tied to the font and not so much Illustrator. To circumvent this I usually keep an editable version of the text off the artboard and then outline a second version so that I can scale it to the size needed. This way you have editable text if you ever need it again and scaled to the size you need.

You can toggle this with View > Hide / Show Artboards (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + H) to hide borders for artboards.
Also you can apply View > Show / Hide Transparency Grid (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + D) to view the transparency checkerboard.
An error occurred while saving the comment Jeron Kuxhausen commentedIf you press Cmd+Shift+H or Ctrl+Shift+H on Windows then you can hide all the artboards. You can then press it again to show artboards.

Hi Everyone,
This functionality is available in our latest release build – 27.6.1.
The new functionality allows searching layers by name using the searchbar in the layers panel. The users can also apply filters based on layer properties (locked, hidden etc) or objects properties (effects, text etc.). This will help to quickly find layers/objects for large documents (having multiple layers).
Read more about this - https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/whats-new/2023-5.html#search-and-filter
Thank you for all the feedback.

An error occurred while saving the comment Jeron Kuxhausen commentedNow that we have the ability to have a larger canvas which is great I'm running into the issue of not being able to adjust the canvas size of an already created document.
A couple of scenarios.
1. I have an old scaled document that I'm working on in 1/10 scale but now that I have to make changes to the design would like to adjust up to 100% so that is easier to communicate sizes when sending out.2. I start a document that falls within the smaller canvas size but then when I add more artboards or need to add an element that falls outside of the smaller canvas size it now won't let me or doesn't adjust so I have to start a new document and move everything over just to have the larger canvas size.
It would be great to have the ability to adjust the canvas size in like "Document Info" or if it just automatically adjusted when you exceeded the bounds.

The most recent version finally has the Object > Distribute menu added.
Now both Align and Distribute commands can be accessed via menu and have assigned keyboards shortcuts to them.
The order of the commands though seemingly matches the one the panel has: horizontal first for Align and vertical first for Distribute. If you find this odd and want to change it — vote here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/45855823-sync-the-order-of-align-and-distribute-menu-comman
Also, Align To and Distribute Spacing commands are still missing in top menus, so please keep voting here to make them added too.

Hi Everyone,
This functionality is available in our latest release build – 27.6.1.
Color Model selection for JPG is available in Export For Screens -> Advanced settings. Illustrator will allow you to choose - RGB, CMYK or Grayscale color model.
What's New in the release - https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/whats-new.html
Thank you for all the feedback.
An error occurred while saving the comment Jeron Kuxhausen commentedI can say that as a print shop I'll often need to export multiple artboards that will then have to be added into one print file so adding CMYK to the "Export for Screens" would be awesome! Obviously we're hoping that you'll extend it beyond just exporting for screens.

Hi Everyone,
All the effect checkboxes have now been set to ON by default, and are sticky (meaning that if you disable preview, on next launch of Illustrator preview will remain disabled). This functionality now is available in our latest release build – 24.1.1 for Win and 24.1 for Mac which is available worldwide now.

Just a general status update. We are currently and will continuously improve SVG import support in Adobe Illustrator. We are currently working on solving the issues mentioned in this report. Please feel free to open new bug reports here on uservoice if you are experiencing additional/untracked issues.

Oh Yeah I totally agree with you it's annoying seeing all these updates with new features when the core program is still slow.
