Thanks Egor, of course I know that Illustrator will not know what my intentions are. :-)
But 85% of the cases I want to change whats already applied.

    I support your request though!

The latest Beta build 29.0.0.9 now allows us to create a gradient from selected swatches, using two ways:

    1. Select swatches you need (use Cmd/Ctrl to select several) and drag-n-drop them onto the gradient strip in Gradient panel.
    2. Select swatches you need and choose the new 'Gradient from Swatches Selection' command from the Swatches panel’s flyout menu.

In both cases new gradient stops will be spread uniformly, using the current order of swatches in the panel (not the order of selection).

If you have artwork selected in the document while doing this, the gradient will be automatically applied to it.

Please try the feature and comment back.

The most recent version finally has the Object > Distribute menu added.

Now both Align and Distribute commands can be accessed via menu and have assigned keyboards shortcuts to them.

The order of the commands though seemingly matches the one the panel has: horizontal first for Align and vertical first for Distribute. If you find this odd and want to change it — vote here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/45855823-sync-the-order-of-align-and-distribute-menu-comman

Also, Align To and Distribute Spacing commands are still missing in top menus, so please keep voting here to make them added too.

Ok, Egor, here is a screenshot of what I mean. The point type text jumps to the left when orientation is changed from left aligned to centered. I do not understand this behaviour. Even with point type. What point is kept? In my opinion everything jumps. No? I do not get it. Is there any case where this behaviour is of any use?

I do understand that I can switch to area type. So I have to do another extra click as always with illustrator, the program of extra clicks and changing tools … :-)

And yes, I use the Astute Graphics tools a lot. The only way that makes working with vectors bearable in illustrator … but that is another post (take deleting points on a path alone).

We pay a lot for the CC programs and they should do everything to make working with them easier and smooth. But many many things are overly complicated, take more clicks then necessary or force us to change tools when alternatives would be possible. That is what bugs me working with them on a daily basis.

When I change the text orientation from say left aligned (see screenshot) to centered the whole box (and not only the text within the box) will jump to a different position. I. e. the left margin of the left aligned textbox. WHY? This is very annoying behaviour and does not make any sense, does it? What is the idea behind it?

    Hi,

is there any feedback on this post FROM 3 YEARS AGO, Adobe?
Would it be please, please, please, possible to have a last the OPTION to number artboards as described?
(Or get an answer after all that time)

For many years I wish AI sorted the artboards by their position in the document but not by their time of creation. When moving artboards around for creating an presentation (which I would like to export later by maintaining the sequence I see on the canvas) it would be so much more comfortable when the numbering of the artboard would change accordingly. For example if I prepare a presentation with multiple artboards and decide to move the most right artboard of the bottom row to the very upper left position I wish this artboard would be numbered as artboard #1 and all the other artboards would change their number accordingly. Or at least I would like to have the option to switch numbering say from "Chronological" to "By Position". So top left is #1 and bottom right is the last number.

As my English is not perfect, I hope I made myself clear. Do you need an illustration to get the idea?

    Thanks
    Juergen

This goes back to a post from another user 11(!) years ago. He then wrote:
    **************
I'm currently working on a project which involves over 16 artboards in the same document, though when i want to change the order of the artboards [for saving as a PDF] i have to move all my artboards content to new artboard, etc.etc.
This is really annoying, especially when i want to insert a new artboard between some excisting ones.

So is it possible to somehow change the order of the artboards, or they numbers [basically the same]?
    **************

And still, 11 years later there is no answer to this. Artboards only are numbered in CHRONICAL order (i.e the TIME when I created the artboards. Why???) So when you move the artboard order for saving (as described) to PDF only the CHRONICAL order is considered. Why is there no way to SWITCH to an order where the ACTUAL ORDER ON MY CANVAS is taken into account? PLEASEEEEEEEEE!!!

(Yes, I know I can change the artboard numbering manually in the artboard palette but have you ever changed a huge document that way? And no, this is not a job that would be better done in InDesign as a have a lot of vector-data that need to be handled in illustrator.)

    Jürgen, Berlin
