  1. I want to make a suggestion, it might be profitable for Adobe. (IDK where to post it, but like a feedback)

Copy of what I posted here https://forums.adobe.com/message/10555191

(Idk where to post this since I kinda tried to find where I can suggest such a thing for multiple platforms)

1st of all, big fan of illustrator, and quite loved it when I used it for arts that captivated even my teachers
Examples of what I did on my free time:
Vector Artwork - Group 57 CyberCap by thunder-of-light on DeviantArt (made 2 head-shots per day, and I am the only one with colored eyes)
Ben Franklin taking a selfie by thunder-of-light on DeviantArt

Take note I really, REALLY hate piracy (I…

  2. Add Convert to normal map filter / effect

As It's already existing in Photoshop, and as there are some Photoshop filters applicable in Illustrator, I was wondering if we can get the "convert to Normal Map" filter directly in Illustrator.

It may be useful and more efficient than using AI + PS to generate some Normal maps based on vector graphics.

    Many Thanks

  3. flip horizontal and flip vertical from contextual menu

Please add "flip vertical" and "flip horizontal" to the "Transform..." contextual menu pop-up in Illustrator. We have this function in Animate already. It would improve workflow and is something that should be relatively easy to program. Thank you for all your hard work improving Illustrator.

  4. Allow to align pins in the puppet warp tool with each other

In the process of creating brushes from existing artwork, the puppet warp tool is very helpful. But currently, I have to manually align the "spine" of an object and make use of the ruler. See attached.

Unless of course, I am missing a step? I tried the align tool and it doesn't work for the pins for me. Would love if it did.

  5. It would be helpful if you had the option to cancel a quit.

It would be helpful to have a cancel button for when you quit the program. I constantly hit Command Q instead of Command W and I have no option to save my work before it quits. All I can do is clear the clipboard.

  6. File preview in home screen limited to artboard

In the home screen previews of the most recent files are available, but the preview includes all objects in the document, regardless of the artboard(s), so that the preview does not necessarily reflect the artwork very well.

(I routinely include loads of stuff outside the edge of the artboard, copies of elements I’m working on, template objects, etc. Which are part of my work process, but are just noise when it shows up on my preview.)

I therefore suggest that the preview only includes objects (or parts of objects) within the artboard(s).

  7. Easy setting of layer's opacity and 'Target Selected'

Some users still find confusing setting opacity to whole layer.
When they change opacity value in Transparency palette with no art selected, it does nothing or (if 'New Art has Basic Appearance' is unticked in Appearance palette options) applied to new objects.

The way transparency is set for a layer in AI is not that obvious, compared to Photoshop's way, and require from user knowledge of working with appearance.

    I propose this:
    1. Make a shortcut for 'Target Current Layer' command, which is not anywhere now (or even 'Target Selected', which will target current layer, if nothing is selected)
    2.…

  8. Procedural textures for fills, like crosshatch, stripes, etc.

It would be nice if there was a procedural texture fill available. Something like CorelDRAW has, but completely procedural so that file size doesn't bloat. The more parameters the better so we could create many varying textures/colors/patterns/etc.

  9. Locked objects Show a "lock" icon Like InDesign

A great feature to have in Illustrator is to unlock the locked object by clicking on the Lock icon next to the object. its hard to tell which object is locked except by going to object -> unlock All, or Check the Layers Panel. Adobe InDesign has this feature for years.

  11. Suppress "Do you want Illustrator to save changes the in xyz.ai before closing" dialogue

Suppress the "Do you want Illustrator to save changes the in xyz.ai before closing" dialogue (or indeed all such questions). If I want to save it first I'll save it first. Please, answering this 'helpful'(stupid) dialogue box question a million times a year is killing me! I'll take my chances that I lose some work one day.

  12. Chromebook / ChromeOS compatibility

My school is considering purchasing a laser cutter/engraver to be housed in the Library for all students to use, and I understand that we will also need to purchase software such as Adobe Illustrator. The problem is that many of our students use Chromebooks, which really don't have a hard drive. We're not in favor of just having 1 or 2 Windows machines sitting by the cutter/engraver, mostly because that limits usage. Is there any other option? Does Adobe offer a Chromebook-compatible software? Or, is there any way that a student could design something in another program, then import it…

  13. Illustrator or Photoshop for digital drawing??

I am a digital artist. I didn't see a thread about difference between this two software , and it seemed like no one has given their impressions on this oftware so I wanted to put together something quick to kickstart a discussion or something.

Illustrator is a vector based application and Photoshop is an image editor. That means Photoshop works with pixels and Illustrator does not. Illustrator drawings can be scaled and printed at any size without loss of image quality. The lines are very clean and sharp, which is great for logo design and illustration. Photoshop drawings can be…

  14. crashed and erased my project file? from two hard drives?

Just letting you know I just updated AI and it just crashed and the project file I was working on (that I had saved to two separate external hard drives) is nowhere to be found now, it didn't show up in my recent files and now I have searched where it was saved on both hard drives and it is completely gone. Awesome. So I guess my request is that if illustrator crashes make it to where it at least doesn't delete the project completely, and autosave backup would be nice but I'd really rather not have to start projects…

  15. More Export options

It would be awesome if the export formats had a couple more custom/individual settings like:

    • Active (checkbox)
    • Subfolder Name
    • Prefix (like the Suffix) and maybe a couple more under a setting panel for the one format like Lowercase etc :)

The CC 2019 update Activate Adobe Font function is brilliant, but it would be even better if it did the same for fonts on my own computer too

  19. Art brushes different weight value

    Well, this is complex one.

As you know, a lot of people live in metric world.
It means they use 'cm-mm' instead of 'inches-points'.
I, for example, have all three major units set to millimeters — general, stroke and type.

But each time I apply brush to anything, it gets weight '0,353 mm'.
Yes, it is 1 point. And every time I need to scale my brush twice as normal, I have to type in '*2' in the end of 'Weight' field instead of just typing 2.

Worse, when I don't remember what weight it has now, but need to…

  20. Soft selection (Selection drop off)

This already exists in many 3D applications (Maya, 3D Max, and C4d, for sure) and it's often treated, not as a separate tool, but as a setting in the regular selection tools. The idea is that you can set an gradient influence area where the points directly selected are affected 100% by transform changes, while everything else is affected by the changes but adjusted to the alpha percentage of the gradient at that point's initial location. I know that sounds like a mouthful, but it's very similar to how the mesh warp works (minus the having to convert anything and…
